- Weight Block: Nucleus II in 14 – 16lbs Modified Nucleus™ Core in 12, 13lbs.
- Factory Finish: 2000 Abralon
- Track Flare Potential: 7"+ (High)
- RG Average: 2.52 (Medium Low) on a scale of 2.43-2.8 Very low-High Break Point
- RG Differential: .048 (Medium) on a scale of .000-.080 Low-High Flare
- Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
- Description: The success of the Cell series continues to grow, and so does the technology involved the the newest edition. The signature touch to the line has been its continuous motion and versatility. This stems from the Nucleus core and its unique shape. This asymmetrical part maintains its dynamic integrity and differential value after drilling better than any other ball on the market. Our intent was to utilize this same premise in the newly designed Nucleus II core. We have strategically removed mass along the axes of the core to increase the intermediate differential or mass bias strength. This translates into a quicker revving part along with increased motion potential down the lane. The final touch is the utilization of the Cytoplasmic XL solid reactive coverstock. This second generation coverstock has an extreme amount of surface topography (Ra value). This means more friction from foul line through the pin deck. The Evolution of Technology has Mutated!

The Mutant Cell is a good replacement to the Cell and Rogue Cell. The colorful red, black and yellow shell makes seeing your roll easier. I drilled my Mutant 5x3(pin 5" from PAP, mass bias 3" from PAP, cg in center of grip).
The mid lane reaction is a little earlier than the Rogue Cell and Cell and the backend is also a little stronger than its predesessors. It also seems to have more recovery than the other cells.

First one Box Surface no weight hole Pin at 12 o'clock to my finger holes 5.75 inches to my PAP.  CG and MB in line with the MB next to my thumb.   Great for outside line on fresh pattern and can easily move left.  Even with the surface, this ball really maintains its backend move.  Very sharp.

Second one, brought to polish then down again with a 4000 abralon surface.  I have found that bring up to a polish and then back down is significantly different than going from 2000 just up to a 4000 surface.  Putting the polish on first helps get the ball down the lane a little further.  Pin is 4.125 inches away from PAP with the CG and MB in line.  MB is 1 inch right of the thumb and 1/4 inch down with small weight hole 2.25 inches deep lower thumb quadrant 2 inches right of the thumb hole using a 23/32th bit.  Surface is and drilling make this a great all around ball on most patterns.  When this ball begins to read friction, LOOK OUT!!!  revs up and makes a hard move to the left as longs as friction allows and does not quit.  Probably one of the hardest hitting balls I have ever thrown.  Actually left a 7 - 9 - 10 the first night I threw it.  WOW!!!!

Third one was drilled to be smoother and still maintain a strong backend arc.  High gloss surface allows the ball to snap a little more on the back and if you take the surface down it definately gets smoother but you need to find oil to throw it no matter what.  Allows me to keep my feet further right and after a little bounce is created I can inch left and throw to the dryer boards.    Pin is 2 and 7/8th inces from PAP with the CG 3/8 inches kicked left from the line with the MB.  MB placement is 1.5 inches directly right of the thumb hole.  Weight hole is 2.5 inches deep using a 7/8th bit directly on my PAP to help delay the reaction down lane and smooth it out.

Pin to PAP: 5”
Drill Angle: 45 degrees
Extra Hole: On val at midline

Overall a much snappier version of the Cell…  This is a ball I can throw deep into the pattern with a great recovery.

Pin carry is phenomenal. I noticed many messengers coming back across the deck whether there were pins still standing or not. The extra torque provided by the tweaked weight block creates the largest separation on my flare rings of all the Cell series.

On a THS I could keep moving in as far as I wanted and the Mutant keeps on coming back to the pocket.

On the PBA Shark pattern I found easy length but the bonus was the recovery and drive through the pins.  I could comfortable work the pattern.
I can’t wait to throw this on the Scorpion pattern.

Sorry i dont know a lot about drilling specifics but my pro shop that I go to---Lightning Strikes in Orlando's Colonial lanes---knows my game very well and drilled this monster for me tonight.

I have been throwing strictly Ebonite for about 12 years and was actually a little disappointed with the magic line of balls so I decided to give roto-grip a one time try.  Boy am I glad I did!

Ball wasn't ready for first game of league and I was struggling with carry first game---ball was ready by 10th frame and I had already opened in 9th so I said ok time to experiment---free wheeled it right about 23 miles an hr and my eyes pulled a Roger Rabbit

This ball is a monster---I have above average speed and not a whole lot of revs but extremely heavy roll---went 256 242 last games with 2 opens---ball hit like it would carry 20 pins---whenever i started to go touch heavy and trip four pins i would just open shoulders more and freewheel more!  This ball is amazing!!

