Title: ultimate scoring championship
Post by: DON DRAPER on November 09, 2008, 12:34:21 PM
the tqr for this weeks tournament has been completed and true to form the scores were very high. it's been described as the highest scoring pattern the pba has used in some time. despite this, two players who are always being put up on a pedestal, rudy kasimakis and tim mack, didn't even come close in making the cut.

Lots of local Michigan stars didn't fare too well either...I wonder how the pattern played?

I was surprised by the names I saw who averaged around 210 and below. I imagine many good bowlers might have found it hard to cope with a league-type oil pattern. They're just not used to it.

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

This doesnt surprise me actually. THS situations lend themselves to allow you to miss by alot and play shots where when you miss by alot, you can get away with it. Alot of times, they lend themselves to play 2-direction lines. Whereas all the patterns the PBA bowl on lend them to rolling off the spot. That still doesnt explain Mack and Rudy struggling---but it doesnt surprise me that some people will be down a bit. Another thing that wouldnt surprise me---if some people mail this tourney in. I know it counts for points, but why beat yourself up mentally for this tournament---just to turn around and bowl something else the next week that was more challenging.

See, that's what I feel the point of this tournament is about, not just showing how inflated averages can get but who is the most consistent.  I am really looking forward to the Plastic Ball Championship!

defintly some suprises there, especially rhino page not bowling well when it looks like the other lefties did well and jeff carter struggling a bit when I thought he may really excel on this.  I will be interested to read his thoughts on the shot

Not too surprising when you think what Jeff Carter has gone through while trying to make a living in the PBA. The skills needed to score well on a house pattern (even a PBA-modified one) vary incredibly from the skills needed to score well in the PBA. People change their entire games to focus on the PBA patterns. While I'd like Jeff to do well in every event (seems to be a very likable guy), maybe his house wall pattern skills are not as good as they once were, but his PBA pattern skills have increased proportionately.

That's my guess.

I remember reading somewhere that the house Carter bowled that season in was wood with guardian? Is that right? Taylor is different, and while easier than a tour shot, this isn't a TRUE wall. You have can have ten boards at the arrows but if you can't carry what does it matter? Tim Mack averaged 190 this week! WTF!!!!!

Looking forward to his report this week.

So much for WRW not being able to score, 252 average for the 2nd block.  Considering he just won a tourny the day before, had to drive over to Taylor, etc...  He probably just sleep bowled the first block

The problem with a tournament like this is that, while the pattern is described as cake, it becomes a carry contest...and if you aren't carrying, you start pressing, trying to force something to happen- and then you get the fun stuff like blower 7-10's or worse, a slight mishap with four through the face.

A couple of single pin spares, a nasty split or two and all of a sudden, you are sucking hind tit behind the rest of the field...kinda like league night can be for some people.

That tournament was held on Cheetah, in that house it was an easy shot. That's a 263 average for those that don't want to do the math.

You can't summarize a bowler's talent level or ability to score - good, bad, or otherwise - on any condition based on one block of scores.

I'm sorry, but I really hate it when I read stupid posts like this.  I'm not saying this guy is right or wrong, but just because he's not a PBA member does not mean he doesn't have a right to an opinion.  Think about it.  Based on your logic, every member of the sports media would have to be a former player!  How stupid is that?  Do you think Chris Berman has a right to an opinion on the NFL?  I do, and I'm pretty sure he's not a former NFL player.

Shotmaking wasn't an issue this week, so of course the best shotmakers(WRW, Barnes) aren't dominating like normal. Their special talent meant nothing this week.

Is there some sort of mandated national house shot where every house plays deep inside? Really?
Title: Re: ultimate scoring championship
Post by: Track_Fanatic on November 11, 2008, 09:12:59 PM
I like your post Rambo.  It fits somewhat.  I will agree partially to that statement.  However, even on their modified house shot, I really don't think it was throw it right or throw it left and watch it come back, you still need to execute.  All bowlers have bad blocks.  Lets see, PB III averaged like what, 253+ up until the round of 8 then only averaged like 218 in the round of 8.  The PBA does have integrity of this game.  I know the scores were high, which was expected.  I can tell you it was not a local THS.
