i just want to know what has impressed you when it comes to the pba whether it be someones major win that sticks in your mind or the consistency of a player without ever winning.
what has impressed you?
-
ill start it off with chris barnes.
he has made over $100,000 for 10 years strait (since 1999) and 4 or more tv shows in those years.
-
What amazes me is the lack of success by Chris Loschetter. Very nice guy and great bowler but can't seem to get over the hump. One thing that amazed me last year was Bill O'Neill not winning once. I think he's winning a title or two this year.

i second all of what you've just said.
loschetter gets better and better with a runner up finnish in a major and another major appearance on tv how he has not won yet is beyond me.
Bill O'Neill all i can say is wow one of the best on tour right now alongside mike fagan they are great bowlers and deserve wins more than pretty much anyone.

What amazes me is the prize money is the same as it was the 1990's.. The PBA needs to find a better sponsor that will put more prize money into the pot. I know thats hard to do in this day and age.
Look at what the PGA and Tennis pay for tournament wins. $25K for winning a title is not very good for a sport thats been around as long as the PBA has.
Hopefully it will get better one day.

My first child.. Hannah Allison Kiser born 4/30/2007... My little angel..
Roto Grip.. King of Them All!!
Storm ain't so bad either!! LOL
-
That people would actually choose to watch it over the NFL on Sundays. That's what a DVR is for.

Me stupid. Me believe anything. Please tell me what to do.

Not sure how many of you have seen the regionals on bowlspot.com ..
but
Jeff Carter looks as though he loses focuse when he makes a bad shot or gets robbed and his opponent strings a few strikes together, then its down hill from there....
I cant really say much tho he bowls for a living and i am just a hack and do it for leage and a few tournnaments here and there..
Do think he needs to regain focuse and not try to knock it out of the park..
-
What amazes me about the PBA???? Same thing that jkiser brought up. The $$$
is just so low. We talk about how impressive it is that Chris Barnes has won
100k for several yrs in a row. He's one of the top 3-4 bowlers in the world and it takes him a yr to win what a guy coming in 15th place wins in one PGA event.
Where are the sponsors????

Unfortunately, bowling is the Rodney Dangerfield of sports—it gets no respect.
Hopefully someone will come along with personality and incomparable talent, who'll have the ability to win at least 5 tourneys per year, set all kinds of scoring records, really pushes the sport when it comes to interviews, is so well-liked and personable that late night talk shows will be inviting him on all the time, and ESPN (and all other sports related channels) will be constantly highlighting his feats and accomplishments.
It’s a real tall order, but bowling needs a savior before it's too late.

That" MAXIMUM BOB "does not have more titles than he does.I know the injuries have held him back.I just
want to see a healthy Robert Smith.
-
Jack Jurek good bowler and a great guy. Wish he had more titles! But he is bowling very good this year! Maybe this is the year he gets his 2nd title!

we all know Jeff can bowl its undeniable he averaged 261 in a league year and alot of perfect games. its just finnishing up on tv.
-
That they go head to head with the NFL every Sunday yet wonder why they can't get big sponsors. As long as there is no money in it for the sponsors, their will not be money in it for the bowlers.

What amazes me is that it still exists. It was founded in 1958, when bowling was in its heyday, and continued to grow through the 1980's, during the time of the highest A.B.C. membership.
Sadly, it seems as though the P.B.A. has been on the same steady decline as the A.B.C./U.S.B.C. memberships. When you have the three largest, professional entities struggling for survival, memberships falling, and sponsors bailing out, it doesn't look good.
What would even amaze me more would be if they find a way to survive for much longer. Bowling used to be an amazing sport that required great talent that could be appreciated. Now almost anybody can hook a ball and average more than the greats of yesterday. How are we supposed to admire people whose achievments are so easily surpassed?

i think if they had a few sections where it was a bit more of a gimmick, for instance of it was motel 6 sponsoring they could do a small section on who was staying in which hotel and show how great the hotel was. don't make it like when they get 6 strikes in a row they have to shout something about motel 6 or something just add a few sections about their sponsors and they may get some more sponsors in.
and changing when it's on would be a good choice as they lose alot of possible viewers that are watching NFL.
-
Perhaps someone could get Bill Gates, or Paul Allen into bowling - now there would be some sponsors

Okay, I'll get serious: The thing that amazes me most about the PBA is the amount of equipment they let the guys bring to a tournament. It is like a golfer showing up to play with a "Rodney Dangerfield bag", with a 100 clubs in it.

Bill O' Neill amazes me, consistently making shows or getting close. At least last year, not sure about this year yet.
Norm Duke amazes by what he can do with a ball.
It also amazes me that some people gave up throwing Storm and/or Roto Grip to throw another company(ies).

I'm impressed they can still afford to air on EPSN.
-
What's amazing to me is just how much better WRW, and Norm Duke are compared to the rest of the field.
Lets face it, all of the PBA players are very strong bowlers but the two above are so dam good its sick!
-
Chris Barnes.

You've gotta add Chris Barnes to that list.

I agree with Strike Domination. Norm Duke is not much better than everyone else. Especailly not so far this year. Right now Barnes is bowling much better than Norm.
-
yeah chris barnes is one of the best and no doubt a future hall of famer. As Patrick Allen said "if Chris Barnes could get it off his hand on sundays he would win every week". maybe not every week but at least 3 or 4 times every season, and thats when he isn't "hot". he is the most versatile and such a technician. didn't fail to cash in 08-09 season. he just needs to get over the opens in 1 game elimination match ups (tv day), he knows he can lose a game during matchplay and gets over it and comes back.

i like the video on bowl spot where he sticks then kicks the foul light and breaks it... you see him pick something up off the lane and put it back on the foul light!!
-
What amazes me about the PBA is just how good these guys really are.
The regional players are good. No question. They can mop the floor with me any day, all day long. But the national exempt players - almost every one of them - can own just about anyone on the lanes.
Truly amazing.
