He said he did that on purpose to celebrate. To me that was stupid because he still needed 2 pins to lock it up. Just what if the ball had come loose?(Foul, no pins). What if he had suffered injury & couldn't throw the last shot? I congratulate him, but that wasn't too brite!

Traber was a big baby when he lost. whah, I can't carry, whah, another 9 count. He needed to take a trip in the whambulance!! That straight game he plays can cause bad carry and it did today..
On the brighter side of things, way to go Chugs on your 1st victory!!
It was also a great effors by O'Neill. He bowled a great game except for 1 bad shot..

They knew he was going to do that, i'm positive they ok'd it, so if it did come lose i'm sure they would have let it slide. I didn't even see him throw his final ball.

I don't think "they" OK'd it.. If he would have fouled, O'Neill would still lost by 1 pin 246-245..

He didn't need 2 pins. That was a mistake by the announcers as even if he fouled, he would have won 246-245.
-
quote:
Randy Peterson should have explained that, as I'm sure a lot of folks watching at home were wondering why it wasn't a foul. Neither announcer even brought it up that I recall.
i do remember Randy saying that it wasnt a foul because he was still holding the ball

Yee it was pretty funny, and congrats to him on the win, he deserves it...he throws an awesome ball. On the thing with the PBA "okaying" it....I doubt it. Theres no way they could "okay" it. Also I hate it when they call that a trickshot, cause its not, hes not knocking any pins down. I also wonder what O'Neil thought about it, so let us know snowman. That fools got game!!!

I wish he would have thrown his last shot and then done it but either way it's funny.
Major congrats to him, he deserves that victory.

Nothing Wrong with the Flop at all in my opinion. Machuga has waited a long time to Finally a PBA Tournament. He's entitled to Celebrate any way he wants to. Oneill is Awesome. What a game that kid has!!!
-
Seeing the flop on tape is one thing but seeing it live is something else. It caught all of us by surprize when it happen. I was sitting in B3 bowlers right behind the stats table. Good matches. Negitive part about it Traber wah wah and not being shown on TV- They got B2 and left side.
and double rats
-
That was the funniest thing I've ever witnessed in bowling. I had never heard of "the flop", so I was completely stunned. My wife nearly peed her pants (from laughing) when I called her into the room for the replay!

as much as i'm glad to see mike machuga win and he did bowl well enough to earn the title his "flop" wasn't very "professional" looking.
-
YA GO MACHUGA REPRESENTING NE BABY

Speaking of Big Wes' show of proffessionalism, did anybody notice that when Billy was warming up for the championship match there were 2 people in the pits takling with him. One was Chuck Gardner ( the columbia/track ball rep ) and the other was Wes ( the very person Bill had just defeated ). That shows an awful lot of class to lose to a guy in one match and then do whatever you can to help him win. Big props to Wes !!!

Bill & Mike are both class acts. He bowled with both of them & had a great time. My son & I spent a good part of the week watching the pros. Most of the pros are good people & then there are a hand full that are not. We sat behind Bill for the TV finals. He was very very nervous. He had a right to be.
Mike & Wes were both very loose & worked the crowd. To those of you who didn't like Mike's show I might suggest that next time he makes the finals turn your TV to another channel. I wouldn't want any one to get hurt. Ya had to be there it was a great show.
-
There's a guy in Spokane that used to do the "flop" across about 6 approaches in IEBA tournaments (he would make sure he was the last person bowling). If Bob Hanson reads this he can probably remember the name, but I think it was a guy named Jimmy Allen. First time I saw it I completely cracked up.

I dont see how you guys can say that Mike lacked class after he did the flop. What Patrick Allen did last year when he beat Mika lacked class. Some of what Pete Weber does on tv, lacks class. Somehow I have a feeling that Bill ONeill was not offended by the flop. I believe it was a one-time thing and like someone else pointed out, Mike had been saying that he was going to do it if he ever won, so it wasn't like it came unexpected. I thought it was pretty cool to see him do it.

Nothing wrong with the Flop at all. Do you think Oneill was offended by it? I doubt it. Also there was nothing wrong with what PA did last year against Mika. People celebrate winning in strange ways.

In his pre-semifinal interview he mentioned a bowling alley in Erie, PA called "Rolling Meadows" and I just so happen to WORK THERE at the front desk and in the pro shop.
Mike is the man, very personable and funny and I am very glad he now has a title under his belt. This should be the first of many, the guy throws a wicked shot.
-
No doubt about it "choogs" has some serious game with that tweener style of his;the "flop" was great as well.Traber needed the landing gear for his ball, wasn't disappointed that "choogs" took him out.

I was glad Machuga won, he bowled great and was simply the better man. Bill bowled great too, but what chu gonna do? I found the flop funny and true to Mike Machuga, i'm sick of people and the media shooting down Machuga for being a bad influence on kids, if anyone is stupid enough to try it i could care less if they get hurt.

People worrying about kids trying to do the flop like Mike. How about teaching the kids to bowl like Mike.
Another classic example of adults allowing TV to teach their children instead of doing it themselves.

The game/match was over .......he had won regardless........so what ?!
The people pissed here are the same who got pissed when Duke threw the towel shot last year.
Relax everyone!
Hey....I thought I saw someone say that it made SportsCenter ? Great if it did.....I suppose these people are also the ones that say "our sport doens't get any attention"! Well....THAT CAN ONLY help!! It may make people say.."what's that all about....looks like fun to me! maybe bowling IS COOL!?"
Ever think about that.......
Bottom line........game over......so what !

I thought the flop was wonderful entertainment. I had seen it before, so I knew he might, if given the opportunity. Its no different than Pate or Annika diving into the lake beside the 18th hole or Hale Irwin's victory lap or backflips done by NASCAR drivers.

Please explain to me exactly how Allen and Weber are unprofessional??? This should be great to hear.

You people that think the flop was so wrong, I have to disagree with you. What is bowling without all the side shows that goes with it? It's just bowling that people have drawn away from. This bring ENTERTAINMENT to the sport again. I think it might be one of the greatest act in the sport. I bet the next time he bowls you'll be wanting to see him do the 'flop' again. Im pretty sure he will not be injured as been told he has done it several times. I have to respect anyone that is willing to sacrafice there body to put on a good show!
Now I have to agree that what Ernie Schlegel did to Randy Pederson was totally wrong! When you are talking a bunch of trash on live TV, that is due for the next weeks payperview match with the boxing gloves. Its one thing to talk trash, and then to do something is another. It probably would of been better if Ernie would of done the chicken dance than run around saying 'O my god, O my god, I cant believe it' and whatever else he was saying.
I wounder if Walter Ray can do the electric slide?????
-
Ya should have seen Mike & Norm Duke a half hour before the start of round 16. The other 14 were practicing & these 2 were putting on a show & a half for croud. Quite the deal.
-
Jeffrevs,
No I wasn't kidding at all ACTUALLY!!!
-
I cant believe the outcome of this. I understand the debate on whether this was classy for choogs to do or not, but I personally dont understand how so many people thinks it was so cool for him to do. He just went down the lane.....WOW!!!!!! Not...
But with the last post I do agree, anything to give the PBA a little more exposure is good.
