The Hot Cell is the strongest urethane ball Storm or Roto Grip have ever made.  It features a strong solid urethane cover and a strong asym core that was used in the Cell series.  This thing picks up very early and continues through the pins very well.  My Pitch Black would sometimes have a hard time getting corners out, but the Hot Cell is a great fix for that.  I would say the Hot Cell is 4-5 boards stronger than the Pitch Black.  I get a urethane reaction to the pocket, but asymmetrical ball pin action!  For me the Hot Cell is the perfect upgrade from the Pitch Black!

This was an interesting ball to say the least; a strong asymmetrical urethane bowling ball. The ball features the famous nucleus core from the cell lines and is finished at a strong 1000 grit finish. Normally, I do not throw urethane although I do believe this ball fills a gap for me in certain situations and will provide other bowlers options, as well, in given situations.

I tested this ball on a THS (Typical House Shot) and played a few different angles. For me as a tweener and not a high rev guy I did not have much success trying to open my angles up. I did, however, as one would expect, able to play pretty straighter and tighter lines successfully with this ball. The best look I received was standing around board 12 and going up 7 at the arrows. When I constantly hit this line I had that nice smooth ball motion one would expect from urethane. Also, the ball hit well for urethane. I kicked out a few pesky corner pins and was able to shoot messengers across the lane with this ball. This should mitigate some of the concerns bowlers have with urethane in that they note the urethane covers do not hit as hard as reactive bowling balls.

What I am looking forward to is trying this ball out on the shorter sport oil conditions and seeing my success on it. I just recently had a tournament where I was bowling on 34' Stockholm and this would have been the ball I would have gone to when I needed to play tighter up the lane lines that require predictability.  This is where this ball will fit for me.

The first time I got to throw this ball, I took it and my Pitch Black. The center that I practiced on is a 39' medium volume house shot.
 I got lined up with the Pitch Black and then went to the Hot Cell. I had it in my mind that it would be stronger but wasn't sure how much. So the first shot I moved three boards left with my feet and used the same target. Well three was not enough. So I then moved three more left with my feet and moved my eyes in as well, and this shot went four pin high. So moved two more left and that when the WOW came back into play. I am not a high rev player, but this ball really turns up. As much motion and flare the Hot Cell is really continuous through the pins. It's really surprising to me that it is a urethane cover. As the lanes dried out I could keep moving left and the Hot Cell kept recovering. I have seen other staffers that are straighter players, that can make a home playing up the boards. I believe this ball would benefit any league bowler and every tournament bowler. Great job Roto Grip.

The all new Roto Grip Hot Cell is the Strongest Urethane ball ever produced. Only one way to describe this release: Game Changer.
The Pitch Black from Storm was the best performing Urethane ball on the market, but it still had the usual limitations of a Urethane ball. It is great on short oil or for playing up the friction but on more volume or when you really had to open the lane up it's not strong enough to create angle back into the pins. The Hot Cell changes that.
The solid Urethane cover on the Hot Cell comes out of the box at 1000. You get the trademark smooth reaction, but on Steroids. Inside the ball they placed the now Legendary Nucleus core that made the Cell line the benchmark of High Performance. The result is possibly the most versatile ball on the market.
My first experience with the Hot Cell was on a lower volume 39 foot house shot. I stood where I would with my Pitch Black and watching it go Dead Left. What really surprised me though was that while it read the lane the way you would want a Urethane ball to, it continued so much stronger downlane. I moved left gradually, watching the reaction of the ball as I moved. I kept waiting for it to be far enough left and for the ball to start slowing down as is customary for Urethane balls. I ended up in the Zone I could have expected with a HP4 release. Something very interesting though, I would never have chosen another HP4 ball on this particular condition. The excessive amount of back-end made most of them too strong. The Hot Cell performed wonderfully. It was strong enough to move where I wanted, but smooth enough to slow down the backend, while still going through the pins. I continued moving left and ran out of lane before I ran out of hook.
The next test was done on a very high volume house shot. The surface is low friction and they use Ice lane conditioner. The pattern is very blended which generally shuts down your angles with even the highest performance balls. I use this condition to test alot of balls. It can make some very aggressive balls look tame. I wouldn't normally choose a Urethane ball on this particular condition as I am able to play so straight with High Performance reactives.
The Hot Cell again was enough ball. It strong smooth reaction worked very well in the high volume pattern. Even moving left it looked good on the fresh condition. I needed to keep the ball in and not give the pocket away but seeing a Urethane ball react that way playing left to right was mind blowing. The Cover keeps it in play on shorter patterns and the core keeps it in play on higher volume and longer patterns. I foresee this ball being amazing on sport patterns and for higher rev players.
Everyone should have this ball in their arsenal. Nothing else on the market touches the versatility of this ball.

What I like: Did not read early like any other all urethane balls made from Roto Grip or Storm before. It took on the fresh lane conditions quite well and hits super, super hard. Flare is HUGH on it, and really rolls like a weak reactive, but has the hitting power of a mile long freight train. Handle the breakdown even better, never relented throughout practice, recording, or league. At one point several league bowlers gathered behind my pair because they thought I was using some new “test” ball, and then stayed to watch the striking show. On shorter and grittier surfaces or 2nd shift league, this ball will be your main piece for years to come. High Performance, High Striking Power, and Super Durable…

