So much for Robert Smith only bowling well on Pattern E. There was alot of stuff posted regarding Robert's PBA Success and it seemed a bunch of guys thought Smith could only make a show if it was Pattern E. Well this is back to back shows for Maximum Bob. He's one of the best on tour today.

Well, technically he changed back to finger-tip in like October.  I think he's doing better due to the new format, which has given him confidence after making the show last week.

He could always just go conventional to get a lot of control over his game? lol He has gained a lot back now that he dropped the sarge easter though. He is one of my favorite bowlers exactly for that reason, that he has massive revs, but hes not a flinger, he actually has accuracy and control over it.

Yeah, but it has taken him a while to get used to finger tip again (a few months).

I will say that Robert Smith has seen the light as the same for Angelo. That trying to crank the ball from the 30 board to the 5 board does not provide them the road to the finals. What Robert has done that has made him come in second twice is over analyzing his shots. He has a better game then before. Now he just needs to have more confidence of what he is doing. Just keep the shot down and strong. With his new style in his approach, throw and finger layout. He can win a lot of tournaments from now on.

Nope, we didn't think it; that's what he did ..until today. and it's a great sign of his maturity AND flexibility.

I agree that he has got much more control on his game, which is better for those tougher patterns, but I also think he is trying to control it TOO much. He is simply trying to be something he is not all that great at. I think if he let himself play a somewhat deeper line, with stuff that will get back, he would do better. Im not saying swing the lane, but if he would just move in and swing from like 15-20 to about 5 or so. (or whatever his breakpoint is) He is just trying to play too straight for his open shoulder, high rev, swing it out there game.
