Barnes-Big Shot?
« on: February 04, 2007, 05:25:46 AM »
I guess even a ball called "Big Shot" can't help Chris Barnes in the Championship Match.  He could be one of the best ever if he decides to get some help with his mental game.  I personally can't stand Barnes.  Just seems too cocky, especially for someone that chokes all the time.

Barnes is a great bowler.  Watching him from the first match to the championship, that ball started doing some squirrely things.  Oh well....

Yeah I was impressed with the ball but Chris wasn't making quick enough adjustments in the last game he just kinda stood there and got his beat off a wall there the last five frames. I belive he needs to work on keeping his head in it longer, I mean crap he bowled incredible the first match then he shot terrible the last 5 frames of the champoinship when he balked that shot is when is problems started, Maybe to much thinking going on in that head of his

Hmmm...are we to believe that the "perfect ball" for the TV show just happens to be the sponsor's latest release ala Barnes/Big Shot and Angelo/TI?

It seems like if the pro could reach into the bag and select the ball they really want - whether it was a release from 6 months or 1 year ago, there may be less chance of a meltdown like we've seen recently.

I could be wrong about this - how about it pro's or those who work closely with the pro's - what kind of pressure is being applied to use the latest ball release?

2 different ones actually. Went to a Rico style one later with the pin in the center of grip.

Well when a company releases a ball, there is probably a little pressure to drill a few of them to hope that a few work for you and you are able to throw it on TV. The incentives are probably a little better, I know they use to be back in the day. I am not sure now that they have gone to the exempt tour. But it is still the bowlers choice! Chris looked pretty confident with that ball. He did change to a different one on the left lane, I am not sure I agree with that change. It is drilled to start up a bit earlier than the other one. But I guess if he threw it good those few shots he missed, he might of won?!!?!

I was shocked to see Mika stick with the what we assume to be a Smokin' Inferno  I thought wow they came with a new release no one has mentioned on br.com.  He didn't have the best look, and didn't get very good carry in the first game, so I figured he would throw something different in the championship match.

Of course I am not a pro, and he is, and sticking with it and staying clean with it paid off in the end.

Congrats Mika.
