Impact on the sport of bowling Spoiler
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:43:00 AM »
Do you think this win will have a huge impact on bowling?  Danica Patrick brought some attention to Indy initially.  But will anyone care that a woman won a bowling event?  I hope it helps bowling and gets the prize funds increased. 40k for a major is a joke.  Will this even make the 1st 50 minutes of sportscenter?  I'm sure it doesn't help that the NFL playoffs are on today and will take some attention away from it.

What does everyone think?

"Huge impact?" I just hope Kornheiser doesn''t turn it into a huge laugh, with Wilbon.

I can't anything but GOOD coming out of these results! These guys have proved to be the BEST BOWLERS around!Kelly proved that there SHOULD NOT be a separation of MEN and WOMEN .. now lets see if we get more women in these competitions .. perhaps this will add VIEWERS and then SPONSORS! Think it's the best thing that happened .. take nothing away from TWO HAND BOWLING that I also think will add to an attraction for BOWLING!

I know this. My wife actually stopped today and watched bowling with me when she found out a woman was in the finals. She rooted for her and seemed pleased with the outcome.

My wife doesn't watch sports, but she did today.

P.S. You know you're too involved with bowling when an old guy comes on the screen and your non sports involved wife catches a glimpse of him and says "Isn't that that Salvino guy your always talking about, Carmen Salvino I think". I was impressed .

Maybe she knows more than she's telling me?

Although it was a great win for Kelly, I don''t see this having any impact on bowling at all.  The sport is so far removed from people''s minds that I doubt many will even notice.  It''s a shame, but bowling just isn''t, and probably never will be, what it once was.

Danica''s impact on open wheel racing has had more to do with how she looks in a bikini than her driving skills.  Most people look at her one win and see it as a fluky fuel mileage win.  I think a win is a win, but to some it''s not as legitimate as it would have been if she had dominated from start to finish.
