Viper Pattern

I've bowled on all the other names patterns besides the Viper and have done fairly well, today was the first time i had a chance to bowl on the Viper... Well, it had been laid out about 5 hours earlier, so it had brokendown some and had had 2+ hours of plastic balls going down the lane, so it was carrydown city...
This was NOT fun at all

Don't assume that's what the viper will actually play like. Honestly, I go to something with a tamer backend and basically play the Viper like a house shot that has an out of bounds at the 7 or 8 and I'm fine.

Or you can play it straight up this OB line...7 or 8.

I have absolutely no assumption that that is how the Viper normally plays, i bowled on it after it had been out for 5 hours and broken down by people practicing and then there had been 2+ hours of plastic houseballs going down the lane

I figured. Just saying, though.

The Viper has always been the closest to a house shot for me. Slow it down, scuff something backendy (I always liked the Black Widow at about 1000 or 800), and break point about 10.

That's what I'd do, anyway.

I once practiced on the Scorpion pattern after it had been used for about two hours by a bunch of middle school aged kids.  They just destroyed the outside part of the lane -- my strongest equipment went straight as an arrow if I got it outside 10.  They turned it into a sort of reverse block.  It was pretty interesting.

But back to the Viper, that pattern is so unique because it plays so differently from fresh to broken down.  On fresh, I use something strong and play off the gutter with a lot of speed and ride the oil line to the pocket.  As the lanes start to dry up, I move inside and slow hook something pearl.

I average as high or higher than Viper than I can THS.

On the other hand, I can't shoot my IQ on Cheetah.

It's funny how certain patterns match up to some people and not to others. My advice I usually give people on Viper is to use your targets and breakpoint from a house shot, but move your feet to play straighter up the lane. Throw a couple of shots, look at what happens, and then move your feet accordingly. I make nearly all my adjustments on Viper with changes in my starting spot, and with the amount of tilt I put on the ball. I rarely change my marks downlane.
