Thinking of getting another Radical ball
« on: January 02, 2016, 08:50:49 AM »
I have the Reax-2 and the Gusto.  I got the Gusto at the start of this season, and have not used it much.  I only bowl two leagues and practice once a week and I have not really gotten into the difference between the two.  I basically am standing in the same spot for both balls.

I was under the impression, based on the old chart on the Radical website, that the Gusto would hook a lot less than the Reax-2.  I do get that it hooks much later, and that gives it a different entry angle, but I haven't experimented with it too much yet.

I would like to get something that would allow me to play outside, like 3-5 board.  Sometimes I can execute that shot, on fresh oil, with one of the two balls I have, but usually it dries out too quick and I don't have enough ball speed to keep going with it.

I would like to have that as an option, and I think, with the right ball it would work really well for me.

Looking at the new chart that was posted in this forum, that shows all the Radical balls (which also seems to reflect the reality of my experience with the Gusto and Reax-2 better), I was thinking either Grease Monkey or Grease Monkey Whack, but I am not sure.   Do I want something that goes longer, or something that hooks early, for this situation, like the Pow, for example?

I throw accurately, about 12-13 MPH, not sure of the revs, but the Pro that watched me said I was a "tweener."

I'm not sure about the ones you already have, but the Primo (pearl) has been outstanding for me when I play outside.  Great length, but strong enough to cover all the boards back to the pocket.  Give it some thought.

I noticed that you haven't tinkered around with the surface of both pieces. I think it may be in your best interests to consider doing just that.

Ball speed avg. (18.25 mph)
Rev rate avg. (400-428 rpm)

I might do that, but first I was going to get the Reax-2 resurfaced, probably before next season.  If that gives me a couple more boards, then I would have the difference with the Gusto I had anticipated.

You should look into the Rack Attack pearl with a 1.5-2" layout from PAP. Playing that far out typically requires a very stable rolling ball.
