USA vs The World
« on: January 09, 2011, 02:13:59 AM »
How bad is USA going to lose?

Either the shot on the left lane is brutal or the Americans don't know wtf there doing.

Question

Why does the PBA use Cheetah for pretty much everything?

Be good, or be good at it.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Watch the team usa trials on the Internet.  It's much more interesting than a PBA event..at least the WSOB.  What a snore fest!

SORRY BUT I DISAGREE!!!

AS WE KNOW TWO WEEKS IN WSOB CONDITIONS DOESNT DICTATE WHO ARE THE BEST USA BOWLERS.

I WILL GO FOR THE GUYS WHO WENT TO EUROPE AND BRING BACK THE WEBER CUP!!(WEBER/WRWJR/JONES/COUCH/BARNES/And i will change TIm MAck for DUKE)

ITS LIKE IN BASEBALL... WHO DO YOU PREFER IN A WORLD SERIES GAME 7 9th INNING?? MARIANO RIVERA OR NEFTALI FELIZ

You guys want to be able to name the players roster in a tourney, you need to bring back the Shootout at Black River or whatever that thing was called a couple of years ago.  I don't know why this is such a news flash to some, but PDW, Duke, Voss  are riding the rails to has-been town.  Jury is out on WRW Jr.  They didn't make the cut to make the show, yet you guys complain about it.  They start bowing better, they make shows.  Simple, no?

Weber, Williams and Duke ARE on the downside of their careers. What else do you expect from guys their age? It's just plain ol' logic. Yes, we love them, but no one stays at the top forever. Not in bowling, golf, business, popular music, nothing. That's just life.

Having said that, I don't understand how they even got themselves worked into this post. The rules were clear. Finish in the top 6 at the World Series, bowl the final show. It doesn't matter who anyone wants to see. It matters who qualifies to be there.

As someone mentioned above, what I was really interested in was why, throughout the entire WSOB, a lot of the pros tried to play the lanes completely wrong. It's almost like they were infected with a case of League Bowleritis, trying to hook the whole lane when it wasn't needed. Who did the best job in the USA v. World? Haugen, Belmonte and Palermaa. Haugen was playing straight as always, Belmonte was playing straight with his plastic ball and Palermaa was playing mostly straight with urethane. The only show this year where straighter didn't seem to be the play was the one that poor Barnes lost. How many people did we have to see get 3 pins on the left lane in this telecast before it became obvious?

I think it didn't help that during the week on each of the patterns (except for Cheetah), the best strategy was to hook it. Watch the qualifying coverage on Xtra Frame and you'll see that the shots got so torn up from lots of games that everyone had to get inside and cover boards. I even saw Norm Duke playing 6th arrow. Come on! Then TV show day rolled around and any right-handers that made the show all had the big hook game and were used to covering a lot of boards, and surprise, the TV pair played nothing like that and favored the people who threw it straighter.

Finally got around to watching the DVR of the match last night, all I can say is that I am glad that the WSOB is almost over.  I gave it a chance over the past two years but I have lost interest in the PBA, the telecasts have been subpar and I know I missed watching at least two of the events and don't even care.  I have been a diehard and loyal fan for several years and enjoy bowling but they have got to come up with something better than what they are putting on TV.  JMO.

WRW finished 2nd in the Team USA trials last week.  36 games over 4 different different WTA patterns and was 119 pins or so away from first place.  That's pretty good for someone on the downside.  Mike Fagan ended up fifth.

The telecast did remind me a lot of league bowling, with five guys on the same team all trying to use aggressive stuff in roughly the same area. Well, make that four - Michael Haugen at least seemed to get how to play that scenario.
