Title: US Oopen Oil Pattern
Post by: Stjosephkid on February 20, 2005, 06:10:43 AM
Yesterday night I was at carolier for the us open, and i bowled on the lanes with the oil pattern after the match play was over. Now I average 190 at this house and I never thought that it would be hard to bowl on the pba shots. Wow was I wrong, I shot three games hitting the pocket 5 times. If you miss one board right itll never come back, and one board in and it takes a left turn. What I'm basicalyy trying to say is I give props to anyone who can bowl on the tour like this, and I dare anyone who thinks that they're capable of beating pros to bowl on this first.

If you bowled after they did, then that was a worn pattern with significantly more room left and right than when they bowled on the fresh oil pattern. Now at least someone understand show difficult a shot they had.

10 average shots that a good house bowler might throw on a house shot to average 215 - 230, will produce a 160 game on this pattern IF you convert every makeable spare!

It was a fresh shot that was on a lane that wasnt used for match play yesterday.

I bowled in the tournament and trust me on this...The original pattern they put down only lasted for the 15 minute practice and maybe 6 frames, after that outside of around 15 board was so slick it would never come back and inside it was extremely dry.You had about 2 boards to hit and if you hit your target your speed and hand position had to be perfect or SPLIT.Only 12 pba tour members out of 64 averaged over 200. also 8 other people were over 200 out 430 in the tourn. My highest block was 165 average.I am not that good but 2 guys on my lane with 230 averages in leagues averaged in the 160"s for the whole 18 games. It was unbeleivably difficult.so Stjosephkid you are correct.I also only got 3 strikes the entire 2 hour practice session on monday.I increased my pin total by 100 after 6 game block and my high was only 165 average.I only average 200 in leagues

also the fresh was much easier than as the pattern broke down for most of the bowlers

charlest,The more we bowled the outside got more and more wet.The inside the more and more dry.Reverse block condition.

Then you see it was "cruel and unusual punishment"!

I watched for 3 solid days. I was in agony, almost literally wtching them trying to get to the pocket and then trying to carry.

This was just truly and honestly unbelieveable.

Yes. It wasn't a reverse block; it just played that way, as they said on TV today.

The only place for the breakpoint was 10 - 12 board. period. Those playing inside out were in the area. those playing outside had trouble getting to the pocket; when they got there, it was a 30% chance that they'd carry a strike. No more than 30%.

"Brutal" does not even begin to describe the agony.

Yeah, but league bowlers who bowl on this can understand how good the pros really are.

I bowled 4 games on this pattern on saturday. It's crazyhow hard this pattern is, any grab and you flag the headpin, I threw a lot of good shots ended up through the face. I averaged 190 for the 4 games, missed a few makeable spares.

That is GREAT bowling, from what I saw.
