Mini Eliminator
« on: July 12, 2003, 07:52:03 PM »
I was checking the Mini Eliminator results this morning and noticed Jeremy Sonnenfeld made the cut yesterday...no surprise there...but he did it in the Under 205 category.  Unless this is his father, or I'm reading the qualifiers list wrong, how is this possible?  Wasn't he the 2nd person to roll 900...I know, I know, he's technically the first, but Glenn Allison got screwed.  If this is him, and this is correct, then he gets my vote for "Best Sandbagger of All Time".

If you bowl in a sport league 205 is a great average. I bowled in the Mini this week and they had a version of PBA E oil pattern. The young crankers had a great shot, while the older strokers had a hard time trying to play the 1 2 3 board. They gave away the Bruiser ball and it hits very hard. It goes long and turns hard at the break point. Good ball.

I may rattle a few feathers here, but just because the guy bowled 900 does not mean he is a great bowler. I do not know, but he could have bowled his 900 on a walled shot, and the difference on that night was that he carried.

Just because the guy's average is not real high means nothing. #1-like was already stated, it could have been a sport shot average. #2-many of us have had nights when we pounded the pocket the entire night and maybe had a high 700 series or even an 800 series and all that may have kept us from that were a few solid 8's or 10's.

If someone bowls 850's and only 2 8 pins, flush, were left does that mean that he/she didn't throw the ball as well as any of the guys that shot 900 did? I don't think so. In order to throw 300 you have to have some luck, let along bowling 900. To bowl a 300 you have to have every shot carry, maybe you tripped a 10 pin late, or an 8 pin was the last fall. The pins have to fall, once you have released the ball properly, hit your mark, and had the proper ball speed...it is all up to the pins.

Reading the rules of the Mini, I am admittedly not sure how Jeremy fits into the Under205 category...'course, I am also not sure how this fits under the PWBA header either (if we were talking about Julie, I could understand ).

Jeremy has tremendous game, but he basically burned out on bowling is the way I understand it.  He still bowls some, but I do not even know if he bowls enough anymore to have a book average.  But, even if said in jest, to even think about applying the 'bagger label is to do an injustice.

I saw those results as well, but I think they messed up matching the bowlers to the categories in the standings.  The story in the "Mini Today" newsletter reports different information than what is shown in the standings.  For example, the story reports James Roberts as the Saturday qualifying leader for the 40-49 division, but the standings show him as being in the 39 and under.  Likewise, the story said Vinnie Atria led Senior qualifying, but the standings have him in the 40-49.

Michelle - The bagger comment was tongue in cheek and meant no disrespect to Jeremy.  I've also seen him bowl, and he has a ton of talent and a great game, which is what struck me as odd.  Like Pooter said, I'm sure they had the categories mixed up.

And apparently I was mixed up too, because I thought I posted the topic under Miscellaneous.

Take care,
Joe

If it is indeed a sport average it should be adjusted per the average adjustment chart provided by the ABC.  I had considered bowling in Vegas in January in the 205 and under division but I will reconsider if they do not shore up this loophole.

205 in a Sport League adjusts to 221 on a house condition.  For those of you that bowl in a sport league, 16 sticks is a conservative adjustment upwards.
