Katana Slash Question
« on: March 29, 2018, 06:19:47 AM »
Hello community,

I have recently purchased the Katana Slash, OOB first time throwing it I went 230, 170, 230. The ball motion was very continuous, but not a lot of motion to the pocket. I changed the surface to 2000, and didnt see much change. I thought of going 500 and then polish, and I saw a little more motion but still very straight on the fresh. My question is should I not be trying to use this ball on the fresh and more on the burn. I usually play up 10, do I need to move closer to 5 to get more friction. What surface would you suggest I try next? 4000k? I know it might be hard to provide suggestions without my stats or a video. I really like how the ball drives through the pins, but I dont get that motion back to the pocket that I immediately  get if I change to my Creed. Maybe my concept of what the ball is suppose to do is wrong as well.

The Slash is stronger than the Creed. If you're getting more motion with the Creed then there isn't enough oil for the Slash where you're playing

I had the same problem with my Slash, it was straighter than my original Katana.  I hit the surface with 1000 and rough buff and the ball now is probably 5 boards stronger than my original with the same backend reaction.
Yours at 2000 might be burning up also, maybe try 4000 instead.

That is what I thought, I wasnt sure which way to go with the surface. I saw Mo suggestion on Facebook to try 2000, and then went to 500 + Polish and neither seemed to do what I was hoping.

What do you mean by rough buff???

I think it was burning up at 2000, I currently have it at 500 + Polish. Do I need to go in steps of 500, 1000,2000,4000 or can I go from 500 + Polish straight to 4000?

If the Creed is giving you the motion you like, why are you trying make the Slash be the same? The Slash is stronger overall, it will naturally need to be more inside of the Creed because that's where the oil is on a house shot

The Slash is suppose to be more angular in the back, and I am not seeing that. I would think that the Slash would have a sharper movement off the breakpoint than the Creed but it doesnt.

Don't fall in love with ball marketing. I think the Slash is a great ball but marketing hype overblows certain characteristics and a lot of times it's saying a strong ball is going to have more backend. If you moved into the oil with the Slash you might get more backend, but if you're playing outside in a dry part the Creed is going to have more backend because it's cleaner through the dry

hmm that is a very good point, now I dont know what surface to keep it at lol. I think I will try 4000 surface and move deeper.

Rough Buff is the previous name for Brunswick's liquid compound. It's a highly abrasive compound used to smooth out rough surfaces. If it's used on surfaces around 1500 grit or smoother, its use will result in a polished surface. Usually it can take a 500 grit surface to the 3000/4000 grit range, but its application takes many human factors into consideration. So its results can vary wildly. Experience is the only thing that make the results consistent. It is usually safer for newbies to use different grit abrasive pads to achieve the final surface they want/need.

I changed the surface to 500-2000-4000 and this gave me the reaction I originally thought that I was going to get.

How is it drilled, pin up balls will stand up quicker depending on your axis tilt, rotation and rev rate. It may be standing up too quickly for what you are bowling on.
