This was the biggest thing on the show this week and all everyone is talking about is Mallot and Barnes choking, Warrens grip and that Rhino made the show. What about the fact that PA just won hid tenth title and is now eligible for the Hall of Fame? Just my opinion, but I thought more people would be talking about this. Way to go PA, I'm happy for you, and here's to another 10 more!

Q: Why no talk about PA and his 10th win?
A: Because that slap out on his first shot in the 10th was unbearably caucasoid and horrific.

I mentioned that he sounded like Howard Dean when he won... Does that count?

Yeah that about sums it up. I hope a bunch of new viewers because of the time slot weren't laughing their arses off or scratching their heads after that one.
I watch bowling and that guy's reactions confuse me.

Yeah, he almost missed his own hand. That would have been a major ouch!! I wouldn't necessarily put this one up there with Carl Lewis trying to sing the national anthem, but it's close.

Congrats PA! He used to bowl around here (where I live) so I don't think his actions are odd. I'm kinda used to it.

That would have been epic. I just hope someone was flipping through the channels and caught PA going into a complete freakout. I hope it scared a few children before going to bed.

I've met him a bunch of times and he is a great guy and very funny. He dose have a different persona on the lanes but dont we all?? Thats no reason to hate on him. He is a great bowler, lefty or not, and I think its just about every bowlers drean to win 10 titles and make it into the Hall of Fame, I know its one of mine. But everyone has their own opinions and I'm sticking to mine, way to go PA!!
--------------------
Ebonite - "Bowl to Win!"

No hate here, I think he it interesting to listen to him talk to himself before he shoots the ball. I am not a big fan of him or Malott, but I was hoping he would win because he will at least say some weird crap on TV. I wasn't expecting the bizarre reaction at the end though.

Well, if you look at it this way, that shot put him in the HOF. Of course your reaction is going to be weird because your mind is racing because of whats going on. Think about it, how clear was your head when you shot your first 300/800? I know mine was fuzzy during and after the fact, somewhat of a state of shock I gues you could put it. And I imagine thats how PA was feeling as well as relieved and extreme happiness. Thats a huge thing in someones career.

Yes, I believe he would have. The left side is'ent as easy as everyone makes it out be be. There are plenty of weeks that the lefties are completly shut out. Look at this season for example, he is the first lefty to win and also is the higest lefty in points. There are not many other lefties in the top 40 right now, only 3 others besides PA.

You guys are all insane and so ridiculous.
1. He's not righty.
2. Biggest shot of his career, he deserves to be happy and slap it out.
3. Why does it matter so much when lefties or righties win/shutout? You create your own breaks and any one of the 150 or so that try every week could win any week. Get off PA, he's happy, rightfully so for the biggest shot/tourney/game of his career
Doesnt matter to me if lefties or righties win. In my opinion I just dont think he would be as successful on the right side.

Of course, and you know they want these guys to be themselves out there on the lanes.
My question is: Is slapping it out (or whatever it's called) supposed to look cool? Every time I see someone do it... It doesn't quite work out.

You might be able to argue that he should not be in the HoF if he retired tomorrow. Lots of folks with 10 titles, after all. It is a definite achievement, but perhaps not worthy of being called the cream of the cream of the crop. He's been a top-10 player for only a few years, he doesn't have the history of being a big name like most of the HoF does. In that sense, maybe putting him in the HoF is premature.
But PA is only in his mid-30s, barring injury he's probably got another 10 years left in him. I'll be surprised if he doesn't pick up another 5-7 titles in that time. He hits 15 titles and starts brushing the $1.5M mark, you might could wonder why he isn't in the HoF. That's a much higher level of performance over a longer period of time and makes it almost a no-brainer to HoF him.
I'd kinda like to see a point system instead of the hard criteria they have now. 1 point for a standard title, three or four points for a major title. A point for, say, a 300 on TV or ## TV appearances. 5 points for a 20-year career. A couple of points for each million in career earnings. A point for a worthwhile record that stands for more than X years. You want to be eligible for the HoF, you need 30 points. The guy who gets red-hot for two or three years but quits or gets hit by a but might not get in. No way to know if his performance was really sustainable. The guy who spends 30 years on the tour, wins every couple of years, makes a few shows every year, and stands the test of time, he gets in.

I didn't say anything about him winning his 10th title because I think the guy's a douche bag. I don't like his attitude or what he does on TV. He's an adult and he acts like he's 12 on TV. That's why I don't like him. I thought bowling was better off without him on TV.

I'd bet PA would have more then 10 titles if he was right handed. He's one of the best in the world, and if he was right handed he wouldn't have to worry about the left side being shut out. Hell 95% of the time the left side has a shot he makes the show.

If his passion for BEER continues/equals that of bowling, he'll make the HoF without question!!! Next trophy should be a Bar Stool! ...
BTW, very good bowler!

Wow, for once I have to agree with you on something. I know he referred to winning his 10th but not sure what he was screaming down at the pins after that shot. Something out of his hands or someone that's been doubting him's hands, couldn't quite tell who the comment was meant for cuz he wasn't facing the camera. Wes Malott even looked bewildered.

