RICO effect on Guru/Untamed
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:42:41 AM »
Newguy,

Was looking into some Radical products and am very interested in the Guru and Untamed. With the Scoop technology I know how much of a swing drilling the pin under does compared to pin over, but does drilling the Guru or Untamed RICO get the fingers up high enough to miss some/most of the scoop and not effect the diff as much as someone who would put the pin just under the fingers?

If you are wondering why I would RICO a Guru, its the roll I like out of the drilling. I have always stuck with the thought of find a drill or 2 that you like, drill different balls so you get a different look/different cover to help make your moves.

Any help is appreciated!

In my opinion, if you like the reaction you get out of this layout, the Guru will merely give you a strong overall reaction
Keep in mind, the premise behind the 'Rico' layout is much of the core remains intact after initial drilling, increasing the overall reaction once the weight hole is added...
The layout merely enhances a bowling balls overall reaction
Hope this helps

Ric,

Thanks for the response. I wondered if the layout would have any difference because of the Scoop technology. I thought the intention was to keep as much of the core intact as possible....just didn't know what the effects were on the different type core in the Guru or the other Radical Scoop equipment.

Very much appreciated!

After seeing the video thats been put out now twice about the Guru and with Ric stating the Rico drilling is to give you a strong overall reaction, who would need anything stronger than the drilling recommended by the manufacturer?  The Guru already appears to be one of the most if not most strongest reacting ball.  A Guru on steroids.  I can't imagine it.  I would like to still see if Phil responds to your original post and maybe have one tested with a Rico driling on in.

The layout is generally only in the 10-15% of reaction after surface...so it's not going to increase that much...it'd be like a 3 wood to a driver

Thanks for the info...and I never said I wanted a stronger Guru...just wondering if there would be any unforseen issues with using a RICO drill because of the Scoop.
I was worried about drilling out too much of the scoop and lessening the diff...not looking to make it stronger, just didn't want to neuter it.

Thanks everyone!

You tend to leave the primary but the weight hole is what enhances & increases the diff...6.75" from primary pin is strongest placement of a weight hole along the high RG equator
I doubt there was testing as there are a few that do not consider this to be a layout...

Thanks again Ric

I have one on order (along with a Yeti Untamed) and plan to drill both RICO...maybe I will see what happens with them.

My comment was based on Ric's original post that he had edited.

Too many times too many base too much on the layout and not enough on the bowling ball and surface strength plus surface prep...the biggest components of reactions