RotoGrip’s answer to the rebirth in urethane is the Hot Cell.  The Hot Cell is in the HP4 series of bowling balls.  The Hot Cell has a strong urethane shell called Radioactive that surrounds one of the strongest cores…  The Nucleus Core!  This combination generates huge flare potential and heavy backend roll thru the pins.  The layout that I used on the Hot Cell is pin below the ring finger with the cg kick out and down with a hole at 6 inches.  My coordinates are 5 5/8 over and ¾ up for my axis point, my rev rate is around 300, ball speed medium (approx. 15mph) and I am right handed.  I was lucky enough to throw the Hot Cell and the Pitch Black on several different short patterns and house conditions.  The first pattern was the first cheetah where the outside was wide open.  The Pitch Black allowed me to play straighter thru the heads and keep the ball in front of me.  The Hot Cell was about an arrow stronger and actually generated some recovery for me if I missed right.  When carry down happened the Hot Cell was still going through the pins with authority.  However, the Pitch Black was just not stronger enough and I had to be perfect to strike.  I also threw both on a 34ft Kegel pattern and a typical house condition.  The characteristics were the same and I am not going to be redundant.  The Hot Cell is a monster compared to any other urethane bowling ball.  Urethane is never my first choice but the Hot Cell is not your typical urethane bowling ball. 

The Hot Cell is an asymmetrical bowling ball that will turn heads because of the color and how hard it goes through the pins!

   The new ball in the RG in HP4 line is the Hot Cell.  It uses new Radioactive solid urethane coverstock, with the popular Nucleus core that was in the Cell series. I drilled mine 4 x 5 x 3  or 60 x4 x 55.
I have drilled the Storm Pitch Blue and Pitch Black, the Hot Cell is at least 5-6 boards stronger.  As with the Asymmetrical core it produces a large amount of flare.  I like to say that the Hot Cell is a great choice for bowlers that have less than 500 RPM rev rates.  As the Hot Cell can handle the puddle in the middle better and give you strong midlane hook.  I am actually able to get left of the dry a little where the pitch series I had to stay on top of the dry.  The Hot Cell is a game changer in urethane market today.

This ball is fierce on the right condition.     It has the typical urethane cover coupled with a strong asymmetrical core. The cover does what a normal urethane ball does but what makes this ball so special is the core. The Cell core is a proven winner. When it hits the pins  it’s like your throwing a reactive ball. Seeing pins flying around everywhere is awesome. this ball is still condition dependent, so it’s not something you can use on ths very often. After drilling two Pitch Black’s and using them on several different patterns, I was excited to see an asymmetrical core in a Urethane ball to create more flare and more motion down lane.  The Roto Grip Hot Cell gives us the famous Nucleus core found in the Cell line with a solid Urethane Cover that flares a ton!

I’ve drilled one so far and have been able to use it on multiple patterns.  I drilled it with the pin above my bridge and CG just to the right of my thumb.  This maps out as 5 x 4.5 x 70.  I didn’t change the surface at all but as any urethane, you have to continue to put surface on the cover as the oil soaks it up quickly.  This gives me a Pitch Black type motion, but certainly gives me more motion down lane.  I’ve mainly used it on flatter and shorter patterns.

If you need a new Urethane ball that continues down line, similar to reactive, a Hot Cell is a perfect match!

The Hot Cell is a urethane ball I’ve been waiting for and its finally here. The Hot Cell is the strongest urethane ball Storm or Roto Grip have ever made. It has a strong solid urethane cover with a strong asymmetrical core that was used in the old Cell series bowling balls. At times, my Pitch Black would sometimes have a hard time getting corners out, but the Hot Cell is a great fix for that. It is much stronger than the Pitch Black with that smooth urethane roll still. This ball is a game changer in the urethane world!

The Hot Cell is the latest addition to the HP4 line and is a fresh and bold take on urethane.  The cover is 100% pure urethane, and the core is the same original Nucleus core that was used in the Cell line.  The result is a urethane reaction elevated.  One feature of older urethane was also cores with a low differential that did not flare, meaning that the ball continued to roll over the same oil track all the way down the lane.  The strength of the Nucleus core causes the Hot Cell to roll and rev unlike other urethane balls, and the flare the core causes exposes a fresh surface of ball to the lane on every rotation which increases traction but also delivers the key benefit of reducing backend carrydown, which improves consistency at the breakpoint substantially over other urethane options that do not flare and as a result tend to cause a significant amount of carrydown.  When you pair that with the pure urethane cover, you get a ball that is the type of reaction and amount of hook that people look for in a urethane ball while significantly reducing or possibly eliminating the negative aspects.

The Hot Cell is the latest in the world of urethane bowling balls. It combines the smooth and controllable urethane shape with the power of one of the most popular Roto Grip cores to date in the Nucleus core from the Cell series.

What the Hot cell does more than anything else is FLARE! The problem that some have with most urethane balls is that the lack of flare creates too much carrydown and not enough power through the pins. The Hot Cell changes all of that. You can now better control the flare and shape because of the asymmetric core. Urethane isn’t just for super high-rev players anymore!

The Hot Cell is noticeably stronger through the pins for me without sacrificing the benefit of using urethane.

The Roto Grip Hot Cell is Roto Grips new Urethane ball.  The Hot Cell is in the HP4 line and contains the Nucleus core which was found in the Cell Line.  The ball is finished at 1000 with a Urethane Cover.  This ball for me is very different from other balls that I’ve drilled.  I drilled mine with pin above the bridge and mass bias to the right of my thumb.  This ball for a urethane hooks quite a bit and hits real hard thanks to the very strong core.  The urethane still allowed me to stay straighter on broken down and shorter patterns but it still has the hook potential to recover if you miss right or left.  Unlike most Urethanes I’ve thrown, the Hot cell can handle oil patterns ranging from light oil to medium heavy.  It all depends on what angle you want to play.  The Hot Cell gives you an array of options and is a must have in everyone’s ball bag.