The reason no one is talking about his title is because he is not well liked by fans that haven't met him (which would be most in this forum). He could very well be a great guy off the lanes but his act on TV rubs to many people the wrong way. BUT, if it works for him and he can win ten more titles doing it then he should continue to be himself. Just don't expect people to go crazy over him winning.
-
I don't care for him either. Bizzare dude. My 7 yr old son was even asking me what was his problem? I had no answer for him. I like it when guy's have some fire but please show some class (win or lose). Big Wes did look pretty confused watching P.A.'s antics. Just my opinion...

There's always' hope as long as there is one more ball in the bag!

Doesn't Tommy Jones have 10 titles, does he make it in, I don't think so, he had a heck of a thre year run, but IMO, he needs to more over a longer period of time. Don't take it the wrong way, they are great bowlers and in time history will take care of itself.
Does what PA did yesterday give him a chance, sure it does, besides the 10 title he does have a major, and a player of the year honor.

Because I don't like him and he isn't worth mentioning about. He is a good bowler and all but I think I would get supremely irritated if I had to bowl with him on the same pair during a tournament. He is annoying to watch and listen to like a fart that never stops echoing.

Would he have 10 if he were a righty? Yes, I think so. He is bar none one of the best bowlers, on either side of the lane, in the world. Ask ANYONE who knows what he/she is talking about, to analyze PA's physical game(the simplicity, versatility, and repeatability) and his mental game(keeping on top of the lanes, making GREAT shots on key moments) and you will have your answer. And no, Im not talking about all the keyboard commandos here, I mean legit coaches and real high level bowlers(NOT most of the people on this board that think they are.) I have talked to numerous coaches, and they all tend to lean towards PA as an example for the ideal non power game on EITHER side of the lane...
-
Thats a good point bali, he dose have one of the better games out there. Thats one of the reasons I look up to him so much. He can repeat shot after shot and he dose make very good shot in key moments. I would teach/show any of my students/customers/children his style of play.

Here's how I view it:
Patrick Allen
10 titles
1 Major
1 POY Award
Over $1,000,000 in career earnings
If he had some catastrophic career ending injury right now (which I certainly hope never happens to anyone), I would put him in the HOF based on the stats above in the timeframe it was done.
If, however, he bowls for another 10 years on tour and bowls subpar and wins no more titles, I would have to say he would not get in because he would not have that consisitency over the longer period of time to be considered with the all time greats in the HOF.
I think that realistically, as long as he bowls around 10 more years on tour (which should happen barring injury), and as long as he gets to 15 titles in that span of 10 years, or one more Major or POY award in that time frame regardless of how many titles he ends up with, he should be a lock for the HOF. I feel that PA is one of the best bowling minds out on tour right now (even though he is quirky on TV). If you ever get to meet him and talk with him, he is very personable and knowlegeable about the game of bowling. I hope he gets in the HOF someday, because as a fellow lefty, I admire a lefty who is very cerebral about the game of bowling and leaves it all out there every time out. Just my .02.

Well, it's a shame we just can't turn all pro bowlers into robots or cyborgs or something, because then all you crybabies wouldn't have to whine about how traumatic it is that you have to be subjected to watching the human beings on the lanes being HUMAN...of course, then you'd be whining that the sport was missing emotion, passion, and the human element...

Who said it was the end of the world? It was just a really big event for the PBA and the end came of as kind of embarrassing to me. Maybe others feel that way, I don't know. Just sharing a personal opinion on the way the show came off to me. Some people can't stand watching WRW bowl but I just take their opinion for what it is and agree to disagree. Every viewer has their own preferences, right?
That said, I never said I don't like watching the guys get emotional, freak out, talk smack or whatever it's just some of them have that natural charisma about it and some don't.

Not to change the subject but I just saw this on PBA.com and thought of this thread:
Poll Results
Is Patrick Allen's resume PBA Hall of Fame worthy?
Yes 44%
No 56%
Total Number of votes: 4081
Just thought it was relevant since people were discussing that.

Funny how people complain that the PBA is just so boring to watch on TV, but then someone like PA comes along and actually livens things up, and gets blasted for showing his emotions.
I enjoy watching him, he IS genuine.
I do very much believe PA deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
Reason PA doesn't have more titles is simply because he joined the professional ranks at a slightly advanced age; prior to that he was a top notch amateur bowler, competing and doing quite well in many amateur tournaments around the country (not to mention some action bowling).
I remember seeing him at a scratch tournament in Staten Island around the end of the 1980's, and his game was effortless, smooth, and sweet.
It is not a surprise to me that he has been able to adjust at the professional level (has been turning it on now for the last 5 years after "learning" the different conditions), and I would be very surprised if he didn't win a bunch more titles before he retires, making the argument of whether or not he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame a moot point.

It looks to me like you get in the Hall Of Fame for longevity of excellence so I think PA has some time to go before he's even considered. If he can keep up this pace he will make it easy.
