First of all He does use Switch grip interchangable thumbs and they are made by Turbo Grips not Vise.  I know he does put thumb in first and rotates his hand afterwards and this has nothing to do with the switch gip its just to get his feel right. I however do not know if he also turns his thumb each time to make sure its locked into place or not.  I don't know what his pitches are but can probably find out.  I use switch grips and they stay locked unless you move them yourself I guess he could do it to assure himself but like I said he moves his hand I know for sure and has nothing to do with the switchgrip.  He likes thumb in first then fingers so he won't be inclined to grab as much.

Tommy's been putting his thumb in first for years, before switch grips even came out.  I remember seeing him first bowl around 1998 and he was doing that.  It's just coincidental that he still does it with the switch grips.

usually when you put in your tumb first, you dont want to get so much fingers when you release.
