Guru Limited (Right ball at the right time)
« on: August 08, 2016, 08:49:08 AM »
The Guru line is my fav hands down. When I came to Big B the Mastermind line was the line that was a game changer for me. When I went to a demo day and Mo Pinel introduced the Guru I knew this ball was going to change the market then put the community on notice. It was no question who was the Big Boy on the block. Like Mo and Phil always do they looked at other was to enhance the line without replacing or overlapping the line. Each one brought something special and this was the one I have been waiting for since the solid was dropped. The Limited gives you the same performance that you expect from the Guru, but gave you a cleaner cover. Mo said on a staffing conference call that at Radical they don't create equipment just to have a solid, pearl, and hybrid cover per line. They use covers to give them the look they're looking for. So when I saw they made a pearl version I was very excited about it.

Layout: 65 x 3 3/4 x 30
Surface: OOB
Lane Conditions: THS broken down after 12 games or more

I brought along my Guru Supreme (75 x 3 x 30) and my Guru Mighty (70 x 3 3/4 x 25) to help me get a better feel of the ball. The Supreme was the first high end piece I could use when the lanes began to break down. It had been a go to for me and the Mighty was the ball I would go to once the OG Guru was way too much for the lanes. The Master was always first out of bag on sport shots that had longer patterns and tougher THS that had heavy volume.

The Limited was cleaner than the other two. This was the cover I needed. I don't have many pearl asyms besides the Scholar and Reax Pearl that I could use. This one was the look I have been wanting for a while. The Limited was a few feet longer than the other two as well. The difference was down lane. The Limited was more angular than the other two. It started up a few feet longer down lane. It was 6 boards stronger than the Mighty and vs. the Supreme it was 2 boards stronger. The thing I saw was how continuous this ball was. Once it made a left turn it kept driving. The two balls with pearl covers that was released gave me options to fill gaps for break down. The Limited wasn't a dry lane ball, but that ball you need to make a move inside because of break down that can keep you in the game. Then when it becomes too strong you can move to our lower end equipment and keep the foot on the throttle.

Overall what you can expect is the same top end performance the Guru line always had. The Limited give you that cleaner cover that once you open the lanes up with the solids you can shift to this ball and stay in the game. Mo mentioned balling up at times when you make a move inside. This is what I loved about the Supreme. It wasn't balling down to me, but gave me options when I had to move inside. Then with this ball it gives you a strong ball that allows you to move in and give you the hitting power you need when you need it.

I bowled a sweeper and a tournament both over the weekend and didn't notice the game had changed at all. I must have missed the notice.

Too bad every Radical ball that I've owned has cracked within six months, and usually less than that.  Not bad equipment, I just can't take the risk anymore.

I had a brand new Version 2 Pearl on the wall. It sat there for over a year. Decided last week, why not try it? I put 3 games on it last Tuesday. Pulled it out of the bag, cracked come Thursday. Figured it was better it happened to me than a customer. Balled rolled really well too. I will try another one soon, just because.

I had an Reax v1 Solid crack all the way around. I have also had a Reax v1 Pearl, a Reax v2 solid, a Reax Gusto, a Guru Mighty and a Jackpot with no issues. I haven't liked all of their balls, but I haven't noticed any more issues with their stuff than any other company.

Usually if a ball is under warranty and is a manufacturers defect it gets submitted and we address the issue. if you didn't contact us we really can't help.

Funny I would read this post today.

I've read about bowling balls cracking, but I read them with a shrug because it never happened to me. After all, I'm the type to clean my balls after each use and they're kept in a room where there's suffient ventilation and cooling -- mostly at room temperature in the mid-70s.

Today, I noticed my Radical Reax original solid cracked. It must have happened within the past two days. I also am likely to be out of luck in that I purchased my ball new in September 2014.

Sorry, but we have a limited 1 year warranty. Just a side note we are finding that balls that are not being used tend to crack more than balls that are in use. Also I was just told, not scientifically proven, that if you do store balls that are not being used that you should store them in the plastic bag they came in and twist tie it. Again this was relayed to me by a pro shop operator at a trade show. just passing along what he said.

Several of my customer's balls (not Radical or any Brunswick company's) have cracked, and for some with drilled thumbholes, not using slugs or sleeves, the original bit would not completely go into the hole.  It would go through the coverstock and stop when it reached the outer core or filler material.  This suggests to me that the core and/or filler continued curing after manufacture until the pressure from the swelling cracked the coverstock.  I'm interested in newguy's opinion and comments.  --  JohnP

My experience is exactly what newguy has suggested.  Every ball that has cracked on me was on a shelf at room temperature, but had not been used for some time.

Don't "save" your favorite ball.  Use it, maintain it, and you'll get hundreds of games out of it.  I actually heard one crack...  It was weird...

I really do not know the manufacturing process of all our competitors. Some will pour covers over cores that have not fully cured. This usually happens when they are in back order situations. If the core hasn't fully cured it is still changing when the cover is poured and thus is an " accident waiting to happen"
We never speed up the process, our failure rate is the lowest I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of manufacturing processes.
Hope this helps

I am looking at the Guru limited. I throw all Hammer and the pro shop told me this ball can't be compared to any other hammer ball cause of the core and the pearl. I am a two hander, but if you'll balls are cracking why should I purchase it?

Our balls have less than 1% failure rate, so they do not crack at any rate that should be of concern. I answered the other part of you question in a different thread.

Guys what I have found out was I keep my equipment in the bag it come in and the box as well. I also store them in an area where it's not a constant climate change. This prevent cracking for me well over 100%. The thing I feel thinking wise is that cracking comes from losing moisture within our equipment. So by keeping the ball in the clear bag, tied up, in the box, and an area without constant climate changes I haven't had any issues. Also when I did have one crack Brunswick didn't give me any issues at all. I gotten a ball within 2 weeks and/or credit for another ball. I'm not a chemists by any means but I know that Big B put a lot of work into the items they put out. Another company (not saying who) gave me a fit over replacing a ball. I was transferred 10 times and it was always them trying to say it was my fault or go back to the pro shop who drilled it. Never had that issue with Big B and this was before I was a staffer. Which made throwing their items more of a safer investment.

Try this and others can chime in. Everyone I told this to haven't had a ball crack since doing it. My basement is loaded with balls I had for a few years and none have cracked since doing this. Hope this helps.
