Radical Bowling Coverstocks
« on: April 30, 2013, 11:50:13 AM »
Guys
Just an interesting point, since I have switched the brand over to Brunswick Manufacturing I have noticed a tremendous difference in the performance of the cover stock and the response time to the dry part of the lane. I have also raised my average nearly 5 points since January. That's pretty significant considering how many games we bowl nothing about my game has changed just my carry percentage has gone up significantly. One league is 44 weeks and the other is 40 weeks.
From what I know from experience with a few ball companies the Brunswick formulas are now tops in the industry. This is not a commercial for the Brunswick resins just an update on what I see.
Recovery and continuation is the most obvious, but most surprising is the predictability I can get when putting a core and cover combination together to launch a new product. Our options are nearly limitless. Wait till you see what we are doing next. This is going to be crazy good!!!!!

Used my Reax at Nationals, looked great in team, hooked a lot in D/S. Have about 15 games on mine, hasn't shined itself up and hasn't lost a step.

We both used it on a heavier condition and saw similar reactions.  Lots of length and no recovery.  I throw mine on the spinner and use Tac Up after bowling.

Try either Clean and Dull or Hook-It

+1 Impending, maybe the ball is just rolling too early and expending all it's energy. It's a solid so it will roll early and midlane and by watching videos of it, it rolls real early. Yeti will be more midlane and BE.

Well, I would be surprised if this cover was actually dead.  I have this ball and absolutely love it.  But on our wood lanes, when the shot breaks down, the ball will puke.  Strong balls with strong cores need the right conditions.  If you don't have enough oil  . . . the ball will look lazy and weak.  Weak balls tend to look stronger on lower volumes of oil compared to the big hook monsters on the market.  Watch the ball go down the lane . . . or have your pro shop guy watch.  Is the ball burning up, using too much energy early? Have you tried adding a coat of polish?  I had to add a light coat of Renew It to mine to be able to use it on our 42ft pattern

There are 3 facts people generally seem to ignore regarding strong hooking, oil loving balls:
1. They absorb oil like sponges. They need to be cleaned IMMEDIATELY after use, with a strong, GOOD, deep cleaner. They may need/require oil extraction more often than less strong balls.

2. All balls today are subject to having their surface changed by use, in proportion to the surface on which they are used, their original surface and the rev rate of the user. You may need to restore/refresh the surface as often as every 10 - 15 games!

3. These strong balls requires heavy oil to get them to perform properly and to retain enough of the energy applied by the release (rev rate, ball speed, tilt, rotation, surface, etc.)  to discharge that energy at the pins when it reaches the pocket/pins. If the user is not playing then proper part of the lane for the release/drilling/surface/ball design, especially for these super strong balls (Reax, Sync, Defiant, Paranormal, Nightmare, whatever)  They're going to look like they died.

99.9% of the time, if they look they died, look to one of the above causes. Otherwise, look in the mirror.

The Reax is really that strong at box finish. I could not use it on THS comfortably at box finish. I am not one to be in 4th arrow or more out the gate to use a ball just to use it.

For speed dominate or low rev players or any bowler on heavier oil it is no doubt the ball to have. It should have a warning label added to the box. (WARNING: INSTANT HOOK. *oil not included*)

The issue is that 95% of bowlers do not understand 'hook' strong or otherwise....so in situations where it is a strong cover, meaning responding earlier on the lane, it's generally perceived as not 'hooking'...bowlers perceive 'hook' as a reaction the last 15-20' of the lane

I have applied polish and it just went straighter..  With even less overall reaction...  I will try going to 2000 or 4000...  But even still, on the heavier volumes I have bowled on, just wasn't the same as OOB..

If you've used too strong of a layout it very well could be flaring out thus giving the illusion it's not 'hook'ing...

I've used my Reax for about 20 games and the ball is not slowing down.  I had to bring it to 2000 to get it to stop hooking as much for me.  There's a variety of factors that can dictate the overall versatility of the Reax such as volume and lane surface.

At nationals it allowed me to open my angles a lot more.

I rarely if ever clean a ball, my goal is to see how long it takes for a ball to stop perfroming. I have about 30 games on my Reax and had not seen any change. I drilled it weak so I could use it more often, a stronger drilling would have made the ball to strong for the typical house shot and it would have rolled out at 40 feet.

Cleaning I suggest using warm water and dawn dish washing soap, soak the ball for about 10 to 15 min. Than wipe it dry.

i have not heard of any of the Reaxii, slowing down.

Hope this helps

Phil, how do these covers compare to the Soaker covers you were using back with Dyno-Thane?  Is there still a little bit of a "break in" period before their full potential is realized?

There is no break in period on these. We are working on devloping a soaker cover for the future.

Reaxii!  Love it... I've done a few videos on the Reax now and have probably 30-40 games on it thru testing for my website.  I've cleaned it once with Clean n Dull and that's it.  Have noticed a slight sheen on the ball now, but that's normal with every ball.  I can say that this ball is just as much a beast today as it was the first ball I threw with it.  No change in reaction whatsoever.
