ultimate scoring championship
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:34:21 PM »
the tqr for this weeks tournament has been completed and true to form the scores were very high. it's been described as the highest scoring pattern the pba has used in some time. despite this, two players who are always being put up on a pedestal, rudy kasimakis and tim mack, didn't even come close in making the cut.

Lots of local Michigan stars didn't fare too well either...I wonder how the pattern played?

I was surprised by the names I saw who averaged around 210 and below. I imagine many good bowlers might have found it hard to cope with a league-type oil pattern. They're just not used to it.

i was shocked when i saw tim mack averaging 190

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

This doesnt surprise me actually. THS situations lend themselves to allow you to miss by alot and play shots where when you miss by alot, you can get away with it. Alot of times, they lend themselves to play 2-direction lines. Whereas all the patterns the PBA bowl on lend them to rolling off the spot. That still doesnt explain Mack and Rudy struggling---but it doesnt surprise me that some people will be down a bit. Another thing that wouldnt surprise me---if some people mail this tourney in. I know it counts for points, but why beat yourself up mentally for this tournament---just to turn around and bowl something else the next week that was more challenging.

WRJ mentioned it was a modified house shot.  May be easier but not a true house shot.

Things that make me laugh:

51  Walter Ray Williams Jr.  Ocala, Fla.   7   1491  +91  213.00

Two of the greatest can't score on an "easy" pattern.

See, that's what I feel the point of this tournament is about, not just showing how inflated averages can get but who is the most consistent.  I am really looking forward to the Plastic Ball Championship!

defintly some suprises there, especially rhino page not bowling well when it looks like the other lefties did well and jeff carter struggling a bit when I thought he may really excel on this.  I will be interested to read his thoughts on the shot

Not too surprising when you think what Jeff Carter has gone through while trying to make a living in the PBA. The skills needed to score well on a house pattern (even a PBA-modified one) vary incredibly from the skills needed to score well in the PBA. People change their entire games to focus on the PBA patterns. While I'd like Jeff to do well in every event (seems to be a very likable guy), maybe his house wall pattern skills are not as good as they once were, but his PBA pattern skills have increased proportionately.

That's my guess.

I remember reading somewhere that the house Carter bowled that season in was wood with guardian? Is that right? Taylor is different, and while easier than a tour shot, this isn't a TRUE wall. You have can have ten boards at the arrows but if you can't carry what does it matter? Tim Mack averaged 190 this week! WTF!!!!!

Looking forward to his report this week.
