What pro would you fear?
« on: February 23, 2006, 07:29:09 AM »
What current pro would you fear the most during some late night pot games for a lot of money? Keep in mind the alley just put out a fresh pattern for you guys to square off.

Here is my top 5 that I would fear the most.
1.Norm Duke just a great versatile player when he's on give it up.

2.Chris Barnes this guy is just plain great.

3.Robert Smith because not only is he a great player but I wouldn't be able to concentrate because I would be too focused on watching him rip the cover off the ball.

4.Walter Ray, well because he's Walter Ray.

5.Dave Traber because if the lanes suit his style he will crush you.  The guy is automatic when he on.

The one throw back pro I would fear is the late great Earl Anthoney!  Perfection.

1. Tommy Jones
2. Norm Duke
3. Jason Couch
4. Patrick Allen
5. Robert Smith

If it was pot games on a fresh condition with any of the above, I think I'd have to shoot 300 just to split the pot.

Throwback: Bob Learn, Jr. When dialed in, that guy could string strikes better than anyone in history.

I'm not going to give a top five. In a hypothetical situation I'm going to say I'm too scared to even think about bowling a pro for money because they would win pretty much all the time on a house shot. On a tougher condition, I would say they have a 70% chance of winning. There is a reason they are the pro's, and that reason is that they will win and win a lot. Just my opinion.

Pretty much any of them would rip most of this board a new one.

I don't pot bowl, but if I did I wouldn't want to be matched up opposite Weber, Rudy, Traber, Learn, Ballard, and particularly if he was still alive, Earl Anthony. I'm sure there are a lot of the younger ones that are just as tough, but all those I listed besides Rudy have the steely demeanor that makes a good pot bowler, and in Rudy's case, I've heard people say about him that he just really does well in a pot-bowling environment.

If you guys view the stats of current PBA tournaments, the only guy I'd want to bowl with is the one who is the bottom averaging around 155...on the same pattern...then it comes down to who makes less mistakes....I think I could handle that

I highly doubt ne one on this site, no matter how good they claim to be could even come close on any shot against one of the exempt pro's.

Although if it were $5 a game and totals....I'd do it just for the experience

I have bowled an exempt bowler Billy O'neill he's in my scratch league...um when he's close to home.... Yes, he is awesome but, he as well as anyone on any given day can be beaten.I bowl pot games all of the time. I have seen awesome bowlers not carry and lousy bowlers get lucky and win. I don't fear any bowlers but, I used to get a little intimidated bowling against them. However, after beating them it's all a respect thing now.

I bowl regularly with an amateur who placed 59th at the recent US Open, ahead of many, many quality professional bowlers.  However, last night, he proved on a fresh shot that he was human after all with a 640 series.  I shot on the pair next to him and shot 670.  No comparison is implied, as I know I would get my salad tossed 99 times out of 100.  But, I brought that up just to show that no one is infallible.  If anyone is in doubt, please find some video footage of the 1980 US Hockey team, Buster Douglas, Larry Mize, and others I am sure I am omitting, who, on a given day, went out and beat someone they had no business beating.  So, you never know.

That being said, the five I would not like to bowl are:
1)  Ryan Shafer
2)  Patrick Allen
3)  Dave D'Entremont
4)  Mika Koivuniemi
5)  Dave Traber

I have a very good mental approach to bowling, but the dislike I have for these players (and I have no idea where my dislike comes from, BTW), I fear, would overtake my entire thought process and I would probably fall apart in no time at all.
