Long overdue review on a ball that hasn't received the love it deserves.
I drilled my Beyond Ridiculous 60x4.5x30 (pin tall over ring) and as with almost every factory glossed ball, hated it out of the box. The high rg cover + glossy cover pushed the ball WAY down the lane and retained so much energy that I had trouble controlling my shape down the lane. Even on burnt lanes it covered too much territory down the lane and was too quick off the friction for me to control the pocket.
A trip to the spinner and a date with a fresh 3k pad changed the world. I was still getting surprisingly good length through the front, but saw the ball slow down in the midlane and make a strong, yet rounded motion on the backend. The Beyond Ridiculous has made my tournament bag and has had use on everything from short to long patterns. The one constant has been the need for the lanes to have a good 3-4 games of wear before I have wanted to use this ball. The easy length and strong backend matches up to patterns with drier fronts and carrydown, which I unfortunately don't experience enough of in league but can take advantage of in tournament play.
The Beyond Ridiculous is a hair longer/sharper than the original Ridiculous and in my opinion, too close to warrant carrying both balls in my bag at once. Compared to other skid/flippy balls, Quantum Bias is a step stronger due to the larger core and duller surface prep, helping the ball start up a bit sooner. The Cutting Edge Solid is a step weaker than the Beyond Ridiculous due to its weaker cover. Typically in tournament competition I would turn to my Beyond Ridiculous once my benchmark midrange balls (Vandals, Method, Magnitudes) start to roll a little early and don't make a sharp enough move down the lane. I did not order a Beyond Ridiculous Pearl as I cannot foresee the need for even more length/quick backend given my ball roll.
The Beyond Ridiculous offers a unique shape that will help bowlers project the ball down the lane and make a sharp move on the backend. Bowlers with more forward roll will love the length and change of direction of this ball, while most others will use it as a niche ball for getting deep inside. I recommend the Beyond Ridiculous for beat up lane surfaces, second shift leagues and longer tournaments where sharper backend angles are required.
