The Roto Grip MVP bowling ball is an MVP among mid performance balls. This ball introduces the Neutron NXT core and the VTC-H19 Hybrid coverstock. The core in this ball was derived from the successful Neutron core but with a higher RG that provides ample reaction at the breakpoint. The coverstock formula allows more response to friction at the back of the lane than previous mid performance hybrid coverstocks from Roto Grip. This ball is a go to ball when the lanes transition and a stronger ball starts to break too early. This ball will also be great when up against lane conditions with more friction.

I think it’s safe to say that the MVP is kind of a “blast from the past.” The MVP is todays Wrecker only modified for todays lane conditions and volumes of oil. The MVP has the same core featured in the Wrecker (Neutron Core) just modified slightly and wrapped around a Hybrid coverstock. The MVP has a very similar motion to the Wrecker but I would say it is a little bit earlier and shapes more down lane.

The MVP can also be used on heavier patterns where as the original wrecker would shoot through the oil and cause a lot of over under. The MVP is best used when you need to get out of a solid symmetrical and you still need that smooth and controllable shape, but from a weaker cover bowling ball. The MVP is the perfect fit and it handles surface changes really well so it could be used from light oil, to heavier oil when the time comes to use it.

The MVP is a special piece with a unique shape that helps the Roto Grip line be so wide spread and gives all types of bowling styles something that’ll match up to their game.

When throwing the MVP I could not believe they put this ball at the HP2 price point, felt more like a HP3 for sure. I compared it to the winner and found that it was cleaner but was bit stronger in the back end but still had lots left in the tank to crush the pins. I was about 3 left with the MVP over the winner. I can see this being my go to ball for league to keep me from moving all over that map when the lanes start to break down. If you liked the wrecker line a few years ago you will love this ball.

I drilled my MVP up 4 3/4" x 40*. I have been putting 2000 or 3000 depending on what pattern I am using this on. I get a strong back end movement out of the MVP. I can send it away from the pocket and get this one back with some power and hit. I also have it spaced between my Pro Motion and !Q Tour Emerald. I have noticed that 3000 does blend it out and take some of the whippiness out of the back end motion.

This year for Roto-Grip has been a year to separate the lines and have distinct differences between them. With HP1 holding down the low end of the Roto-Grip world, HP2 is the next step up with the MVP with the VTC-H19 Coverstock with the all new Neutron NXT Core. With this line I expect to be able to move left and play close to the dry and have a smooth backend. For this ball I went pin below the bridge with gave me a 71x4-3/4x75.
This is another ball that allows me to play closer to the friction and play down the boards standing around 17-18 playing around 6-7 at the arrows. The hybrid cover blends the friction well while still allowing a nice change of direction on the backend. It has more of a skid-flip motion rather which is to be expected with this cover/core combination with a RG of 2.55 and a Diff of .040.
For me this ball is best on shorter sport patterns with lots of friction or lanes that are high friction and everything hooks on them. For me this ball can be easily compared to the wrecker and anyone who had one loved them. I have took the polish off this ball to see how it responds to surface and it does not disappoint as it allowed me to move deeper and still carry the corner pins with ease.

Comparing to the Hustle HSB that has a hybrid cover, the MVP motion was similar to about 40-42 feet, then that is where the core and cover took over, went a little longer to the breakpoint and responded better in the backend more so then HSB and over hybrids we have had in the HP1 and HP2 line up. Better overall performance and scoring then the HSB Hustle and similar balls from the past. Updating the Neutron Core from the Wrecker series was an excellent add to the HP2 line and will be a great benchmark ball for any level of bowler.

Continuing in the legacy of ridiculous performance-to-price ratios in the HP2 line, the MVP doesn't disappoint. A brand-new cover (VTC-P19 at 1500/polish) wrapped around a familiar core (Neutron NXT at 2.55/0.040, a modified version of the Wrecker core) combine to produce a strong, nasty, chuggy shiny ball that can absolutely slay lower-volume house shots. It's got a big directional change downlane, but it never feels too whippy. It can create a ton of angle through the pins, but also has a very heavy forward-rolling downlane motion that could fool you into thinking it might actually have an asymmetric core. These combine to make it a bit of an enigma in terms of ball motion... but if that's what it is, this is one of the most fun-to-throw enigmas I've ever seen. It defies categorization, but works in a ton of different situations and is a blast to throw. Another home-run from Roto Grip - go out and get yours today!

The MVP is a newly designed take on the older tried and true Wrecker in the HP2 line of balls from Roto Grip. The MVP has a new core called Neutron NXT which is derived from the Wrecker core of yester-year. The NXT version has a rg of 2.55 and a diff of 0.040, in 15lbs. The hybrid cover called VTC-H19 on the MVP comes factory polished to 1500 and is orange pearl with blue solid.

To be completely honest, I wasn’t originally going to drill an MVP. I didn’t have the greatest success with two of the three Wrecker balls (I did like the pearl version called Wreck-Em). Once I saw that there was going to be a pearl MVP coming out, I thought I would go ahead and drill the MVP that was sitting on my shelf for a couple of months. I used the same layout I have on a Hy-Road, 4.5” pin with a 2” pin buffer. I’m really glad I decided to go ahead and drill the MVP. The MVP reminds me of the Storm Rocket. The shape it makes on the lane, as well as the color combination brings me back a few years. The Rocket was a favorite of mine, and a ball that I could use on a multitude of pattern shapes ranging in the upper medium-light to medium heavy volumed conditions, which is really where most patterns that are used fall in between. The MVP is a versatile ball. I have put some surface on it with a 2000 abralon pad to get it to roll earlier for the medium-heavy side; while being in the factory finish, it is more suited for medium conditions, and with a coat of Storm xtra-shine, can be used on those medium-light volume patterns. The MVP has a controllable shape going through the lane. It gets through the fronts easily, and has a readable move downlane. It isn’t a hockey stick type shape, but isn’t real archy like a banana either. The MVP has a good compliment of change of direction and control, that falls in between those two very different hook shapes.

I’m really glad I decided to finally drill an MVP. My only disappointment is that I waited so long to drill it. If you are looking for a great medium condition ball that has versatility ,then the MVP is a reasonably priced ball that will fit that bill.
