This new ball is incredible.  Roto Grip has combined the Ultimate Vision coverstock with the Helios II core to produce a higher RG (2.53) and a low differential (.42).  On top of all that, the ball looks great both sitting on the rack and going down the lane.

From a consumer standpoint this ball is the best there is.  The ball is in the mid level performance group but out-performs most if not all balls in the "higher" performance areas.  

This ball has been in the hands of a few Roto Grip staff members and the results have been INCREDIBLE.  I shot 300 the first game with the ball on my way to a 758 series (I carry a 212 avg.)  Kelly O'Driscoll out of SLC, UT shot 2 300's in his first six games with the ball on back to back nights.  He had 55 out of a possible 72 stikes (76% strike percentage) on 2 different houses with different oil patterns. Chuck Groat drilled the ball and didn't practice with it before he shot 760 in his first set with the ball.  

We also drilled a ball for a non-staff member with a 182 league avg who was throwing a ball that was 8 yrs old and not drilled properly.  He wasn't used to a ball that had backend like this one does.  He shot 170 his first game but once he got used to the reaction he was off to the races.  He shot 225 and 218 his last 2 games and is so excited to bowl.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 1 oz, 2.98 top weight, 2.25 inch pin.

This is a great looking orb.  It will get the pro shop customer’s attention while on display.

The Illusion was drilled using the dual angle drilling method.  I was looking for good length and a strong move down lane.  The layout used was a 5 inch pin to PAP distance with a 60 degree drill angle and a 30 degree VAL angle.  This placed the pin above the ring finger about 1 ½  inches and the non-marked mass bias just below and about 1 ½  inches to the right of the grip center line.  The CG ended up one inch under and to the right of the ring finger but no extra hole was needed.  The cover was left in OOB condition.

The Illusion is very clean through the fronts.  It did not exhibit any lope even with the larger RG value of the new Helios II core.  The move in the backend was very strong and has great hit and carry.  The OOB cover (2000 polished) can be a little “squirty” on longer or heavier volume patterns.  The Illusion is not the best choice in Roto Grip’s great lineup for those patterns.

The Illusion is cleaner and longer through the fronts and stronger in the backend than the Horizon pearl.  Use it on lighter medium, shorter medium or when the heads get chopped up and you won’t be disappointed.

The newest introduction into the high performance line of balls from Roto Grip is the Illusion.  Its got a 2000 factory polished finish with a Pearlized reactive coverstock.  

Mine was a 15lb 3oz with 2.75 oz top weight.  I drilled mine with the Dual Angle Drilling method (D.A.D.)with the first angle at 70degrees which is the angle from the CG to the pin to my positive axis point.(5 3/4 X 5/8 up) and the 2nd angle was 35degrees which is the angle from the pin to my PAP to the Vertical Axis Line (VAL)  If your pro shop isn't familiar with the D.A.D. method, tell him to keep an eye out for articles on it in the current bowling magazines, as they go further into detail.  

First of all, the ball looks great!  The color combination along with the factory finish with the yellow lettering in the logos looks awesome.  There aren't too many balls out there that even come close to looking this good.  And looks arent all this bad boy has.  Right out of the box, this ball was clean through the heads, and it had great read in the mids.  This layout really let the ball rev up nice in the midlane. Once the ball cought the drier part of the lanes, the backend was tremendous!  I couldn't believe how much the ball snapped off the dry.  

The best part of it all was the hitting power.  No matter what angle i attacked the pocket, it seemed like this ball didn't care and it struck ball after ball.  Light mixers, dead flush to high hits, the pins didnt stand a chance.  I normally stand with my left foot on 30 and lay the ball down from 24 to 10 and the ball has no problem recovering.  Playing up 10 works really well, but you have to have enough units of oil on the lane to keep it from diving too early.

 All in all, this ball is a great addition to my arsenal.  It fits in well on every oil condition from medium/drier to medium/heavy oil conditions.  I'm gonna try it next on a couple of PBA patterns and i'm sure it will work just as well.  

Kudos to the Roto Grip staff on putting together one well rounded weapon.

Illusion- 45 degree, 4 inch, 20 degree.

I wanted this ball to have a strong-late mid-lane move with a very fast transition off the dry. I was not disappointed.  This ball is very appealing in looks and movement.  Doesn't matter if I am playing the big wheel or going straighter, the ball hits like a truck.

If you are looking for a ball to have alot of backend movement, look no further than the Illusion.

Drilled 4x4 pin next to ring finger x hole on Val but down 1"

Box Finish

Bowled 4 games on a house shot wiht the remnant of the scorpion pattern left over from the night before.  953 for 4 games Great revovery, awesome hit.  Clears the fronts like my Neptune (which I started in practice with) but with a lot more move off of the break point. My only misses were when I got it too wide and hit the carrydown from the previous nights Scorpion shot.  Great carry and it looks cool going down the lane.

THS League - Easy length with with a great move down lane.  This cover and core combo allowed me to miss in and still have enough grunt on the back to carry the corners.  When I missed out it would arc nicely back. Carry was no problem thi sball reminded me of the Silver Streak in the fact that there always seemed to be a scout coming across.  The pins stayed low which made light hits a lot of fun to watch.  

I next plan to take off the box finish and see what it does.  I will post my results.

