Why no talk about PA winning his 10th title yet???
« on: December 10, 2007, 05:54:10 AM »
This was the biggest thing on the show this week and all everyone is talking about is Mallot and Barnes choking, Warrens grip and that Rhino made the show. What about the fact that PA just won hid tenth title and is now eligible for the Hall of Fame? Just my opinion, but I thought more people would be talking about this. Way to go PA, I'm happy for you, and here's to another 10 more!

Doesn't Tommy Jones have 10 titles, does he make it in, I don't think so, he had a heck of a thre year run, but IMO, he needs to more over a longer period of time. Don't take it the wrong way, they are great bowlers and in time history will take care of itself.

Does what PA did yesterday give him a chance, sure it does, besides the 10 title he does have a major, and a player of the year honor.

Because I don't like him and he isn't worth mentioning about.  He is a good bowler and all but I think I would get supremely irritated if I had to bowl with him on the same pair during a tournament.  He is annoying to watch and listen to like a fart that never stops echoing.

Where is TOMMY JONES?

Would he have 10 if he were a righty? Yes, I think so. He is bar none one of the best bowlers, on either side of the lane, in the world. Ask ANYONE who knows what he/she is talking about, to analyze PA's physical game(the simplicity, versatility, and repeatability) and his mental game(keeping on top of the lanes, making GREAT shots on key moments) and you will have your answer. And no, Im not talking about all the keyboard commandos here, I mean legit coaches and real high level bowlers(NOT most of the people on this board that think they are.) I have talked to numerous coaches, and they all tend to lean towards PA as an example for the ideal non power game on EITHER side of the lane...

Thats a good point bali, he dose have one of the better games out there. Thats one of the reasons I look up to him so much. He can repeat shot after shot and he dose make very good shot in key moments. I would teach/show any of my students/customers/children his style of play.

Here's how I view it:

Patrick Allen
10 titles
1 Major
1 POY Award
Over $1,000,000 in career earnings

If he had some catastrophic career ending injury right now (which I certainly hope never happens to anyone), I would put him in the HOF based on the stats above in the timeframe it was done.

If, however, he bowls for another 10 years on tour and bowls subpar and wins no more titles, I would have to say he would not get in because he would not have that consisitency over the longer period of time to be considered with the all time greats in the HOF.

I think that realistically, as long as he bowls around 10 more years on tour (which should happen barring injury), and as long as he gets to 15 titles in that span of 10 years, or one more Major or POY award in that time frame regardless of how many titles he ends up with, he should be a lock for the HOF.  I feel that PA is one of the best bowling minds out on tour right now (even though he is quirky on TV).  If you ever get to meet him and talk with him, he is very personable and knowlegeable about the game of bowling.  I hope he gets in the HOF someday, because as a fellow lefty, I admire a lefty who is very cerebral about the game of bowling and leaves it all out there every time out.  Just my .02.

Yes, I believe he would have. The left side is'ent as easy as everyone makes it out be be. There are plenty of weeks that the lefties are completly shut out. Look at this season for example, he is the first lefty to win and also is the higest lefty in points. There are not many other lefties in the top 40 right now, only 3 others besides PA.

This isnt true... Rhino Page is up there in rankings, and he is a lefty... not even exempt either

Well, it's a shame we just can't turn all pro bowlers into robots or cyborgs or something, because then all you crybabies wouldn't have to whine about how traumatic it is that you have to be subjected to watching the human beings on the lanes being HUMAN...of course, then you'd be whining that the sport was missing emotion, passion,  and the human element...

Well your comments were at least tongue-in-cheek, unlike some of these others, from whose reactions you would surmise that the end of Western Civilization was at hand because Patrick Allen did a goofy clap...

Who said it was the end of the world?  It was just a really big event for the PBA and the end came of as kind of embarrassing to me.  Maybe others feel that way, I don't know.  Just sharing a personal opinion on the way the show came off to me.  Some people can't stand watching WRW bowl but I just take their opinion for what it is and agree to disagree.  Every viewer has their own preferences, right?

That said, I never said I don't like watching the guys get emotional, freak out, talk smack or whatever it's just some of them have that natural charisma about it and some don't.

For the second time, now, I wasn't referring to YOU, FluffE...I'm talking about some of the others who clearly take bowling (and themselves) a little too seriously...

Not to change the subject but I just saw this on PBA.com and thought of this thread:

Poll Results
Is Patrick Allen's resume PBA Hall of Fame worthy?
Yes       44%
No       56%
Total Number of votes:   4081

Just thought it was relevant since people were discussing that.

Funny how people complain that the PBA is just so boring to watch on TV, but then someone like PA comes along and actually livens things up, and gets blasted for showing his emotions.

I enjoy watching him, he IS genuine.

I do very much believe PA deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Reason PA doesn't have more titles is simply because he joined the professional ranks at a slightly advanced age; prior to that he was a top notch amateur bowler, competing and doing quite well in many amateur tournaments around the country (not to mention some action bowling).

I remember seeing him at a scratch tournament in Staten Island around the end of the 1980's, and his game was effortless, smooth, and sweet.

It is not a surprise to me that he has been able to adjust at the professional level (has been turning it on now for the last 5 years after "learning" the different conditions), and I would be very surprised if he didn't win a bunch more titles before he retires, making the argument of whether or not he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame a moot point.
