Now what are we going to have to complain about until the summer shows?

we will complain about how the season should be longer

I'd like to complain that the money is so small and crappy!
I feel bad for these superstars.
For me....watching the bowling of these incredible performers was the best ever.
For many weeks I have said we have seen some incredible performances.
This week again. I don't remember a power player EVER looking more perfectly balanced at the line and the swing and release was so FLAT to the lane ....virtually perfect. To throw those scores on that pattern that Tommy Jones did was just freaky GREAT!
Chris Barnes I felt threw the ball absolutely beautifully and just ran into a buzzsaw!
WOW...another week....another GREAT show. What a season of incredible performances...UNFORTUNATELY for less money than ever....(and I'm sure for the inflation adjusted least ever for Professional bowling...SO SAD!).
WOW...thank you pros!
To Norm, Tommy, Tony, Jason, PDW, Walter RAY, Doug Kent, Chris Barnes, Wes Malott, Ryan Shafer ...thanks for a season of incredible performances and outstanding accomplishment.
I think....the best bowling accomplishments and display of skill week after week EVER! I stand and applaud in amazement!

Props to Jeff Carter too for making two shows. This was a great year of bowling on T.V. for sure.

First time ever...no rolls to ritches for mr. barnes...Go TJ!!! Or did he get in with the fan vote? I think it was Duke and Williams but I'm not sure along with Kent,Mallot(sp?),and TJ.
--------------------
Move left, hook it more.....
Tommy Jones is a Gamecock fan...are you???
Spares raise your average...Strikes win you titles...

Duke, WRW, Kent, Malott, TJ, and PDW. TJ'll probably win. Bummer.

LUCKY .. you are SO RIGHT! I was only having similar thoughts Sunday right after the telecast! That was the best bowling I've seen!

Barnes is in because it's 6 bowlers (PDW/U.S. Open, Kent/USBC Masters & World Championship, Jones/ToC, Duke, WRW, and Barnes/top 3 in voting). "6 bowlers will vie for the $150,000 winner-take-all prize."

I have to agree it was a fun season. Hate to see it end. I am rooting for PDW to win Player of the Year. Things I think they should get rid of for next season:
1. The microphones on the player - That way they cannopt cuss and everyone hears them.
2. The Skills Challenge - Waste of time
3. Randy Pederson - He does belong. He is annoying and always making making excuses for the players.
4. Dave Ryan - He is terrible and I am tired of hearing 60 feet to success.
5. The Arena Finals - It just does not work for Bowling. Not enough interest.
Things they can add:
1. Norm Duke or Chris Barnes to the booth. Great job. Jason Couch did a terrible job last week.
2. More sponsorship for better prize funds.
3. Show the qualifying of TV.
4. Every week showing the pattern on the lanes like Randy did with the pins this week on the lanes.
I agree except for number 3. Randy can stay, Dave should go. Yea Randy can have his annoying moments but Dave is an annoyance period.
And just because Tony Reyes didn't cuss, that doesn't mean they should take the microphones away.
Arena finals have been around for a long time. If they wanted to get rid of them they definitely would have done so already.
I like the skills challenge but I don't think they should show it during the tournament itself. I want to watch the tournament not the skills challenge. They should just do what they have done recently and show just the skills challenege by itself for a half hour and not during the tournament itself.
Everything else seems good. I would think Norm Duke could replace Dave Ryan.

Randy will be around as long as the PBA will have him. Whether you like it or not, Randy brings some humor and wit to the show. We need that because whether people believe it or not, the PBA core audience isnt the scratch bowler anymore. The viewers need to be entertained
Dave Ryan - The PBA has nothing to do with Dave Ryan. He is an ESPN employee and they seem to want him to be the guy in the booth. I will give him some credit though, he has gotten better at deferring to the other guys in the booth and talking less. I did get a little bit of insight into Dave during TV meetings, and i have to say that changed my opinion of him a little. He is pretty well prepared, just doesnt have the bowling "knowledge" to deliver it the right way
I'll agree on the Skills Challenge - its been overdone. Hopefully the will find something to fill that gap. ESPN wants 4 man shows, so its up to the producer to fill time with something entertaining
The Arena Finals - you only have to worry about that at Majors. The PBA just cant afford to set up Arena finals like they had invisioned. Maybe someday, but just not now
The microphones are a big part of the show and i for one am all for it. Do i wish the players would control the language better.....sure. But in all honesty i think that gets a little overblown. It doesnt happen that often
I think the booth needs a mix of Chris, Norm and Jay. I think they all bring something different to the booth and it would be nice to see them rotated, no matter whos on the show
The PBA is always working on new sponsorship ( along with StrikeTen and Winnercom ). Its just not that easy
I doubt that as long as we have a 1 1/2 hour show, you will ever see qualifying. Maybe someday we will have a 2 hour show and they can show highlights. If we're really lucky, the PBA will invest in the StrikePass package again and go back to showing Match Play rounds on the Internet
I think you will start seeing more on the patterns in the future. The PBA Experience leagues have really taken of, so they will want to take full advantage of that.
It would be nice if the PBA and ESPN can come to an agreement on a Prime Time television slot ( maybe back to Tuesday nights)
Pro-Ams at the beginning of the week would certainly be better for everybody. If we had a Tuesday time slot, saturday pro-ams would work great
Hopefully the plans for a "Summer Tour" will eventually come to fruition, giving us more events to bowl in and allowing me to pack on more miles to my truck !!! This would also help keep the exempt guys out of the regional program, possibly allowing it to grow more

