Title: why no hate for PA now
Post by: triggerman on October 28, 2007, 11:53:37 PM
ok so did no one hear the "your ball will be right back" when PA wrapped a 7 pin, and then his comment of  "at least I pick up my spares" after making it?  is this not just as bad as Scroggs comment a few back about bowling like a league bowler?  Scroggs gets the hate but PA gets a pass?  Discuss!

Trigg, if I'm not mistaken, it's been said on here that PA was making a jab back at some hecklers in the crowd at Miller Park.

I heard him yell "at least I pick up my spares", but didn't hear the fan's comment before hand.  I wondered why he yelled into the crowd.  I never cared for PA for some reason, but he seeemed extra pissy for yesterday's telecast.

oh no he was heckled but it was once again a pro bowler taking a jab at league hacks much like scroggs did with his "league bowler" comment, so I ask again, why no public outcry over comments directed at league bowlers

What PA said was not directed to a large population.  It was directed at one person and it was not degrading to a large section of bowling community.  I bet most of us on here have made that comeback to someone over the last couple of years.  I know I have a few times when someone is trying to get me out of my game.  It tends to quiet them up for a while.  I got a good laugh on this one.

PA annoys me with all of his mumbling while he is bowling but that is just a personal thing.

I do think that when he said "Pure, bro!" when he threw his ball is the funniest thing I have ever heard.  I am going to be stealing that and getting rid of the old squeaky annoying voiced YEAH THATS RIGHT or YEAH BABY YEAH you hear from TJ and Rash.

Pure BRO!

Oh and I missed two easy spares last night so I figure they've earned the right to point out that they can make all their spares.

They are both wrongsiders and can't burn in a shot by themselves.  You learn to keep your mouth shut when a "professional" and suck it up.  This is not a comedy show with hecklers in the crowd <plants> ala Don Rickles.

Fans can be better behaved.

as stated before, it was a jab back at some asshat comment made from the stands..saw nothing wrong for this because it wasn't taken as something that he might say in his head every time he makes a mistake...

What Scroggs said was something that he probably thinks from time to time when he makes a mistake on the lane...

Yeah, I appreciate that he is different even if I don't like his act.  One thing that the bowlers need to realize is that when they are rambling and mumbling and making comments at random times sometimes the announcers are talking over them and it's hard to even make out what they are saying.

Remember, you're talking about a city where you can buy beer at the zoo and walk around with it outdoors when it's rather nippy.

Pfft, bears in Wisconsin zoos are weened from their mothers with warm MGD and fresh cheddar so they grow up tough enough to trash talk on TV (had to say something to keep this semi on-topic).

What's wrong with a little personality in bowling?  We're trying to bring people in to our sport and if anyone has been paying attention they would see this is a trash talking, chest pumping, look at me cruel world out there.  Wake up and lose your morals or you'll be left in the dust. We don't have to like it, but we need this in bowling. How popular would comic books, movies, reality T.V. etc. be without a villan? I've been saying for a long time that bowling needs a bad boy in the national spotlight. It worked for Dennis Rodman and the NBA.  PA isn't the answer, but I find him refreshing ( although annoying). Taking applications on the villan if interested.

I did like the little bit of "talk" on TV...

I also thought that bowling was supposed to be fun.  I get into having fun in leagues, whether it's a pump of the first or talking to the ball as it travels down the lane ("hold", "move it", or whatever).  When you cover a 6-7-10 (4-7-10 for you lefties), you're just going to be quiet?

You should have seen me when I shot my (okay, it was unsanctioned) 300.  My wife and step kids said I acted like a little kid.  Maybe that's what the sport needs. It is a game after all...

It was directed at one person over a general comment like Mike's was. But the main reason I feel is that a lot of people find Sgroggins look and game not very appealing even though he could probably kick most of our butts out on the lanes with that "ugly" game. So the truth tends to hurt the thin skinned.

The problem that i have is that fans base their opinions of people on what they see during the telecasts. Keep in mind that these guys are WORKING. This isnt baseball, basketball or football with guaranteed contracts. If we dont bowl well, we dont get paid ( even the exempt stops only guarantee us a $500 per week profit ). If you knew PA off the lanes, i guarantee that most of you would find him very funny and light-hearted...not to mention very humble. PA is a good guy, just misunderstood sometimes.

As far as the fans comment goes, i think you'll be seeing more of that than ever....due to the fact that its commonplace in every other sport and its starting to find its way into bowling

Give these guys a break....if somebody got a first impression of you based on a stressful day at work, how good would that impression be ?

I'm with Jeff here. I have met PA a bunch of times when he bowls the pro ams up here in NH and he is a nice guy to talk to and has a joking personality. What you see on TV is a guy trying to get the crowd into it, which he dose ans also to try and get in his opponents head, which more often than not that I have seen, it works. I may be wrong on this but dont most people want to bowl well when they do bowl? I know I do and geting excited and slapping out shots and yelling at the pins is somthing that I see almost every bowler do and it's all from the excitment of trying to win. So I do see where PA gets it from and when you have some @ssholes in the crowd yelling crap at you then it dose get frustrating. But even after all of that, PA was still a good sport about the match, which I cannot say about alot of the people I have seen and bowled with.

In the ideal situation, most people would have preferred that P.A. just ignore the heckler.  Sometimes that doesn't happen so we all draw our conclusions about the guy, which can be incorrect.

My biggest problem was when he said "thanks for letting me throw your ball B.G." and it seemed less than sincere.  When he threw it well, it was fine ("Pure Bro.").  When he threw a few errant shots and left the washouts, it sounded like he was blaming the ball instead of the bowler throwing it.

Now if it was a joke between him and B.G., then hopefully there are no hard feelings.  To me, it was a slam against a ball that probably set sales records for Hammer last year.  If you throw a bad shot, accept responsibility for it instead of blaming the ball.  That's my only concern with things as they went for P.A.

Jeff,

Most of us know where you are coming from and nothing is guaranteed like team sports.

IMO...you guys project a "professional" image <ie. many you tour players sitting with suit and tie in front row of Japan Cup.>  BTW....Japan Cup...doubt you'd ever see any fan heckle a player in Japan.  Bowling, baseball or sumo.

Hey Jeff... Does PA mumble while he bowls during the week as well. or is this something he does to keep his head "in the game" on TV?

J Mac whatch the grind of qualifying then match play. They all mumble to themselves or get outright pissed at times. Problem is people can't place theirselves in these mens shoes. These guys have 10 times the amount of pressure in a week than we 95% of the working world. Now I'm not saying its all bad pressure or that they are performing brain surgery but the mental side of the tour is very tough to grasp. PA like Jeff said is misunderstood. He's by no means my favorite but on a more non-competing side he has always been funny as h#ll when I've talked with him or around him and some of the other guys. Remember White hat vs Black hat makes for better ratings also.

5-10% of the tour gets paid well. The rest skirt the edges and probably make less than me which is a sad amount. (Figuring in cost of expenses vs pay) Yes they chose that and most of us wish we had the talent to try it out but its not the glitz most think it is and its more grind I believe.
