First of all - ESPN is owned by Disney.
Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, there's a boycott at the mouse house.
When I write my letters, I will write them to Disney as well as ESPN.

Here's a link discussing ESPN, Disney, and a bunch of "favorable reviews" broadcast on ESPN regarding a Disney movie (surprise, huh?).

Here's another link posted by kenzone regarding giving feedback to ESPN by joining their viewer network:

I don't really think anyone can save the PWBA at this point, but if enough of us contact these mega corporations, maybe we can get something next time.

I just thought it interesting that ultimately the PWBA was taken down by Mickey Mouse.

Mumzie: I hope that by this point, after all that was said, you understand that your above statement is false; the PWBA in it's current form does not represent a sufficient return on investment to ESPN. So the issue is with the product (the PWBA), and not the distribution channel (Disney/ESPN).

As an employee of the mouse I can tell you that ESPN will not leave any stone unturned to make a buck. They have a bunch of really smart people who do nothing but study the different show production options and potential rates of return. They could care less if the sport is frog jumping, marbles, jacks, or any other odd ball competition you can conceive as long as the telecast maximizes profit for the designated time slot.

Rationalizations aside, the PWBA entertainment product didn't cut it. The sooner you accept that the blame lies with the PWBA and it's supporters and not with media companies, the faster you can move on to helping devise real solutions.

Why not try shopping the PWBA to Fox Sports Net? Granted it's not ESPN, but with all the crap they currently show (over and over again), there must be room for women's pro bowling on there.

You know - there are really 2 separate issues here, and I don't think anyone (myself included) has done a very good job of separating them.
Issue number one - the OLD PWBA - with it's original ownership, format, etc.
There were a lot of issues, problems, etc. No question. I was a member. I'm very familiar with the issues, problems, challenges, leadership, lack of marketing, etc, etc. That organization died last September. It's over. Dead. Gone, Buried, and long given back to the worms. (no pun intended...)

Second issue - the NEW PWBA - or what might have been. Steve Sanders made a generous attempt to revive women's professional bowling. As part of that attempt, he tried to work out a deal with ESPN to REVIVE this portion of the sport. This attempt would have been with NEW management, NEW leadership, NEW marketing, run by one of the top bowling promoters in the country, and hopefully a NEW image and a NEW presence to the world. This attempt is what was thwarted by ESPN.

And YES - I do understand business principles, and I DO understand responsibility to stockholders, and I DO understand the concept of profit. ESPN made the decision they felt they had to make based on these things, and they may very well have been the correct BUSINESS decisions. BUT several of the bowlers on this forum had voiced a desire to make their opinions known, and I started this post to pull some info together to make that possible. Last I heard, free speech was still a right in this country. That's it!!!

And if you read the closing comment in the original post

you will understand that these comments people want to send might just influence a little bit of the TV world's decision when the next women's professional bowling organization looks to to business.

One more thing - the PWBA was about more than the TV show. It was about a regional program, several hundreds of women nationwide competing at the next-highest level of the sport, and lots of those hundreds aspiring/dreaming to one day participate in the national level. Don't forget - by the Steve Sanders deal falling through (because of ESPN's business decision - NOT by any evil conspiracy conceived by Disney and ESPN), those dreams and aspirations have fallen through as well.

And you can argue this point all you want - I'm one of those members, and it's a very personal thing with me.

Mumzie: You're above statement is really the crux of the whole discussion/debate -- it's fundamentally about dreams, passion and emotion. I would hope that most observers would respect the hurt that most ex-PWBA players are feeling.

But the minute you allow "it being personal" to get in the way of clear thinking, you're done. The world is not sympathetic to dreams and aspirations -- it's about results. If Steve Sander's attempt was actually "generous" (in real world ESPN terms), woman's bowling would be on ESPN right now. The bottom line is that it wasn't enough, and everyone upset by this needs to move on and deal with the world as it actually is.

If the "it being personal" crowd ever wants to see the ladies on TV again, they will.
