Many times I come on here and the most recent threads and it upsets me. To see the bowling community looking down and being so CRITICAL of the athletes that are out there every day. I think a lot of times we lose track of what this sport is all about. Its not about the controversy, technology, drama or conditions, its about the players and the community. But more importantly its about the passion and emotion.
Thats what makes this game so real to me.
I don't tune in every Sunday to see the newest equipment be thrown or the power players to hook the lane, but instead to see the emotions. To watch a new comer try to beat the odds, or see a hall of famer come through, maybe for the last time. But most importantly, to see their love and passion for the game. To see them celebrate after a win, or see their defeat after a loss, it makes it real.
Its not about one player looking better than the other, or a wiffed 10 pin or a 300 on tv, but instead see them express time and again their love and passion for the game. They don't do it for the money, because lets face it, if they wanted money, they chose the WRONG sport to do. Last place in the US Open in Golf is around the area $170,000 to WIN the bowling US Open is barely HALF that.
So remember, next time you want to criticize them for their flaws, try to think instead of what they bring to the game. We have all, at one time or another, dreamed about winning on bowling biggest stage. They are no different then you and me, and if you go on to be on a televised event, you don't want people to smack you around on a forum behind your back... would you?
Anyway, in honor of these guys I put some of my favorite clips into a video. Some great breaks, some heart breaks, but the emotion... is all the same.
Enjoy.
