What is going on in the PBA?
« on: February 03, 2008, 08:49:51 PM »
Barnes fiasco in the TOC?

Ciccone's big whiff?

Scroggy throws it "like a league bowler" and splits the tenth?

Fagan whiffs?

Seriously, were we spoiled watching guys excel under pressure?  I watch to see them excel when it counts.

People love golf b/c they want to see Tiger do things they cannot.  I watch every week in amazement of what that guy does.  I am amazed by what I see on the PBA telecasts but for different reasons, however, it does make for entertaining television.

Maybe the planets are out of alignment....

It has certainly been a strange run as of late. We've become accustom to watching these guys come through in the clutch, but lately that just hasn't been in the stars.

One thing to remember, these guy are doing this on patterns that you and I would average 30 pins a game less on (give or take). Having just bowled a PBA regional this weekend, and tugging one about a board inside my mark and watching it leave the 3-4-6-7, to esentially lose my match, I understand how these shots can make someone look "average". It's not like they are doing this on some easy china house shot. So the average league bowler (not saying you are this agroves) needs to take things like this into account before thinking these guys are "failing".

Yes, but Ciccone missing a very easy spare conversion is very "un-professional", I can honestly say that I've never seen a pro miss an easy spair conversion when it really mattered.  Maybe a ten pin here or there, but two pins in the dead center of the lane?!?!

Hey, crapshoveler,

You, much like myself with a "185ish" average cannot talk about easy spares.  If spares were easy, you would average 210.

Do you actually know anything about bowling???? Just asking seriously. A single pin spare, whether a 10 pin (or a 7 pin for a lefty) is an easier spare then any 2 pin spare combination. When there are multiple pins there is added level of complexity to making the spare. All I am saying is that the people making the biggest stink about this, in this thread and others, couldn't do much better on these patterns. And in the long run would fall short of the scores of those we see on TV, even when they make mistakes. So bashing them about it just shows the lack of intelligence of the posters. Should Ciccone have made the spare, probably, but I bet a lot of these people posting have missed a spare in the tenth frame in their house league, bowling on a much much easier condition.

Dump the guys and put the girls back on!!!!

Show the Joy Esterson Liz Johnson match again.  Joy making an alignment adjustment in the tenth and punching out.  Liz punching out in the tenth to get to a roll-off.  Joy high-flushes the shot in the roll-off.

No yanks no easy misses no excuses!!!!!

It has nothing to do about how good or bad you bowl in any kind of lane or pattern. Is your mental game that goes into the gutter. That is what happened to Barnes and Ciccone's whiffs. Ciccone laughed about it and then took to much time thinking about what just happened outside the approach. Then went quickly towards the approach and threw it without any mental awareness. His mental awareness about the game was gone. Thinking too much gave him a blank brain during his execution. It happens to all of us. After we have release the ball we quickly realize what we have done and say, "What the heck was I thinking about." Absolutely nothing. We were brain dead for a nanosecond. In every frame or spare situation. The lesson is, Do not loose focus of what you have in front of you.

yay.....more of Liz playing uphill across the 5 board....more of seeing the 10 pin go down late and spare balls whizz down the lane at an amazing 17 miles per hour.

That just tells you how great the PBIII, WRW, and PDW out there really is.  They don't choke under pressure.

The girls are much more exciting than these whiff machines we have been seeing.  I love Joe C. but that first ball almost missed the lane entirely.

Its like so many people seem to have forgotten that despite the fact that these guys are professionals, they are also human beings.  Human's are inherently imperfect.

Pro baseball players go into slumps, make errors, strike out.  Pro golfers push shots, pull shots, miss easy putts, make mental errors.  If no other pro athletes are perfect, how can we expect professional bowlers to be perfect?

I agree with Danes07 and Jorge300 wvwrynoe misses shots their is no doubt about it.  I have choked a couple of times by tugging a shot when going for 300 late in the gtame.  It happens to the best of us.  But the better ones find a way to make back up and do it right next time.  I did a PBA experience league and yes I dropped about 20 + pins and yes muti pin spares can be tougher.
