Agree very much with Ron Williams and Scott Devers as styles that are not to be imitated (but it certainly worked for them).

I believe that the greatest bowler with the worst form of all time (and many people think he may be the best of all time) is Don Carter.

Here's a clip of him:

I was actually going to say that a couple of pages back but was afraid I'd get jumped for it. I tend to think of him as one of the most accurate bowlers I've ever seen, which is good for him because I can't see how he ever got anything on the ball with that wrist/elbow combination.

easy...Roger Bowker. However, the guy has titles and has a ton of regional titles.

I agree lane 1 he was too herky jerky at his release.  It made it hard to watch

Learn looked like Sonic the Hedgehog in his first few steps then he was all arms and explosion in the last step. Able to repeat it, but an odd person to watch.

Webb threw it good. Not perfect, but far from the worst. Soper, Shafer, and Trabers fall into the stiff leg and chuck school of thought.

So the question becomes. Which is more important to you, a good armswing, good balance, good timing???

Dave Traber may be the worst combination---the locked hand on follow-through, the stiff legged, end over end. Then he opens his mouth on TV shows and says "You gotta deliver" and yet he never does. Worst form with a big mouth.

Shafer has a big mouth, but I personally feel like he does alot with very little. I also get the sense that while he may be likeable on tour (amongst players), I feel like if he could get more crowd support, maybe he wouldnt feel like he was bowling against the lanes, his opponent, and the crowd. Just get the sense he always is trying to shut someone up in the crowd or trying to beat Norm Duke or something. Just my 2 cents.

I personally love David Traber's game. I love his commanding, forceful release. His far outside line is dominating and has some of the loudest strikes I've ever heard.  His brother Dale though, I do not care for his backswing and follow through. He has regional titles though..a lot of them.

And if you think Ryan Shafer's game is crazy now you should see him pre resin in the late 80's and early 90's. He used to rip the holes out of the ball...kind of like when Bob Learn would crank it up deep inside.

Durbin(pretty much straight up delivery), Roth(manhandles the ball), Amletto (see Roth, but now contemporary), Mark Baker, Traber & maybe Mazza for a strange lefty. Now Steve cook was a good form for a power lefty, Aulby & Anthony with classic lefty styles & PBIII for the best combination of power & style
kind of answered 2 threads in 1...
