900 Global Sublime Focus
Cover: 2000 Grit Reserve Blend 804™ Solid Reactive
Core: Immersed™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Xanthic/Indigo/Black

Review:
900 Global is really hitting the mark with their releases as of late and we are really excited for this solid version of the original sublime. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is a GREAT benchmark solid and probably going to get looked over a little bit but man does this thing pack a punch and it is a great bang for your buck. If you need a step down from an asym solid such as the harsh reality or ion max this is the one. This ball really holds a lot of energy and continuation through the pins even for burning up so much energy so quickly. This core is simplistic yet beefy and we love it for that reason. 2000-3000 grit pads really change the design and shape for some of our tournament players and compliments this cover very well. We look forward to drilling several of these bowling balls.

39348 - Miscellaneous / 2024-25 Staff Changes and Product Registration Changes
« Last post by tommyboy74 on November 21, 2024, 08:38:34 PM »
2024-25 is off to an interesting start as Track, Jeff Richgels from the 11thframe.com reported that Columbia 300 and Radical have decided to no longer be PBA registered brands.  This is interesting as Brunswick had purchased the EBI brands back in 2019 to prevent them from being eliminated with EBI going out of business.

Only Brunswick, Hammer, DV8 and Ebonite will remain registered.  That being said, there will be many changes to staff at the start of this season.

In addition to that major change, Andrew Anderson has recently left Motiv as he mentioned on his YouTube channel.  Where he lands remains to be seen.  Until then, he is a free agent.

Roto Grip Attention Star S2
Coverstock: 2000 grit eTrax™ PLUS Hybrid Reactive
Core: Momentous™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Berry/Silver/Black Aqua

Review:
Sequence 2 is here! The original Attention Star is one of our best balls of 2024 picks. It was heavily featured during the ladder half of the PBA tour season and the sequel is just as good in our opinion. We love asymmetrical hybrid covers from SPI. It has always been one of our favorite reactions on our house shot and many other centers in the Pacific Northwest and if you follow SPI releases you’ll know as of late they havn’t shown asymmetrical hybrids much love, only releasing the Magic Gem during the last several months. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is a great piece on multiple patterns. It blends the lane extremely well on the fresh and we actually can stay in this piece longer than we anticipated. The first couple weeks of league using this we didn’t even have to transition out of it which is kind of surprising as we normally lose pin carry or are forced too far left. We see this ball being the first or second out of your bag for both league and tournament players. I am sure you will be seeing a lot of this ball as the PBA looks to start its pre season play. Another great release from Roto Grip!

56950 - Roto Grip / Re: Optimum Idol Pearl

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl
Coverstock: MicroTrax™ Pearl Reactive with Reacta Gloss
Core: Ikon™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Bubblegum/Iris

Review:
Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Our first experience with this ball was a little interesting… it looked terrible on the fresh and couldn’t really get a consistent look on the burn where it makes you confident in switching to this ball. After the Phaze AI came out and the release of Power Edge we took reacta gloss off and switched it to the PE… and wow did it make a huge difference. Now the ball looks great on the fresh and even better on the burn. If you had a poor experience at first with this ball we recommend trying the new polish. The ball seems more smooth (which you can expect from an Idol line ball) and more stable through the end of the pattern while the pearlized cover really helps this ball stay continuous through the pins. Just another reason to make sure to alter the surface of your equipment to help match YOUR game.

Ball Specs:
Storm Road Warrior
Coverstock: R2S DEEP™ Pearl Reactive with Power Edge
Core: Inverted Fe2™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Sapphire/Steel

Review:
You have to pay a lot of respect to any ball in the “road” line. It is partly what helped build the Storm brand to what it is today. Throw this ball and you will quickly understand why they call it the road warrior. This is one of those pieces that is a must have, one of those pieces that is always there when you’re left with little to no options as the day goes on. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). We actually didn’t expect this ball to look that great on the fresh but since we are a higher friction house it could be an option for higher rev players. For those lower rev players however it may not be enough for the first couple games of a typical house shot. For the average player this ball will come in handy once the fronts get a little beat up or especially when the lanes fully break down in a tournament past games 3 or 4. I am sure you will be seeing this in a lot of tournament bags. Must have!

56950 - Storm / Re: Phaze A.I.
« Last post by Kyle.Johnson88 on November 21, 2024, 07:16:59 PM »
Ball Specs:
Storm Phaze A.I.
Coverstock: TX-16™ Power Edge Pearl Reactive
Core: Velocity™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Ivory/Anchor/Onyx

Review:
This is a BIG release for many reasons… First, the Phaze II is probably the GOAT so coming out with another variation has very large shoes to fill. Then comes adding the A.I. core to the famous weight block and not to mention the debut of the new polish POWER EDGE (Thank god – as we were not huge fans of the reacta gloss finish). The first thing we notice is it definitely has a patented phaze ball motion which is described as forgiving, continuous, predictable, stable, and versatile. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). It is early to come to conclusions but the power edge finish probably has a lot to do with this ball seeming to be more forgiving off the pattern. In our short experience with the reacta gloss finish we did note that sometimes it seemed to give a little too over/under and be very sensitive off the pattern to speed. This polish seems not as “slick” and seems to pick up a touch earlier to help with this issue. So far we like what we see out of this ball. If there is any downsides… reading a black and white ball that is very shiny is a little tough and distracting but if the ball strikes then who cares. Another banger from the Phaze line!

