Any Layout suggestions for the Slant HD
« on: November 11, 2012, 09:19:27 AM »
Looking for a layout suggestion for the Slant HD I won, I asked over at bowlingchat but no joy. (I think you need a MoRich or Ebonite ball over there).

I'm thinking a 65º X 3 3/8” X 25º layout, for a sharper breakpoint. Which is pretty close to the Radical Drilling #2

Ball Spec's:
15 lbs. 3 oz
RG 2.47 / Diff .054 / Mid Diff .025 (from website)
Coverstock: Soaker Pearl
Finish: 1500 abralon then polished
Top weight: 3 oz
Pin to CG: 2 1/4"
CG is 1" from pin to MB reference line

My Spec's
Right handed
PAP: 5 7/8" over 5/8"up
Ball speed: 15.5 (on Qubica system), 16.5 first 15' (video method)
Rev's: 225 (averaged over 22 frames max 250)
Tilt: 13 Degrees (using axis tilt chart)
Rotation: 65 degrees (estimated from video using the overlay graphic)

The Lanes I mainly bowl on are Brunswick pro anvillanes (the ones with the breakpoint markers). They use a Kustodian ION lane machine (I don't know the brand of oil).

As for the condition's I've never got a straight answer. But if you walk down the lanes, The end of the buff area is at 41'. The main amount of oil appears to be 10 to 10.

My current balls in order of use wet, medium, dry are:

Roto Grip Nomad, 16 pounds, Pin to Cg 3 3/8"
90 X 4" X 40
Cg to Pap 4 3/4"
800 grit paper + Light Polish / sometimes without polish.

Roto Grip Nomad Dagger 15 pounds, Pin to CG 2 5/8"
95 X 4" X 45
Cg to Pap 4 3/4"
800 grit paper + Light Polish.

Storm Pyro 16 pounds, Pin to CG 3 3/8"
90 X 3" X 35
Cg to Pap 4 1/2"
With a 5/8" dia. 2" Deep hole on the PAP
Gray Scotchbrite + Light Polish.

Things have been a bit slower over there, which is typical when Mo is too busy to do much posting.  It doesn't matter what ball you ask help for there...

How do you want the ball to act compared to your current arsenal?

As I had above I'm thinking a sharper breakpoint

I estimate my sweet spot @ 100° with the angle sum variance of +/- 10°

I gathered that, was wondering if you wanted it for fresher conditions or after they had blended out a bit.

I like the asymmetrical core designs for your profile, where I see your sweet spot closer to 90 +/- 20.  I assume there are no balance holes used in your current listed arsenal, where most of your current totals are around 130 +/- 10.  So in your case I would start with a more of a benchmark layout and let the nature of the ball give you your extra angularity.

60* 4 1/2" 40* should give you more pop than your Nomad without being to difficult to control.  Start without a hole, try it and then fine tune from there.

Thanks for the recommendation on the layout.  I'm looking to get it drilled tomorrow so will see how it goes.

A little pop than the nomad sounds about like what I was thinking of.

Congratulations on winning the SLant HD. I know you'll be very happy with the perfromance and very surprised as to how much this pearl monster will hook down the lane.
I think you need to use your favorite drilling, nothing too complicated, we build them with the house conditions in mind and in reading the info about the lanes you should be able to light them up with the Slant HD.
If you find the SLant HD a bit too strong, hit it with 4000 and polish it. We also have a great compliment to it, the Torrid. That would give you a great 1-2 punch.
Best of Luck