See that's just the problem though. Why would they throw someone that knows nothing about bowling in the booth with two veteran hall of famers who live for bowling? Just makes no sense you're asking for arguments lol. I have seen Dave Ryan do commentary for other sports and he's not as bad in other areas as bowling, yet that isn't saying much because he honestly is just not a good commentator. So why would ESPN do that? It's beyond me and over my head...

Sorry for the double post but another thing on that is nobody seems to like Dave Ryan either...if people were clamoring over Dave Ryan and how great of a commentator he is then I could understand. But we aren't sitting down on Sunday's tuning in to watch the show and saying out loud "Gee I can't wait to hear what Dave Ryan says!" Knowing very well that within the first 5 sentences the words "60 Feet to success" escape his mouth...

I must be one of the only people who liked the SC. I liked it more in previous years than this year, I wasn't crazy about the doubles bit. I'm not clear how two bowlers, on adjacent lanes, shooting for high count and then kissing each other is a skill. The flying eagle, the call your leave, even the big-split-with-two-balls are skills. Leaving a single pin, then converting it with a spinning ball you put on the lane before you threw the strike ball, that's a skill (you gotta leave the right single pin, if nothing else). High count gets an X? Not a skill.

The mics are a nice addition, I think. There is a brief delay, so it's not like they can't mute the occasional bad language. They're not going Bobby Knight or anything, letting loose a stream of expletives for a minute or two.

I didn't watch it the first time around, but I would now. Putting the previous week's show on Strikepass isn't really worth it; most people who can't watch it live either tape it, deal for a tape, or watch it the next weekend on ESPN Classic. The match play rounds would be much, much more interesting.

What would the schedule look like then? Qualifying on Friday, pro-ams on Saturday, match play on Sunday and Monday? Maybe that would work better for you guys, I don't know. But I bowl on Tuesday nights, and it'd be tough to get them to put bowling on the big screen when the college B-ball is on TV.

Is that really a problem? Of course, they're taking money and titles from other regional bowlers, but is it that often that they come in and just dominate the summer? Seems like the guys who are in serious contention for the regional exemptions the next year would benefit from competing against the current exempt bowlers. You have more experience with it than I do, so I'm sure you know better, but if the national guys are wiping the floor with even the top regional bowlers, I'd question whether they'd have much success on the big tour.

Shelley - i for one enjoy bowling regionals. I would just like to see a Summer Tour instead.
I realize that a tuesday night timeslot would be tough to adjust to, but its a neccessary evil to get us away from the NFL. The key is to get the Prorietors working to support the PBA, which means that when the PBA is on TV...they actually show it !!!
Metallica - ESPN could care less who they have in the booth. Why would they ( other than the fact that they have a vested interest in the PBA ) ? Dave Ryan is their jack of all trades, so to speak. He does everything from Lacross to tiddly winks for them. I'm sure he was a logical choice for them. Frankly, i dont know who else they would use ( although i think Suzy Kolber would look great in the booth )
I agree on the Skills Challenge. It brought some great exposure for the first 2 years, but just about everything has been done already. I was on hand for the first 2 tapings of the Doubles and there were a few shots where the guys almost tore the set down using chairs ( namely my roommate !!! ). You can also factor in Brian Voss alledgingly getting hurt during the skills challenge

That I can certainly understand. I'd like to see 'em get back to 30+ events per year instead of the 20-21 events they have now. They could open the summer tour up to non-exempt bowlers, like before they went to the exempt format. That way, the exempt guys would have the option of taking time off without worrying about maintaining their status, they'd still have the guaranteed income during the fall/winter tour, and they could even put a new major event like the TPC in over the summer just to keep things exciting.

i remember when espn had live tv finals on tuesday nights back in the mid 1990's. i would welcome that----it gave you something to look forward to watching on tv during the week. there would be less competition from other sports that dominate the airways on sunday( can you say nfl or nba ? )

what ever happened to Denny Schriner(sp) the guy in the booth with Durbin in the late eighties? he was good and could bowl

For oversea followers like myself, strikepass is the only fix.
And yes, I do miss the old days where they showed rounds of 16/8 LIVE on strikepass, with Del Ballard Jr plus guest on the mic.

I agree the show shouldn't be on Sunday. I'm watching football at this time as is half of the country. At the very least they should get a repeat of it Sunday night. Anyways....
I think they should make the "arena" much more darker. They should have a Madison Square Garden effect. The light is on the two lanes being played and the approach. Dimmer light where the players sit and darker in the stands.
I remember it often looked like this when I was a kid. It looked more serious and prestigious. And it makes sense because the light should be on the players and the lanes, not the audience and other things.

Yea...PBA on another day is the way.
