Yi, it burns . .
« on: July 09, 2003, 01:21:53 AM »
I taped last weeks PWBA telecast, and I'm watching it again.  Tennelle has a tongue stud.  Kinda cool.  Tish has a moustache.  Oh well.  Tiffy looks like she races somebody to the foul line.  Fun stuff.  I JUST heard ENTRY OF ANGLE, and rewound it to make sure.  Cara seems kinda prissy, but I'm sure she's nice enough.  They all seem to have about 3 or 4 boards at the breakpoint they can strike from.  Mixer to trip, I mean.  Lol, gotta go to work now, I'll finish this later.

With the way Tiffany scrambles to the foul line it's a miracle she can maintain any consistancy at all. I think she has a great release, but everything up to the final slide looks like she's completely "Double O C" as my girfriend would say. (Out Of Control).

I didn't notice the tounge stud.... Heart melting.... I've got a crush on her like I'm a 13 year old ...... At least until Kendra makes the show & I get to see her bowl again.

Kind of gross and tacky.

I had the pleasure of meeting Cara Honeychurch at an Ebonite Demo Days event in Las Vegas a few years back, and she's about the nicest person you'd ever want to meet.  She was very helpful to the participants, and seemed very knowledgeable about the equipment that was being demonstrated.  And I could listen to that Australian accent all day...

I too agree with Pooter, I met Cara at Samstown, about a year ago, and when I was think of using Ebonite, but was afraid of spending the money in case I did not like them.  She was going to give me one of her balls, but the guy handling her equipment had already left the casino.  I though that the fact she was even willing was a classy gesture.  You know what they say, "it's the thought that counts!"

Lefty - let me ask you a question...
Was the pro am at the end of the day, after she maybe bowled 8-16 games of qualifying?
I know that when I bowl pro ams on the Saturday night of a regional, I'm so tired I can barely talk. Fridays, I seem to be a crowd favorite!
On Saturdays, here's how the day goes:
8:30 practice (2-3 games worth)
9:00 6 games qualifying
1:00 practice
1:30 6 games qualifying
dinner break
pro am

So by the end of a pro am, it can be around 20 games or more - where the adrenaline is pumping for the 12 qualifying games.

The reason I'm pointing this out is that I have NEVER had anything but nice interactions with Cara, but I haven't bowled a pro am with her after a long day, either!

I've never had any interaction with any of them, sooooo . . .  Anyway, Tish got screwed, but I was going for Tennelle all the way once she got past Tiffy.  And is it just me, or does anyone else just cringe watching Marianne Dirupo?  I mean, she's got a great style, but her ball roll just screams flat hit.  The combination of side roll, speed, ball choice, and axis tilt makes me nervous.  I know she wasn't on the show, for all you white people that were getting ready to say, "Um, Marianne wasn't on the show . . "  I'm surprised Cara can get that much hook out of her stuff with the amount of axis tilt she has.  The commentators, no matter who they are, are irritating.  The CD's are both cool, but sometimes they don't know what they're talking about, and other times, they assume everybody else knows what they're talking about.  That whole deal with missing 10's because of the oil in the middle of the lane still gets me.  Ah, that was another bone to pick.  If they're such great athletes, why on earth can't they learn to throw STRAIGHT at their single pins?  If you can't pick up single pins with a hook monster, you need to practice.  If you throw STRAIGHT, you'll get them more often!!

Charlest, I know exactly what you mean.  I didn't notice the "body ornamentation", but I don't really go for that type of deal myself either.  I've got enough metal in my mouth already without having to add it to my tongue.

Left...there are other factors that can enter on pro-am's as well, even if they are held on a practice day.  We had an event last year where Cara had to leave the pro-am center early because of some health issues.  She was able to come back and bowl the regular event, but there was a trip to the medical center thrown into that particular week.  Remember that bowlers are human too, and are subject to good days and bad days just like anyone else...

Hmmmmm... sounds like she must have been in a lot of pain.

From what I have seen and heard, Cara seems like a real nice person, but she's extremely competitive.  When she loses, as she did the past two weeks from the top spot, there's none of that phoney baloney "I'm so happy for you" crap.  She was there to win, she lost, and she's not real happy about it.

But a pro-am is a bit different, can't see anyone getting upset about it.  Like I said, she was probably in pain.  If I lost to a lefty kid , I'd be in lotsa pain!

I saw Marianne in person a few weeks ago, I loved her shot.  Not to mention, nice person talking to the people behind her and all.

Considering that Marianne, Kelly (Kulick), Carolyn (Dorin) and Kathy (Dorin) are all from New Jersey, they sure are a bunch of nice, friendly people. Bizarre!
(And, yes, I'm from NJ also; so I can say that!)

Not to argue or belabor the point, but unless she was working on a 900 series, and blew it with the one shot you're referring to, I can't beleive that a pro-am result would have been that important to any of the pro bowlers.

The whole purpose of the pro am is to stir up the fan involvement, and try to generate interest in the tournament. It's promotion, plain and simple. So there would be absolutely no benefit gained from that kind of behavior.

Musta been something else going on...

I'll echo Mumzie's comment.  Pro-am's are not a place that most members, regional or touring, are going to care one whit whether an am outscores them.  That is the one time during the week where the players can kick back and relax... About the only thing that might phase some of the players is listening to incessant attitude or trash talk during their time on a particular pair, but I feel pretty comfortable in saying that Cara is not one that falls in that category.

As to the email, I can only suggest to you that not all of the players routinely check their email.  I know that during the time I was on the road, I had some accounts that were basically neglected until I got back home, and those had messages from friends.  I've been on both sides of the email equation, and even during the season, there are times that email to personal accounts or voice mail messages might not get returned right away.  Sometimes you want to walk away from the center and not think about anything connected with bowling until the next morning...

Yep. I couldn't agree more, Michelle.
Even cleaning the equipment has waited till tomorrow a time or two. Sometimes, handling those spherical objects just isn't important.
