What are the odds?
« on: January 27, 2006, 12:52:33 AM »
What are the odds of seeing a Voss vs Loschetter rematch from last year? Does any one remember the beef cake whining and crying about Chris doctoring the lanes and how it should not be allowed, then his rant on pba boards about the integrity of the pba going downhill. I use to be a fan of Voss until he pulled that tasteless act and took away from his opponents accomplishment. He later said he had no ill feelings against chris but I suspect otherwise. Do yall think that the rules should be changed or is it part of the game doctoring the lanes? You can read more about it here ~~~~~> http://www.bowlersjournal.com/the_messenger/display_article?id=67

Short answer, yes.  I think there should be some sort of change in the rules.  The only two waysI can think to do it is to somehow limit the grit of the ball or to eliminate or greatly shorten the practice time on the competition lanes.  Second way is probably easier.

I think they should limit the practice time too, but will they is the question. I dont think it takes 10 minutes to line up on a pattern youve seen all week regardless if ita arena finals or in the same center finals.

2hAnDeDbOwLr804 Its funy u should metion that, But no one ever mentions that Chu Chu shot 160 the next game. Chris stuggled on tv just as many people have in the past but yet because he is not some HUGE SUPER STAR and he was throwing Lane #1 stuff he gets bashed all over. I dont believe what Chris did last year was illegal at all and hey if your good enuff to creat a hook spot for yourself during practice and then throw 1 shot and be lined up, why in the world would you not take advanage of that. Chris is one hell of a bowler in my opinion(The pro shop i work at drills some of his stuff) and in a few years i think he will be one of the new superstars of the game.

Brunswick,Lane#1,Morich,Hammer,Ebonite,Columbia,AMF,Storm,RotoGrip......they all leave ten pins, I swear after I try dynothane and lanemaster if the ten pins still there I might begin to think it might just be
me...... (finally decided to add a signature)

Pfft. That would be  "wonderful" idea. I'd love to see everyone average 150 every game.

the fact that brian voss was upset about losing is understandable---i felt he could have remained a little more composed though. chris is not yet in brian's league( what 23 titles against 0 ? ).

Harry- so if your bowling and u make your first tv finals every and your ball rep tells u to do something, don't you think your going to do whatever he says because he's been there and you haven't? The only thing Chris did was listen to his ball rep and do what he told Chris to do. I don't understand how you can get upset at Chris for doing what he was told to do by someone who is a very respected ball rep. ad been there many times. Yea Voss has more titles then Chris but more titles doesn't mean anything on one particular day, if that the case then why isn't Walter Ray in every show every week. So does that mean that there are only like 3 people in Walter Ray's league???

So the defense is "I was only following orders"?  hmmm, where have we heard that before...oh yeah, Nazi Germany.  And before I'm told it's an "unfair" comparison, Ethics are Ethics.  Was Chris, or any other bowler that uses that practice, within the rules?  Yes.  Is it the most ethical practice?  IMO, No.  And the reason BV and Chris are not in the same league isn't because BV has won more titles, BV has won more titles because he's not in the same league as Chris.  Will he get there someday?  Maybe, But to date Voss has had a HoF career, and so far Chris hasn't.

It just seems ridiculous to me in the first place that the pros get so much practice time on the TV pair and that allows them to try to burn a shot for themself.
That situation did, however, bury the age-old saying - "There is no defense in bowling". Seems to me that what Loschetter did last year was akin to "playing defense" by destroying his opponent's strike line.

I agree with whoever said that ethics are ethics.  However, I do not agree with the timing of Voss' comments.  I think that both were in the wrong on this one.  If they are going to have multiple pairs for the tv finals, loosen up on the pair not being used and then transfer over once scoring starts.  As far as the tv pair and practice, give a bowler 2 minutes on each lane and be done with it.  I believe that as a professional in any sport, you have to perform with integrity.  I am not calling Loschetter a cheater, because he was not doing that.  But, there is such a thing as an unfair tactic.  What is the difference between doing what he did and maybe sneaking some rosin or powder into a thumb hole of an opponent?  If you are going to do something, do it right.  You are more respected for it.
