Walter Ray
« on: January 27, 2006, 09:19:05 AM »
Where has he been? I can remember back before the season started there was a poll on PBA dot com. The question asked which was the most likely to happen this year on tour. Among the choices one was "Walter Ray Williams Jr. winning 41." This was voted (don't know how many) to be the most likely to happen. Well, a little over half-way through the season and I don't think he even has a TV appearence (aside from the Dexter commercial). Does anyone know what is going on? Last year he at least made TV but now he isn't even doing that. Is he trying something different? The outside not working for him anymore? Opposition getting better? I'm sure there are plenty of you out there that don't really care, but I'm curious. What is going on with Walter Ray?

His average is down about six pins from last year.  Could mean fewer Round of 32 appearances, and more likely match-play losses.  Wait until the US Open, I think he'll turn it around, even if he doesn't win.  He typically does well in long-format, open tournaments.  He was 17th at the Masters, 9th at the Dick Weber Open, and he did well at the majors last year.

Two years ago, he didn't make a telecast at all until the second half, and then went on to win two titles plus was top eight in all but three of the remaining events.  If I remember right, he was top eight in points for the whole year after the World Championships.

This could be like that, and he's worked his way up the points list, he's 18th right now and if he goes off like he did two years ago, he could still be top ten easily.  I'll be amazed if he doesn't make a show at all this year.

He just hasn't been able to make it through Match Play. If you look at how he did today even though he only shot real well the 1st 2 games his opponent(Healey) had only 1 open frame in 7 games. It's tough to beat that.

I'm probable WRONG but his downfall started when he (and his wife) started this WEIGHT LOSS campaign! WONDER if it has something to do with STAMINA?

I can attest to when you lose a lot of weight quickly, your hand sizes shrinks some and your mechanics will be affected.  For someone who has relied on one thing through the years, maybe its taken him time to adjust to the lighter frame, or he can't get his hand just the way he likes it

I did not mean it in a bad way....

I have just found that commercial hysterical with the box of cereal in the Dexter's commercial titled as Ozio's!!!

REgards,

PS probably sounded bad!  And I'm a real big fan of his bowling!
