The reason Tommy Jones won?
« on: March 23, 2008, 09:51:28 AM »
Was it my eyes or did it seem that Tommy Jones won because he was the most consistent with his ball speed, his target and with his release? He wasn't 100%, of course, but he seemed to be the most consistent.

Tommy DeLutz was a close second; if he didn't slow down just a hair too much and leave those 2 four pins, it would have been THE match.

Congrats to TJ.
I think, maybe, today the guy who executed the best won.

It's all about carry.  Tommy's mistakes all carried with little exception, and nobody else's did.

Everyone else left 4 pins on tight shots, not Tommy.  Everyone else left 4's and 10's on wide shots, but not Tommy.

Except for the tenth frame of the second game where he threw plastic at the fill ball, didn't he only miss striking 3 times?  That's a REAL HIGH carry %.

if he didnt leave the few 10s he shots 279-300-300 the only thing he left was the 2 pin where he got REAL wide.

Tommy won today because he executed better than everybody else.

Well said... the difference maker between TJ winning and TD JR winning was the fact that TD gets on the left lane and hits the spot about a foot early and the ball faces up too soon and leaves him a 9 count. Gets back up on the same lane and makes the same exact shot.

There were about 5 shots that if it wasn't for nothing but pure power, TJ was looking at a 9 pin or 10 pin...but because he made the pins dance almost on command today, he just dared a pin to stand up and defy him..

Towards the initial post from Charlest:

The two shots that Tommy D threw where he left the 4 win, IMO, was not because of him slowing down his speed, but rather getting the ball out farther right. I used my DVR this week and watched that match very closely because im a huge supporter of Delutz. On the two shots where he left the 4 pin he missed wide right at least three boards, resulting in a TON of friction and thus the ball jumping high for the 4 pin. Other than that, Tommy D threw an amazing game today, and i really wish he got something to show for it.

269-268-257---pretty consistent.I'd not argue with a series liek that.I watched and what I saw was carry, consistent shotmaking, command of ball speed and timing, and rev rate that allowed for extra carry.
Tommy D did throw an excellent game.He did the same thing that WRW did in missing a little right which resulted in 4 pins on one lane and ten pins on another............

Pete just looked horrible . . poor guy.  He acted really unusual today.  He almost acted nervous and was really jittery.  Walter Ray had a lot of hold room.  He tugged the ball quite a bit in both matches.  The second one in the tenth against Malott was a freakin rope.  Walter's biggest problem right now I think on tv is that he's throwing it instead of getting it into a roll.  It seems like he's trying too hard to get it to tip over on the backend.  The few times Tommy left those tens was when he looped it instead of stayed firm with it.  Now there were quite a few times he carried when he looped it too, but I think everybody left something nasty when they tried to loop it.  Staying firm with the ball today was the key.  On a pattern like that where backends are sharp anyway, staying firm smoothes the ball reaction out.  It showed when they didn't.

I wouldn't quite say that.  He executed well, but not as good as Tommy Delutz.  TJ won because he found a way to maximize his area.  He could hit anywhere from 2 to about 7 at the break and carry.  Usually when you get the ball in a little on Cheetah, it's a disaster.  Not so for TJ today.

The shine from his dome distracted the others to much.

J/K

I didnt even watch the show yet, And I dont really care to now knowing PDW lost AGAIN on TV! I think Pete is beginning to think to much when he's on TV. He's made 3 telecasts this season, and looked like a nervous rookie in all 3. Can't take nothing away from TJ though, he got game!

It seems when TJ is on he has such a wide pocket (a few weaks tens aside). He carries like no one else sometimes. I am surprised we don't see him more. I wonder what hurts him when he isn't on. It seems like Tommy and Sean Rash are worlds away from everyone else when they are winning. You are right DeLutz looked good today but he got a tiny bit right on 2 4 pins and ball came back just a little too much. Jones seems to be able to get away with a little more than the average pro sometimes. Man I wish I had that ha ha.
