why no real THS yesterday
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:12:12 AM »
why are you going to call it the "ultimate scoring championship" and say your going to put a THS out and not do it? scores on tv were the same as usual and now house hacks are thinking more than ever that there as good as they are.

Who knows how "fresh" the shot was when the semis started. A house shot can get pretty screwed up if not broken down properly. I think that is what we saw Sunday. Some shots made it look like no oob outside 5. Others missed right and washed out, due to what looked like carry down being somewhere that they did not anticipate it would be.

All and all, saying that a THS is easy is an over generalization. Some are much tougher than others, due to the volume of oil, the lane conditions, or the peculiarities of the oil machine putting them down.

If they wanted a carry fest they should of had a normal THS and Twister pins carry would had been sick. I could have seen them using that tougher one for qualifying but for show purposes the easiest THS they could find should had been laid out. I know people that dont watch the pba that watched for the scores and were disappointed.

I know these guys are pros but I wonder if the fact they qualified for the USC and then the Chameleon.. then bowled the chameleon finals and then the USC.
Atleast Oneil did.
but just having the chameleon in between and waiting the five days for the USC finals.  That could have been a reason for the poor performance.
Looked like alot of the bowlers that were struggling were too slow.

What you see on tv is not what may happen in an entire tournament and I think the pros proved a point how good these guys are on a easy condition.
With that said, the tv lights with the crowd of people can sometimes hurt the players that bowled well all week.

Put the same tournament and have the tv finals in a arena, then perhaps the scores would be 250's every game.

You don't call a tournament the "Ultimate Scoring Championship" then have guys shooting 200-210.

Every dumb house hack who watched that show just went "shoot, I knew them guys weren't all that good.  Heck, I shot 740 just last night"

I don't care about lights, practice, or plasma beams from outer space it's not hard to wall up a shot.

They should have known that laying the THS over the PBA shot was going to affect things they talk about it all the time how a shot plays differently as the week goes on and the shot gets laid down more and more.  Hello you just had four days of PBA shot and now we are going to strip once and lay down the THS.......failure.   They should have recorded the show earlier in the week.

I had a bad feeling that this was going to happen on the show.  Don't call something ultimate scoring unless you can assure that it will be ultimate scoring. You can say someone averaged 260 during the week all you want but it didn't show up on TV.

Only the Randy segment illustrated what they were trying to accomplish.

There was no way they could put out a typical house shot, because if they did and scored as they did they wouldn't have an out so they said it was something in between.

There may be a small amount of truth to what you say. I do not think that anyone is guaranteed carry on any shot, especially after its baked by lights and then broken down.

Once again the people that run the PBA show they have no clue. I have said for years, that to get people more interested, give them knowledge. Talk about the balls that are being thrown, tell me why a certain bowler is using a certain type of drilling for the condition. FEED ME KNOWLEDGE! Only when people really start understanding the game, will the interest rise.

Don't call it the Ultimate Scoring Championship and then not lay out an every house THS pattern. If you want to show viewers, or new bowlers, the difference between us and the pros, then do it. I feel that for the guy who watches and bowls all the time, this was a total failure!

Can't disagree.  I wonder how the pros feel following the results of that show.  They sat there and belittled us league hacks and then posted scores that wouldn't have won our high game/series pot tonight....lol

This was an EPIC FAIL for the PBA.  The USBC and PBA could care less about league bowlers, they only want our money.  I still have respect for the some of the bowlers, but the leadership(tom clark) of the PBA still sucks.

IMO, I wonder if the bowlers tried to fry up the track creating more bump off it and instead, burned it up so bad it was either over/under or, in alot of cases, ball dead on arrival for a flat 10 pin (just ask Bill O'Neill).  This happens almost before every telecast where the bowlers will take a sandblasted ball and play up the track area in order to try and create more miss area for the show.

Do we think it was filming two different shows on the same pair for tv or just the way the bowlers broke them down during warm ups or a combination?

Watching it again it's mildly amusing when you hear the pros go "The average bowler just needs to understand there is a difference" and then we cut back to guys going flat 10 every other shot.

Obviously, this is due to the pattern, but funny nonetheless.
