Since the season is basically over, what are your thoughts on the current PBA telecast format? PERSONALLY I liked the 5 bowler stepladder format much more.

go back old school and give us tips. take out the questions and the skills challenge(while cool, not that useful) make one big tip section. i like both competition formats either the 4man or 5man.

A number of years ago, there were some tournaments sponsored by AMF and held in Richmond, VA.  The finals were in an arena with the top four bowling a round-robin format.  A vs. B and C vs. D with the winner of each match getting bonus points.  The two matches were played at the same time on the adjoining pairs of lanes so there was constant action.  After the first pair of matches they would rotate with A vs. C and B vs. D.  Next it would be A vs. D and B vs. C.

Each bowler's three game total plus bonus pins determined standings with the top two bowling a one game match for the title.  The other bowlers received third and fourth place.  As an extra incentive during the week, the top seed going into the finals would get choice of lanes on the show (this was done because there were a lot of complaints from bowlers who lead the tournament by a large margin all week and then lost a one game match for the title).

With this format, you got to see four bowlers bowl at least three games each.  The top two bowled four games (more air time for the bowlers).  There was constant action with two matches going on simultaneously.  There was incentive to post as high a score as possible even if you were shut out because the winner of the other match might end up with less even with bonus pins.

I really looked forward to seeing this tournament when it came around.  I hope the PBA will consider doing something similar again.

points is stupid,..count the cash,...top xx money winners are exempt,..how hard is that.

I would also like to see the 7 game block and 14 game block leaders get a check,...

and the tournament be seeded by the 14 game totals,...not the last 20 tournaments...

You need to keep the skills challenge, on 3 different occasions this year I've had "non-bowlers" who knew I watched the PBA regularly approach me & tell me how cool that segment was & that they wished there was more of it.

Agreed Bjaardker,
It may not be what bowlers like but the casual fan loves the skill competition. They love seeing that. Even the hacks who bowl 1 night a week and average 150 love the skill competition. If they are watching and having interest, then it needs to stay.

The skills challenge is my 5 year old's favorite part of the show. I hope they keep it.

The skills challenge is nice due to being different. Would like to see and hear more tips from the pro's. I have said it before but I would like to see them bring back "What's in the bag" and add to that why they would need to use it. Don't think it will happen but would be nice to see.
