Just got back (1:00 PM Eastern) from the first squad. What a disaster! Bodies lying all over the floor, careers ruined, House bowlers crying and gnashing their teeth, kicking ball bags. Death and destruction abound!

One of the best, of course, Ryan Shafer, +115 after 1st 6 games.
Mike Devaney, -3 after 6. Tim Mack, +50 or thereabouts.

Conditions are brutal. Lots of 3 counts, TONS of easy missed spares. Washouts all over.

30 out of 145 or more are PLUS after 6 games.

Many people were already playing 5th arrow in the 2nd game of the 6 game block.
41 feet but it isn't heavy oil.

Michael Cimba was having a hard time. I didn't bother him as he had his hands full. Never saw him bowl before - true stroker. Very even tempered.

So am I reading the graphs correctly that the lane condition is 1:1 ratio?

according to the lane condition page:

The U.S. Open condition is a "flat" oil pattern with equal oil being placed on each board, gutter to gutter

My understanding is that the guys who did well on A squad "knew" scores would be higher in B and that they would move down in relation to their first finish.

In other words 10th place after A figured he would be 25th to 30th after B instead of 20th etc.

My friend did great and moved up after 5 games and is very excited that he has the shots to compete on this brutal format.

It is expected that C squad will be more of the A squad difficulty(reoiled again).

Then tomorrow they rotate times and oilings.  A squad  will get their chance at the opened up shot.  B squad will get their chance at the difficult initial shot evening things up!

I guess you didn't notice how quickly I left the building so I wouldn't do anything stupid... (Or more stupid than I did this morning)

Still 12 games to go. I think a wheel fell off in the 4th game this morning....

Michael Cimba

Michael,

With what I viewed of your game (for the first time), you seem to be Mr. consistency & really, really smooth. Put that 4th wheel back on, stay focused and cool and make no huge moves ===> the next 12 games should be good. Be careful Thursday at Noon, when you hit the DRY.

(<original text was to make a comment on your ball; On 2nd thought, I don't dare; you have the courage to bowl this; I do not.> I'll be there supporting my friend (whom I'll leave nameless as he's doing badly,) if I get a chance and you're not too distracted, I'll say hello.

GOOD LUCK!

Just came back from the 3rd squad, "C", more fresh oil; same results as "A" squad - VERY, VERY difficult.

Norm Duke +11.
Saw one game by Voss, no strikes, all spares, a hair off on a very bad pair reaped maximum penalty.
Most would pay hard money for a triple. Triples/turkeys got TRUE applause.
Absolutely brutal.
Even perfect shots were rarely rewarded.

Good luck to everyone.