Ball Specs:
Storm Ion Max
Coverstock: 2000 Grit NRG™ Solid Reactive
Weight Block: Element™ Max A.I. Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Neon Pink/Indigo/White

Review:
It’s time to take your game to the MAX! All of our bowling balls are tested on the same fresh pattern and with out of box surface. This was the strongest ball from SPI we have ever thrown out of box. The first flare rings were insane to say the least. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). If you like the ball to hook early and a lot overall this could be a game changer for you. We bowl mostly at a high friction center so this is a ball realistically that we can only use for a short period of time during league before we have to ball down or be forced way left with our feet but if bowl at a center with a longer pattern or less friction and are having an issue getting the ball to hook early or come off the pattern then look no further. The ball has great shelf appeal and looks pretty cool going down the lane. This is going to be special one, look out for a local matchmaker if you can to give this one a shot!

56950 - Storm / Re: Storm Summit Ascent Review
« Last post by Kyle.Johnson88 on November 21, 2024, 06:52:52 PM »
Ball Specs:
Storm Summit Ascent
Coverstock: 4000 Grit R2S™ Solid Reactive
Weight Block: Centripetal™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Aqua/Smoke/Shadow

Review:
The long awaited solid version in the summit lineup! We loved how strong the original summit (hybrid coverstock) was and how angular the summit peak (pearl coverstock) was so the solid version has a lot to live up to. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Sporting the R2S cover we expected this ball to give off very clean/smooth Phaze 2/Axiom vibes. We were actually a bit surprised at how clean it was. On a fresh house shot we found this ball to be easy to get to the pocket but difficult carrying. After a few 10 pins in a row if was clear with the cover being so clean and having a 4K finish this is probably not the ball to start on the fresh with. In league/tournament settings we threw this ball towards the end of the block and it looked much better. It is clear this ball with factory finish is more of a transitional piece if that is what you’re looking for. If you want this piece to look good on the fresh you may consider putting a slightly heavier grit with or without polish to try and create some more angle to the pocket if you find it being too smooth and too clean. Overall this ball will fit great as a 2nd or 3rd option ones the lanes get a little chopped up.

55369 - Roto Grip / Re: Roto Grip Attention Star S2 Review

Layout: 2 x 6 x 5 - 2LS
Layout Extras: 3 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left

Review:
The Attention Star Sequence Two features the Momentous Altered Variant + Amplified Inertia Core Technology. Basically what this means is Roto Grip has taken a core previously featured internationally and brought it to the states with a few upgrades. This ball pour is also quite stunning in its color combinations.

The ball intent is to create a ball motion not readily seen in the SPI line of bowling balls. In comparison to my Roto Grip Attention Star and my Roto Grip X-Cell I believe this ball will be exceptional on longer and higher volume patterns. For me, the Attention Star is a bit quick and forward on THS so it found most of its use on sport patterned conditions. The X-Cell is a tough ball to overtake in my current arsenal. It's been my go to on patterned conditions and is good in league too.

The S2 is a bit more rounded and will provide a good controlled and continuous reaction. Will it compliment the X-Cell over time? I can't say at the current time. I do like what I see from the S2 and look forward to evaluate further at upcoming SPI MatchMaker events as well. Also, I want to get the S2 on some higher volume patterns and see the range this ball has as transition occurs.

For me, I really desire an option for sport and league patterns where control is the key, yet I want to have some asym options as a thumbless player. The Attention Star I did take some of the Reacta Gloss off and will try it with Power Edge. As for the S2, I will let some lane shine on the ball to get it through the fronts a bit easier.

I feel the Attention Star S2 is going to see a lot of play like the Attention Star did on PBA tour last year. As noted, the cover comes out at 2000 Grit Abralon from the factory. I'm going to "create" some shine with water and a rag on the spinner.

Be sure to grab an Attention Star Sequence Two (S2) today. It might just be the look you want when coming off of your big asym balls in the arsenal.

55369 - 900 Global / Re: 900 Global Origin Review

900 Global
The Origin
Coverstock: Reserve Blend 93 Hybrid
Finish: Power Edge
Core: Ellipse Core with A.I.
(14 pd)
RG: 2.49
Differential: 0.050
Int Diff: 0.020

Layout: 4 1/2 x 5 x 4 - 2LS
Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left
Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D

Review:
The Origin features an all new coverstock/core combination. The excitement around this ball is huge. Where it will fit in your bag is right under your big asymmetrical pieces such as your 900 Global Harsh Reality and/or your Harsh Reality Pearl.

One thing you will notice the core is a completely different shape but the "numbers" are similar to other 900 releases such as the Sublime and the Sublime Focus. Although the Origin is an asym offering compared to a symmetrical you will find The Origin will fit nicely in an arsenal. What does this mean to you? It means your Origin new coverstock along with the new Power Edge finishing will give you length and still retain energy. It also means when your big asymmetrical balls start to labor The Origin will start to shine during the transition period.

A good ball within the 900 Global line to compare The Origin to is the Sublime. The reason why is the Sublime concept is good but the Reacta Gloss finish untouched could make this ball slightly unpredictable. Specifically the Sublime was a touch to clean and a bit late off the spot. The Origin with Power Edge appears to match up much better with the OOB finish. A much deeper analysis will be coming as a few SPI MatchMaker events will be coming up to round out the year.

My speed tends to be slower, so bigger balls burning up early can be a common occurrence before I change surfaces or let lane shine build up. The Origin with Power Edge takes some of the above out of play which I'm excited about. Also, out in the eastern region lane beds are continuing to get older and older. The need to create length and control with bowling ball offerings is continuing to grow.

For me, I did not do any surface adjustments on The Origin. It was not needed and I'm satisfied with the OOB surface as is.