Definitely may consider giving Roto Grip another try

16lbs
PAP  5  1/4  x  1  3/8 up
High Speed
Med- High Revs

Driling: 5" pin to PAP
         5" pin to MB
         3" pin buffer

The Mutant Cell gives me a great look on heavier fresh patterns and still some strong pop on the backend. This ball is also extremely versatile as you can play a little deeper on some volume of oil and also take a little off the ball and it can allow you to square up and go more direct up the lane which is very rare that you can find a ball with that kind of versatility. This ball will shine on Heavier pattern House shots and also Heavier pattern Sport shots (Scorpion, Shark as seen this past weekend with Jack Jurek)

SURFACE CHANGES:  I have tried this ball with the original box finish 2000 ABRALON, the ball reads the fronts and mid-lane great with a strong motion to the pocket. I also rolled this ball with 1000 ABRALON. This is great for fresh shots with ALOT of volume (ex. Scorpion - as seen in the video on (www.videobalreviews.com). This will get the ball reading very early with a smooth arcing motion on the backend. Finally I went with 4000 ABRALON with this I can get the ball through the heads with ease and has a very strong backend movement. This would work best on 2nd shift shots and carrydown.

15lb
4x4 1 1.5 inch pin buffer
This ball works amazing on any conditions you want it for a lighter oil throw a bit of polish on it and it still transitions fantastically! I was almost hesitant to buy this cause my Original Cell i could never get a true read out of it but this modified core leaves no pins standing! Drive through the pocket 10 folds right now because i am only throwing this on house shots i have it at 2000 abralon and snake oil on it. Over all just a phenomenal ball put out by Roto. I love how Roto has limited their line up too its not flooding the market like some companies keep up the good work Roto

Mutant Cell

Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
Storms second generation  cover stock technology promotes continuous motion and versatility.
This stems from the Nucleus core and its unique shape.
T-Asymmetrical weight block maintains its dynamic integrity and differential value after drilling better than most balls on the market.
The removal of the mass along the axes of the core increased the intermediate differential and -or mass bias strength.
Which is translated into a quicker revving
Also  increased motion potential down the lane.
The final touch is the utilization of the Cytoplasmic XL solid reactive cover stock.
Which means more friction at the right spots.
foul line through the pin deck.
Without early hook to the midline & continuous motion and versatility
The Mutant Cell also gives  a great look on heavy  fresh patterns and still maintain strong  backend kick
on the backend.
The Mutant is extremely versatile :
Meaning  playing a deeper on most oil Patterns,
Take a little off the ball and it can allow you to square up and go more direct up
the lane which is very rare this is versatility
Without  minimal hitting power losted.by most Balls
The Mutant  performance will shine on Heavier  House Oil Patterns
The Mutant  is a great addition to your Roto Grip arsenal..

Drilling instruction,
The mutant is at it best using Asymmetrical drilling Patterns
Such as Storm drill instructions

Revs:  Low
Speed: Med-High
AVG:   222 on easy house shot
Ball:  15 lb Mutant Cell
Drilling: 3 3/8" Pin to PAP w/balance hole

I bought this ball to replace a Virtual Gravity. The only difference between this ball and the Virtual Gravity I had is the balance hole was put in a less "dynamic" position, othwerwise the drilling was the same and the surface (2000 abralon) was the same as I had with the VG. On a fresh house shot my right foot was on the same mark (3 boards right of the center dot) and I was throwing between the first and second arrow. I didn't have to move for the first two games (222, 260), the last game the lanes began to dry up a bit and I didn't move soon enough (199). 681 series with the Mutant cell my first night back after not bowling for over a month, not bad.

At 2000 abralon the ball has a smooth reaction and a heavy roll, maybe even a little less backend than the VG. The carry however is excellent and while it might not come booming back to the pocket for me on a miss right like a hockey stick, it will carry the light hits extremely well. When I missed left and got it more in the oil, it held line and gave me that little turn at the end into the pocket and carried. I encountered a few 10 pins with it when I hung up and came around the side a little bit and didn't stay up the back and roll it. All in all it is a great ball for someone like me with lower revs and a speed dominant style as long as I roll it right. I don't think I will miss my Virtual Gravity with this beast in my bag.

Revs: Low
Speed: Med-High
AVG: 153 and on the move house shot
Ball: 14 lb Mutant Cell

Just returned to league bowling after 20 year layoff. I have some decent equipment for med to med light oil, but the house I am bowling my league in lay it down heavy 40' house shot. Talked to a pro shop guy about my struggle and he suggested the Mutant cell.

Shot a 258 right out of the box then 222-219 OK beginners luck. Not the case, last week went 220-199-199 opened the 9th second and third game by over throwing the 10 pin.

