US Open day 2

Did any one else notice the scores from the first block this morning:


B squad through 12 games (six today)

1, Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., 2,455.
2, Richard Wolfe, Vienna, Va., 2,421.
3, Michael Machuga, Erie, Pa., 2,415.
4, Brian LeClair, Athens, N.Y., 2,374.
5, James Wallace, North Babylon, N.Y., 2,365.
6, (TIE) Chris Barnes, Flower Mound, Tx, and Mike Wolfe, New Albany, Ind., and Tom Carter, Rochelle, Ill, 2,323.
9, Kenneth Abner, Cincinnati, 2,318.

After 12 games only 3 guys are plus?  Wow......

Jesse throws it awesome, alot of power w/ somewhat of a soft hand at the bottom.  Very lethal, should be interesting to see how well he can become bowling at whichita next year.

Bill O'neill is in 53rd place+52 and Shawn Boyd is in 58th place+40. Nice showing for both so far.

I was there from 9-2 and watched most of B and some of the C squad. I give some names, what they were throwing when I saw them and where they were playing.

Duke-mainly using a Passion and playing right up six.
Rash-using a Vapor Zone swinging 16/17 to about 12. One of the few people who could get it past the heads and still make it recover consistently.
Weber-Fired Up, mainly inside, struggled all day.
Walter Ray-Very low grit Exception going up 8.
Scroggins-Delta Rule going straight up the left side around 10.

Two examples of just how hard they were.

Rudy using what looked to be a Blueberry Buzzsaw, was lofting the gutter cap on the left. Starting the ball about 32 to about 14. After throwing a double, he let one leak about 3 boards right. The ball never grabbed at all and it went in the right gutter at about 48 feet. He chuckled and I shook my head. Unreal.

Tim Criss moved outside, around 6 after being in most of the day using a U-turn. Went spare-next 10 strikes. An absolute feat on the conditions that were out there. He let up and pushed his last ball and almost took off 3 on the right. Got lucky to get 7.

Clean release, consistent speed control, and accuracy were the keys to even having a chance. Lot's of local guys who I bowl with who average between 230-240 were in the 170 range on this. It is a true test.

That's incredible!!! Every time I think I want to give this tournamnet a shot I read something like this. I am pretty much a one dimensional bowler so I don't think I'll ever give it a shot.

Machuga showed up late and got 0 for two frames yesterday!

A house shot vs the us open shot is like comparing a motor scooter to a monster truck.  House shots reward you for spraying the ball anywhere outside with sufficient revs to get back...  on the us open shot, you have better have a clean, smooth, consistant release with no hitting up on the ball or you won't get the same look twice.  So to say that you need to average a certain number in league to be able to compete is just not true.  You need to be able to throw the ball consistant and make all your spares to be able to compete...
