Title: What is going on?****Possible Spoiler***
Post by: agroves on January 17, 2010, 10:54:05 AM
The best bowlers in the world flagging single pin after single pin on TV.  It amazes me.  We used to never see pros miss ANY spare(non-splits/washouts).  Now, it seems like there are 2-3 every show.

Thoughts?

it is likely either lack of focus/concentration or complacentcy or distraction.

it's not the tougher oil pattern. it's a lack of focus and concentration.

It was a hard pattern on unknown lanes.
You know that Machuga and Wolf rarely miss spares.
Something was rotten in Denmark, yet again.

I think they've got to start using the lanes in the house where they bowl
so that the winner should be a person who bowled well there.

Using special lanes for the telecast is FUBAR!!

Machuga put every ball in the pocket in the final match and lost.
It shouldn't be that way. It's wrong when the best execution loses.

Greg,

Everyone of them? Horse manure!!!
Wolf and Machuga don't make those kind of mistakes even on TV.
What would make you say something like that?

Anyone and everyone can miss spares on TV. It happens now and then through the week, and it happens on TV. It's just nerves and concentration like everyone has said. There's no reason to miss 2 singles pins in one game throwing plastic.

Saying its the "unknown lanes" is stretching it pretty far, dont you think? I guess whenever theres another arena finals anyone who loses can use that as an excuse now... LAME.

even the best miss spares.......walter ray williams, jr. and norm duke included. i have seen machuga and wolfe miss spares on telecasts before. when you aren't finding the pocket or carrying all ten it's easy to lose focus and concentration when it comes time to shoot a spare.

I've seen everyone miss A, one spare.

Wolfe missed 2 or 3 spares. That's ridiculous. One, I can understand. Two or Three in one game, I cannot.

Look, something else was going on there and I cannot blame the bowlers (except for Rash's Demons).

I don't think Machuga was using plastic for his spares, I thought he was using his regular ball and just flattening out the hand.  Granted I was trying to watch with two children who were very actively losing their minds in the same room.

Jeff,

The upcoming TOC @ Red Rock will be the same, the tournament will be contested on the regular house lanes, then they will utilize the VIP lanes for the telecast.  If I remember correctly the scores change dramatically for the worse the last two tournaments there.  All I can see is that it allows them to have the TV lanes set-up early for the telecast.

By the way, I will be there to watch the TOC wednesday through the ESPN telecast.

I can understand that tough pattern, strange lanes, TV lights, pressure, etc can make for iffy execution and hitting the pocket.

But the flagging of single pin spares with plastic has little to do with any of those variables.

Sure everyone misses a spare now and then but not 4 single pins in one show.

Other than maybe Kelly Coffman throwing at 10 pins .