I swear I can miss my mark by 3 boards left or right and this thing hunts for the pocket afraid they will make it illegal its that good! I know its 3" pin, pin directly right of ring finger with balance hole.

My arsenal, Mutant cell, Storm Furious (Drilled stacked),Storm Fast, Storm Tropical (Spare ball)

Mutant Cell another great release from Roto Grip.Just hear to tell you all on how great this ball is on the lanes. The new mutant cell gives bowlers a little bit more edge on those longer and wetter lane conditions that bowlers have trouble with finding the right ball to use.The mutant cell gives the bowler a little bit more hook on the backend with this new core and coverstock still thow rolls early as well, but with balls being designed today were getting a litte bit more pop off the corner for longer patterns,as we say litte bit more area to miss.my self being a roto staffer its great all the new prouducts that roto comes out with is giving me a different look out that on the lanes everytime i switch to use another ball in that line up,but the mutant cell in by far one of the strongest balls that i have ever used and probably the strongest balls roto grip has ever made in there product line.my first mutant cell i drilled 5x3 pin below middle finger with the mass bias right on my pap, with a extra balance hole being placed as well.(box finish 2000 abaron) this ball with this layout gives me early roll but on those fresh pattern and alot of backend down lane like kick side ways backend.second mutant cell got in layed out a little different, this one is 6x4 with pin above middle finger but a inch to the left on most lable for a lefty and mass bias being in the strong position to my pap.and also left on 4000 frest abaron for about 2 hourse on haus machine(crand to 30 mins a shot on hause machine for about 4 times.what i was doing for this ball and layout is i wanted something i can use when like a house shot pattern or a broken down sport shot wanted a ball that would clean threw the front really well but i didnt want to use polis reason for that i just find sometimes polish makes the ball a little skidy to much some times and kind of makes the ball reaction a little over under. So by putting it on the 4000 abaron pad is really shined the cover up but made it very tacky surface.so with this ball i get very very clean ball reaction threw the burnt heads but down laned even with carry down this ball give me a very strong arcing sharp break point in the backend of the lane.So haveing to drill to mutants with complete different drilling and surfaces you can cover many lane condition with two mutant cells. So for those bowlers out there looking for a awsome highend ball in the bag for heavyer lane conditons drill a mutant cell and let the mutant take over for ya.

I received my Mutant Cell from Monmouth University’s Roto Grip sponsorship. The first time I threw this ball, I knew I made a great choice. I got my mutant drilled 5” from my PAP below my middle finger. I was looking for a ball that drives strong through the heads and stores up all its energy for the backends. This ball does that and more.

My mutant cell rolls smoothly through the front of the lane and makes a strong controlled move on the backened. In addition, the mutant has very strong pin carry from several different angles, so no matter where you are forced to stand, the mutant cell will cover the whole lane if u need it to. It’s a great addition to my line-up and compliments the other balls I throw. Roto Grip is the King of them All!

Last night I used a Mutant Cell with the pin below the ring finger and no weight hole.
The lanes were Pro Anvil synthetics 40' in length (North Bowl).
I shot 212 the first game playing 17 board at the arrows out to 9 board. The next game shapped up well as I shot 265. Count in the 11 was why I shot the 265. Then I shot 245. By this game I was around 4th arrow at the arrows still out to about 10 board. Series for the night was 722. The inside line works well with the Mutant Cell.

Just got my new Mutant last Wednesday and all i can say is "WOW".  Haven't had a ball like this since the original Cell.  Ball hits like a truck and then some.  First nite outta box 247-264-257 (768) for a personal high for me.  Last nite shot 247-225-238 (710).  After 18 weeks in the league i was averaging 197 and have raised it to 202 just in two weeks.  I'm a Roto Grip fan for life.

My newest addition is a Mutant Cell with the following specs:
Layout: 40x 3 1/2x 60. PAP: 3 5/8 right and 1/16 up. Surface is box condition with a weight kicked towards the thumb below the midline. The ball was work quite well on two different local house shots, both contain a ton of volume, one is at 39 ft and the other is 41ft. This ball did not burn up in the heavy oil. Was able to play pretty deep and swing it a little. Did well the first two games on each match with proper adjustments. For the third game I got out another Mutant that produced a little more roll.

My other new addition to my arsenal was another Mutant Cell with these specs:
Layout: 30x 3 1/2x 60. PAP: 3 5/8 right and 1/16 up. Factory surface on the ball for this review. Weight hole pitched towards the thumb down by the mass bias mark. Bret at Bowlers Supply drilled this one to use when the other Mutant would start up a little too soon because of the lane being burned up in the area I would be playing. This layout produced more roll for me in later parts of a match. Really enjoy this new 1-2 punch of Mutant Cells.
