Application of Royal Compound seems inconsistent at best, both at the factory and at home. So polish on top of it could be very fine, like you would get if you sanded the ball to 1000/2000/4000 and then polished it, OR it could be barely shined.

If the stock surface of the ball, as you got it out of the box, is highly shined, then 4000 + polish will not be significantly different. If the out of the box shine seems barely a polish to your eyes, then you could get a larger difference.

If your eyes can't tell, then, by all means, try the 4000 + a high gloss polishing job.

It is highly polished, just wanting to get close to it again when it's time to touch it up.

Many times, it's best to put your own finish on a ball, just so when it needs to be re-finished, you know exactly what is on it and how to restore it.

Would I see much difference in taking it to 4000 polished?

I've found that Brunswick's finishes with their gritty polishes are impossible to replicate, just trying to get close, if not create a little more length.

Take it down to 4000 without any polish and see what the reaction is. The only time I would use anything polished is if the lanes are fried otherwise why would you purposely take the teeth out of the ball?