Drilled up my first of many Illusions last night.  Came 3" pin, drilled pin under ring, 5" from pap, 55 degree layout, so the CG ended up about an inch above my thumb.  Low top weight to start so I put a small weight hole 4 1/2" over on a line from my center of grip between my midline and the CG.  After I broke the shell in all I can say is why has RG hidden this pearl version of the Epic coverstock for so long??  This ball is so readable and the hit is superb.  I've seen the video on Buddies how Chris drilled his and the length and backend are great, I'll probably drill on like that eventually, but I wanted this one to pick up a little earlier for the fresh plus to handle carrydown as well.  I have too many pearl, pin over balls and recently have found pin under drillings to work good for me.  Right out of the gates, shot 750 with it last night.  If I got it a little wide, it read and snapped to the hole but if I happened to miss inside, it held pocket and the carry is awesome.  Only on flat hits did I leave a ring 10.  First impressions, this is what I thought the Saga was going to be and that was not the case.  I see how much stronger this ball is compared to the original Horizon, and the Mystic in my case as well.  I see this being a very well used ball form me.  I will definitely get another one, or two.  Once again, Roger and the guys come through for us loyal Kingdom members again.

The new Illusion uses the Helios II core and the Ultimate Vision Pearl reactive coverstock producing a med Rg of 2.54 and med differential (.041). This is the ball to fill in your arsenal between the Venus/Neptune line and the Odyssey/Quest.

I drilled my first Illusion using a 60 degree layout, pin/PAP 5", pin 3" above the fingers, slightly right of grip line, with a small hole 4 1/2" inside my pap. This cover is clean through the fronts and strong off the break, producing strong pin hit. The ball did squirt off the oil at the end of the wet/dry house pattern if I missed inside a little. However, the ball did not over react off the dry if I sent it wide right. This is a great replacement ball for the the Black Silverstreak, a medium/low rg with a medium differential.
My second Illusion I drilled with a label drilling a 4 1/2" pin/PAP under my ring finger, I placed the cg in the thumb negative quadrant, approximate 2" above the thumb, no hole. I removed the shine and kept the 2000 abralon surface. Using it for the first time on a PBA experience, 35' Cheetah pattern, I was able to stand left and get the ball to "bounce" off the gutter at the breakpoint to start and as the oil moved down, I moved right and played a straighter line of 8 to 5. Again, if the ball touched the oil line to early it squirted and hit flat.
The ball was designed for med/light patterns and fits that bill. Too much oil down lane and this ball will squirt. Overall, a great replacement for the Silver Streaks and a great fill in ball between the Horizons and Odyssey/Quest.

Roto Grip has made some suttle changes to the mid performance line.  The ball is in the mid line category but will perform against any of the high performance line.  

By increasing the RG on the Helios core and adding the Ultimate Vision pearl reactive coverstock reserved for the performance line.  Roto Grip has created a new benchmark in bowling. The results of these changes give the Illusion a little more versatility on the lanes and why it's now the first ball out of the bag.  

It was designed to overwhelm the house shot and it does.  Very smooth down the lane as with all RG balls using the Ultimate Vision coverstock.  Nice controllable move off the spot.  If you have carry down adjust the surface for grip in the middle.  The red/blue cover is also very appeasing to the eye, nice looking down the lane and cheap on the wallet.  

I'm really impressed with the success I've had with the Illusion.  2 300's the first 2 times out with it, and a 290 2 weeks later in the city tourney.  The carry is incredible.

When I first drilled my Illusion, I couldn't really use it. I drilled it with the new dual angle layout, the first angle is 30 degrees with a 4" pin from my PAP, the second angle is 70 degrees. I was hoping that would give me a smooth reaction, but the box finish the ball was just a little skid flippy for me. So, I took the polish off and put 4000 abralon on it. That made a huge difference for me. The ball is much smoother off the break point now. I can use the ball more often now.

I really love this ball. This is exactly what Roto was missing- It clears the fronts clean, reads the middle superbly, strong, but not snappy off the spot and it continues great. This thing hits like a truck AND keeps the pins low, which is essential to carry in today's game. This ball fits into a wide variety of bowlers arsenals and has fantastic shelf appeal. This one really is a must have and is right there with the Mystic as the first ball(s) out of my bag. Also, it performs more like other companies' high end bowling balls but comes in at a mid range price- so it is easier on the pocket book. Roto really hit a home run on this release.

I've had this ball for a week now and threw it on a couple different conditions with a couple different surfaces and the best for me is 4000 abralon it made the ball much more predictable at the breakpoint. the best thing i can say about this ball is its very smooth. it clears the head easily and when it gets to the dry it makes a smooth yet agressive roll to the pocket, it hit better then the mystic and its smoother then the epic line they did very good job putting the ball together. the ball is very good at handling oil and it doesn't seem to overreact as much as i expected on the drier patterns

I got this ball about a week ago and all i can say is WOW!  This ball goes decently long and has a predictable snap at the end.  My first series with the ball was a 641!! Most of the time when i get a new ball i tend to throw a much much lower first series.  Although this ball is great it also has its declines, it is very hard to use on a dry lane...very hard.  you cannot get it to go outside unless you really lob it, but all around i can say this is a medium-heavy oil ball.

On my proshop's recommendation I purchased an Illusion (15lbs) as my first "real" bowling ball.  I am 5 months into my first league and my high league series to date was 392.  My first league series with the Illusion was a 468 and my next was my very first 500+ series ever.  I love the pin reaction the Illusion delivers.  And I only need minor adjustments as the oil moves down the lane.  I really appreciate my pro's advice on this great ball.
