Guys who bowled in A squad will again have a tough time of it tonight.

However those who bowled B yesterday should be leading as I hear pattern "opens" a little.

On 3rd day A squad bowlers will finally have their chance at the slightly higher scoring afternoon pattern without fresh oiling.

This is the theory I have heard.

Stay near even the morning and evening sessions make all your hay in the afternoon.

REgards,

LUckylefty
PS Ron Dixon 14th A squad yesterday, Ameleto 10th or 11th A squad yesterday.  Both moved down as other squads went.  Roomates from the past.

2nd squad with 6 games bowled on each pair opens up a LOT!
Evidence: 30 of 150 were plus on "A squad.
60 of 150 were PLUS on "B" squad.
I doubt if "B" squad had twice as many of the talented players.
They're fairly well spaced out among the 3 squads.

Sounds AND LOOKS very reasonable to me.
Going back at 6 PM to watch "A" squad bowl on fresh oil again.

WOn't be watching on Thursday as I have to work during the day and I promised
to sub Thursday night. darn!

I think EXCALIBER is bowling there also, but not positive. Has anyone heard how he is doing?

Folks, for all who think this might be too tough, unfair or overly tight, why is it that the guy leading the B squad is probably the best bowler in the world and the guy in second place in the C squad may be his competition for world's best pure bowler?

Mr. Marlowe,

You're missing one main point:
B squad has outscored A and C squads simply by means of the worn out shot they had. That opened up the lanes CONSIDERABLY. Please read my posts in this thread. I've watched this disaster unfold. (My heart bleeds for these guys and gals. This is just not funny; it is not separating the wheat from the chaff.)

Just got back from "A" squad's 2nd outing on the fresh pattern. (Wednesday, 10 PM)

More bodies strewn helter skelter, hither, thither and yon. More screaming, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Tons of agony and not one damned ecstasy.

Triples are awarded with masses of applause. 200s are rare. Brooklyns abound for everyone!

Watched Ryan Shafer give textbook lessons in accuracy and consistency. The man is amazing. His back hurts so much he literally cannot bend from the waist; yet he is throwing 240s, like they were water. I watched him trying to pick up a spare ball and pick up a ball from his bag on the floor - he has to bend at the knees. Don't know how he is not screaming in agony. No idea how he'll bowl tomorrow or in match game play. he hasn't bowled 2nd squad yet (no re-oiling).

Watched people like Bob Learn, Amleto, Duke, Voss, Walliczek, Reyes, Edwards, Arnold and Michelle Feldman shaking their heads in amazement; make a good shot and it goes thru the nose or goes Brooklyn or leaves washouts. They ALL walk back from the foul line shaking their heads in consternation.

I hope "A" squad certainly does better tomorrow at Noon when they get the 2nd shift of no oil.

Excuse me, B squad bowled first on the second day, A squad bowled first the first day fir.  And Walter Ray is still leading his squad.  Chris Barnes is Second overall, Ryan Schafer undoubtedly one of the finest players around is fourth and Patrick Healey, another guy who can be super consistent with power is sixth.  Other folks (Ken Abner and Tony Reyes, who have been hot) round out the top six.

Once again, the point is simple:  If the conditions are so ridiculous, why are the hottest and best bowlers in the world at the top?  The answer is, because this condition IS identifying the best.  We all cry about conditions being too easy, well folks, this is what happens -- remember Pete Weber winning last year?

Yeah it is tough, but that is THE POINT.  Should we hold golf's US Open at your local muni or cut the grass so that anyone can score like at the Hope?  Nope.

Oh, and here is some food for thought. Below is a list of PBA Hall of Famers and their career appearances in the championship round of the U.S. Open:

6 Earl Anthony, Pete Weber, Walter Ray Williams Jr.
5 Marshall Holman
4 Dave Husted, Brian Voss,
3 Dave Davis, Johnny Petraglia
2 Mike Aulby, Parker Bohn III, Steve Cook, Larry Laub,Amleto Monacelli
Mark Roth, Dick Weber, Wayne Zahn,
1 Nelson Burton Jr., Dave Ferraro, Don Johnson, Mike Limongello
Mike McGrath, David Ozio, Dick Ritger, Teata Semiz, Dave Soutar, Wayne Webb

Yeah, I guess the condition is unfair.
