Perfect power?
« on: March 20, 2006, 10:10:45 AM »
When I talk to other bowlers they often talk about power in terms of revs.

Ie someone would say for example....Chris Barnes is a powerful bowler!  Say 425 rpms(my guess).  Someone else would say Robert Smith is a powerful bowler(say 550  to 600 rpms).
Others who saw him would say Jimmy Keeth(rip) was a very powerful bowler(say 700 rpm).

Yet when I think of perfect power in bowling I think of Walter Ray near the end of his game this week driving the ball so hard and straight to the break pointas he did on the show this week until he tossed a weak pull to the left!  As we say in some other games...blub blub!

To me....that's power the ability to drive the ball ....hard level and straight or close to straight to the break point.  Mika's got it!  Patrick Allen at his free armswinging best is fantastic atthsi .

Dave Davis th espeedy and elegant lefty who can drive it down the lane with no apparant efffort at near 19 mph at the pin deck has power of this kind in spades!

Randy Pederson at his level best throwing 10 or so years ago...now there is a man with Power!!!

REgards,

PS what do you think power is?
PPS do you think that Chris BArnes when dropping it into follow line with his 425 to 450 revs....is powerful???

PS bowled with Jimmy Keeth for a year in league next to 500 rpm guys...they looked like they were in neutral!

I'm sorry lucky but making 500 rpm guys look like they were nuetral?  I doubt that.  I'm not saying he doesn't have a high rev release but come on.  I wish someone would post a vid of this guy throwing  high revs.  The vid that was posted on here was not huge above normal revs.

depends on ball speed???  If it is faster more revs...if slower less revs.

However if near 15 mph it is near 500 rpms...if near 19 mph at pins it is about 700.

Just off the top of my head.

However...we are off subject...my point is that Walter Ray and Mika have more of what I call bowling power than anybody!

My contention...revs are not the answer!  To the question...what is bowling power!

REgards,

PS Dave Davis has it in spades....Parker Bohn has it in spades and Randy Pederson at the peak of his career had it in spades!

Well the PBA site says Smith has 27 revolutions per shot.  I know he has faster ball speed than 15mph so there it is.

Now back to your post question.  I think your correct.  Power at the pins does not come soley from revs.  From my own personaly experience I have found that when I use an end over end release from the outside playing down and in I get tramendous carry and pin action compared to playing my higher rev swing shot.

Jowdy claims that the end over end release is the best release to date.  He says that it will create the best strike percentage.  He also has stated in a few articles that he is surprised that more bowlers do not use this release.

I agree with your assesment that drive is power and not revs so much.  I feel the roll is the most important.

DIdn't say RPMS had anything to do with ball speed....

Said if one does 27 revs to the end of the lane...if one guys ball takes 10 seconds to go down there it may only be 250 revolutions PER MINUTE.

If another guy does 27 revs to teh end of the lane if the ball takes 2.5 seconds to rotate these 27 revs to the end of teh lane then that is closer to 700 rpms.

That was the question...if I do X number of revs on the lane surface before pit how many Revolutions per Minute is that?  ....time is a factor in the calcualtion of Revs PEr MINUTE!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I did no scientific calculation on how many revs times x speed is an exact count of 700...again Kegel must have erred when they recorded him in the 600s several years ago.  My math was as simple as this...I have 13 to 14 revs per lane...I hit the pin deck at 15 or slightly less...my revs at Kegel were in the 280 to 320 range.  Maybe when at Kegel he could only generate 26 revs that day or 25.  There is no doubt...he is a revver...Jimmy Keeth had a bit more!
Both incredible out of this world powerful in the rev counting sense.
PPS I believe power is penetration to the breakpoint!
