Ok everyone, with the PBA season starting Tuesday, what bowler do you think will have a massive year and win bowler of the year? Also what bowler do you think my take a big step backwards and have the
worst year of their career? Is their a bowler that you think may lose their exempting after being on tour
for more than five years?
Tommy Jones -POY
Walter Ray Williams-Backwards
Mike Edwards or Jason Couch-Losing Exemption
-
I have to disagree on the Jason couch thing
he was really starting to hit his stride late last year, and getting used to his new knee. I look for him to make at least 4 shows this season and at least one title. He is way too good and way too much of a competitor to sit on the sidelines. Plus he is really the only lefty I really like.
Lochetter could have a break out year, Fagan could also. It would be nice to see TJ return to winning form.
can't count out Chris Barnes or Wes for POY
they are both on top of their game

I agree with what most have said.
I also have a surprise or two lol.
POY - Bill O'Neill (Im thinking three titles maybe even a major.)
Step Back - I dont know of anybody here cause I see maybe a few players not doing the same as last year such as Scroggins but it doesnt mean they take a step back in a sense. Hard to have as good a year as before when you win the US Open.
Losing Exemtion - Jurek or Kent. Both probably need to get off to hot starts to keep there mind in it since they both have such successful lives away from the tour.
-
I'm a lefty-hater from way back, but I've gained a lot of respect for P.A. He's surprisingly versatile and you can't question his intensity. Could see him win POY.
-
POY: Wes Malott
Backwards: Bill O'Neill
Loses Exemption: Danny Wiseman, but I really hope not.

Might be closer than you think. He really has been contemplating retiring from full time touring and just bowl Tourneys close to Baltimore and the Majors.

If Rhino Page can keep to a strict training regimen and keep his emotions in check, I think he has a good chance at POY. He might just be the new PDW...he sure has the fire.
Despite his domination of the King of Bowling, I see Wes Malott sliding backwards to just really good...kind of like he was in the late part of last season.
I hate to see anybody lose an exemption, but I'm concerned about Steve Jaros. Seems like father time is bound to catch him one of these years.
-
^^^ they have no faith. lmao
i think this may just be the 2handers year to break out... (belmonte and cassdiy schaub)
-
POY - Jason Belmonte
Backwards - Pete Weber
Lose exemption - Danny Wiseman
Will make a show - Nate bohr, Ed VanDaniker
--------------------
A half ten is not a great shot. No, you shouldn't have carried it.
-
Haha, here's one for you.
POY - Wes Malott
Backwards - Yes, Wes Malott
Loses exemption - Kretzer
Face it, Wes had a ridiculous year last year. Barring any crazy run by anybody else, Wes could take a step back and still win POY. He can't really improve on last year, can he?

here is something no one else has mentioned. what if norm duke were to go all year without being hampered by the physical ailments he has suffered the last 2-3 seasons. your player of the year race would already be decided.
-
Yup, Father Time catches us all eventually. IF Norm Duke can stay healthy and bowl up to his capability,POY would be a shoo-in.But another year like that or even more/worse injuries, and you might be looking at Norms' swan song...

POY = Jason Couch / Robert smith because i think the patterns this season will lend themselves to power (e.g. the scorpion is much slicker and robert smith has the mixture of insane revs and rotation which gives room on scorpion) and maximum bob is the king of power and jason couch can then dominate his side of the lane. also robert and jason are now coming off their injuries with confidence.
big step back - danny wiseman because he is running a huge event streak without a title and he has practically lost all his confidence.
losing exemption - ryan shafer
-
I have been going with Tommy Jones since 2004 and this time I am not. I don't think he has lost it at all but it is obvious he is not the same consistent bowler he was. This is what I was afraid of potentially being a power player and how long it could last. Obviously not old or done at all and hopefully I am wrong because he is one of my favorite to watch.
These things are hard to predict. So I'm going with a random and outside pick and going with Michael Machuga. I think he has all the tools and think this will be his breakout season.
-
POY: Chris Barnes
Loses exemption: Nathan Bohr, Michael Haugen
--------------------
-
Walter Ray Williams-Backwards? No way !!
POY- Norm Duke.
-
Carl Sagan, walter is #1 seed for the finals in the first tournament and made the round of 16 in the second and lost to duke in 7 games. i dont think hes finished.

What do all the crystal balls say about PBIII? He had a big slide at the end of last season and didn't start off too hot. Potentially going down hill?
