Rollin' On Th' River....The Greater Memphis Open
« on: July 01, 2003, 10:00:16 AM »
Rollin' on th' river....now that sounds like a good name for a song!  Actually, I got a chance to hear Ike Turner do that song live last fall at the annual King Bisquit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas!

And, in just a few hours, the PWBA will be doing their own version of "Rollin' On Th' River" in Memphis (on the banks of the Mississippi River), at Winchester Bowl in the southeast side of town.  I also heard a rumor that Elvis was going to be there to watch the ladies as they go about their bowling, but I cannot confirm this rumor.  Graceland isn't far from Winchester Bowl, so you can't really say for sure.

Anyway, I figured that I'd give a "heads up" for anyone within driving distance of Mempho-town, in case they wanted to catch up on some of the action.  I'm planning on driving over later this week to take in some of the competition, so maybe I'll get a chance to meet some of the BallReview members while I'm there.  And don't forget about the live telecast coming up this Sunday.

Well, so far the ladies have gone through 16 games of qualifying, and 16 games of match play.  Unless there are some major upsets in the final 8 games of match play on Saturday, it would appear that your top 5 contestants will come from the following list:

MATCH PLAY STANDINGS AFTER 32 GAMES
 BLOCK TOTALS TOTAL
 POS BOWLER - HOMETOWN QUAL 1 2 3 PINS AVG W-L-T PINS
 +OR-
 _____________________________________________________________________________________________

 1 Cara Honeychurch-Australia, 3387 1780 1806 0 6973
 217.90 14- 2- 0 7393 +993
 2 Tish Johnson-Northridge, CA 3501 1611 1785 0 6897
 215.53 10- 6- 0 7197 +797
 3 Tiffany Stanbrough-Oklahoma City, 3335 1726 1742 0 6803
 212.59 12- 4- 0 7163 +763
 4 Carol Gianotti-Block-Australia, 3401 1642 1687 0 6730
 210.31 10- 6- 0 7030 +630
 5 Dede Davidson-Las Vegas, NV 3314 1682 1722 0 6718
 209.93 10- 6- 0 7018 +618
 6 Liz Johnson-Cheektowaga, NY 3393 1580 1742 0 6715
 209.84 9- 7- 0 6985 +585
 7 Tennelle Milligan-Yorba Linda, CA 3417 1693 1563 0 6673
 208.53 10- 6- 0 6973 +573
 8 Carolyn Dorin-Ballard-N. Richland 3393 1615 1565 0 6573
 205.40 10- 6- 0 6873 +473

Again, there are still 8 games of match play left, and each win in match play awards a 30 pin bonus to the tally.  Interestingly enough, the top 3 bowlers right now are all lefties.....I don't know if Winchester is a lefties house, but that is where your tournament leaders are bowling at this time.

Looks like we have a good chance for the same top 5 as last week.  Has that ever happened before?

WOW------4 out of 5 lefties!

Dede has been on a rampage lately. Won last week and finished 5th the week before and in my opinion, had she carried she would have beaten Michelle Feldman that same week.

Looks like a left handers shot for the second week in a row.
Seems to me this happens rather frequently with the so called
"sport condition".

Well this will be interesting, all those
lefties playing the same line, don't they all
play the same one?? They might need to adjust
and how will they handle that! In the meant time
Tennelle has the right side all to herself.
May the right side win. GS

This is at least the third season with sport compliant patterns in PWBA national events.  Very rarely have we seen an almost all lefty show in that period.  While the back to back events is somewhat of an anomoly, it is not something that can simply be attributed to the sport compliance of patterns.
