Earl Anthony Oil Pattern

Does anyone have any info on the Earl Anthony Oil pattern. Below is all that I could find.. looks like they just changed it the other day to add some info.. It used to just say 40 foot and the first sentence.  Is there a flyer on it that shows the oil or ways to play like the other PBA animal patterns ?? For the people that have bowled on it .. what ball/surface have you had success with.. how did you attack the pattern ??

"The Earl Anthony Pattern places a premium on execution and repetition, qualities which Earl Anthony exemplified. This 40 foot pattern has a unique design in which the oil widens, as opposed to narrows, down the lane. The unusual placement of widening oil down the lane will force players to make premium shots from a variety of angles. As the pattern breaks down, look for players to make unique moves and precision shots, ala Earl Anthony."

well lets see... It was used twice on the PBA tour in 2009, it was won both times by Wes Malott... what a surprise there lol

Check out the videos on youtube that "djrickysmith" posted of those 2 tour stops and look to see the lines being played and what the lanes are doing. That is the best i can think of if no one is able to give you some useful advice on lane play from experience on the pattern.

thanks for the youtube tip.. I should have thought of that.. from the videos I saw it looks like you want to be at around the 9 board at the end of the pattern, like the formula suggests.. looks like there are multiple ways to get there though..
I'll be bowling on it this weekend.. I'm up for the challenge..

Pattern Length – 31

40 ft pattern. - 31.. = 9 board..
that's where it seems most people were when there ball made a move to the pocket....

I've heard this formula.  It may sound strange, but I've seen this holds true to what I've bowled on recently(Scorpion, Chameleon, Viper, Cheetah).  I would have to assume that it would apply to all the patterns.

Now, how you get there, of course is indictative to your bowling style.

We just finished with the Earl 2 wks ago on our pba league.We had the Earl on the left an the cheetha on the right.It was alot of fun with those two patterns.I played the lanes the same,just used 2 differant balls.Our Earl pattern plays loong.I had a brake point target at 5 on both lanes.I just used weak balls w/polish on the cheetha an a dimension( 5"x5" pin under fingers)an a sure strike( 1:30 drill),both balls worked really well an gave me great looks to the pocket

p.s. both balls on Earl pattern were at 4000abr.

It does seem to work... atleast to get you in the right breakpoint area.

we bowled on the Earl Anthony pattern for a no-tap tourney.. it was tough.. it was the lowest series to qualify ever in the history of this monthly tournament.
I was in the middle of the pack of 24 that qualified with a 590..no-tap..

I thought that the pattern got wider at the end of the pattern.. but someone else said that the pattern was laid down in alternating strips of oily, drier, oily, drier..
that could explain the over under everyone was seeing

Does anyone know what the pattern looks like?
