- Weight Block: Nucleus II in 14 – 16lbs Modified Nucleus™ Core in 12, 13lbs.
- Factory Finish: 2000 Abralon
- Track Flare Potential: 7"+ (High)
- RG Average: 2.52 (Medium Low) on a scale of 2.43-2.8 Very low-High Break Point
- RG Differential: .048 (Medium) on a scale of .000-.080 Low-High Flare
- Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
- Description: The success of the Cell series continues to grow, and so does the technology involved the the newest edition. The signature touch to the line has been its continuous motion and versatility. This stems from the Nucleus core and its unique shape. This asymmetrical part maintains its dynamic integrity and differential value after drilling better than any other ball on the market. Our intent was to utilize this same premise in the newly designed Nucleus II core. We have strategically removed mass along the axes of the core to increase the intermediate differential or mass bias strength. This translates into a quicker revving part along with increased motion potential down the lane. The final touch is the utilization of the Cytoplasmic XL solid reactive coverstock. This second generation coverstock has an extreme amount of surface topography (Ra value). This means more friction from foul line through the pin deck. The Evolution of Technology has Mutated!

Mutant Cell Review:
16lbs
PAP 5 1/4 x 1 3/8 up
High Speed
Med- High Revs

Driling: 5" pin to PAP
5" pin to MB
3" pin buffer

From my experience throwing both the Mutant and Original Cell, the mutant is about 5-7 boards stronger then the original Cell. The Mutant Cell gives me a great look on heavier fresh patterns and still some strong pop on the backend. This ball is also extremely versatile as you can play a little deeper on some volume of oil and also take a little off the ball and it can allow you to square up and go more direct up the lane which is very rare that you can find a ball with that kind of versatility.

SURFACE: I have tried this ball with the original box finish 2000 Abralon, the ball reads the fronts and mid-lane great with a strong motion to the pocket. I also rolled this ball with 1000 grit abralon. This is great for fresh shots with ALOT of volume (ex. Scorpion - as seen in the video). This will get the ball reading very early with a smooth arcing motion on the backend. Finally I went with 4000 abralon no polish with this I can get the ball through the heads with ease and has a very strong backend movement. This would work best on 2nd shift shots and carrydown.

With all that set I hope this helps, I will be glad to answer any questions concerning the the Mutant Cell. You can email me or message me on the site.

Here my latest information for my most recent Mutant Cell:
Serial number: 10CMA05H021
Layout: 35 x 4 1/2 x 45
PAP: 3 5/8 right 1/16 up.
Surface: out of box condition
No weight hole.
This ball was really strong through the mid lane and all the way to the pocket, did not hook up early at any point. This ball has a strong continuous hook. This Mutant for me covers for boards than anything else out there. I used it on a heavier volume 41ft 50ml flow THS, and a 39ft 40ml flow THS. It got around the corner so well on both conditions at the breakpoint. Hopefully a pearl version is not too far away.. (HINT TO THE RG BIG BOYS)

Drilled my Mutant using the 4 x 4 drilling with a 2 1/2" Pin Buffer. I'm a high track player with medium revs.  This is my first Roto-Grip ball.  I needed something to handle the heavier oil conditions at my house.  I left it at the OOB finish and it's got plenty of length, which surprised me being at 2000 grit.  This ball sends pins flying everywhere.  Great carry and am able to play around the track area without over-reacting.  So far, hasn't been an oil soaker or lost any reaction, but I've been cleaning it with Clean n' Dull after every set.  I know this was a problem with some of the other Cell's.  Thanks Roto-Grip!

I bought the Mutant Cell right after it came out to compliment the original Cell. I can't say enough good things about this ball when there is heavy oil. It hits with a wallop and scatters the pins, even when hitting them lightly. I am a 190 avg bowler and I have shot 762, 686, 642 and 686 in two different leagues, two different houses last 4 times of bowling. If I get the ball out too far, it still comes back into the pocket. When there is too much carry down or drying out, I switch to the original Cell to finish up which also hits with a wallop. I use to be a Columbia fan, now it's Roto Grip. Keep them comin'.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP at 65* PAP angle and 40* VAL angle. The pin ended up above my ring finger. I put a 7/8" 2" deep weight hole on my axis.

Surface: I left it in box finish.

Purpose: I wanted to fill a gap for a big hooker in my arsenal.

Lane condition observations: I have mainly thrown this on our house pattern both on the fresh and on broken down second shift conditions. The house pattern at our center does not hold up in the heads for very long, so this ended up being put away too often.

Final thoughts: I have not been on many slicker conditions lately, so this just caught dust on the pro shop floor. When I did get to use it, there was a strong read off the spot. I think I could adjust the surface up and polish and probably have a monster ball to throw on second shift. One of the kids on the high school team that I coach really had a need for something earlier, so this eneded up being given to him to keep. No grumbles about the ball, this layout/surface combo just didn't fit what I needed, so I discarded it.

I'm pretty wishy-washy on this one. I have a Virtual Gravity which I loved but was starting to lose it's reaction, so I bought this and put a strong layout on it in hopes it would roll up early and give a continuous non-snappy finish. It does not do that at all. In fact, it does not cut through heavy head oil at all, just skids. If I soften the speed to get it to flip it hits like do-do. I have had some success pointing this ball as long as there is enough head oil keep it from grabbing too early. Overall, not the versatile ball I hoped it would be.

Roto Grips latest solid oiler. Got this one for the wife. It is far to strong for THS in it's box condition. But in oil it comes alive. It has an early reaction, with a strong mid-lane, and a continuos motion through the pin deck. Does not seem to have a tendency to roll out. Excellent carry.

very strong ball. Tried to throw this at the stadium (usbc) but with a 2000/black magic surface, could not get it long enough to hit break point. Great ball on shark (20-10) BIG HOOK.
09/20/10 update: My league went to the "white" oil pattern. I pulled this ball out of my bag of tricks and proceeded to throw 10 flush for a 288. Thanks Tammy for the info in Reno, it obviously worked. Great ball, (shined up).

15mph tweener

4x4 box finish

Tried this ball on a demo day on the highway to hell pattern, the ball was not reacting that well,so went into the shop & put 600 grit with the track. the reaction swayed me enough to buy one

Laid out on the demo day Rico drilling

Back in home center warn wood lanes 44ft long oil pattern. County practice day

Box finish 2000Ab.
Ball went too long with a very late weak hit straight down 10

Changed to 1000Ab.
Same shot straight in the pocket but there seemed little room for error

Changed to 500Ab.
Had to move in to 15 out to 10, while the rest of the team were struggling, I made it look as if I was playing on a house pattern.

Generally not a great fan of going to such a low grit finish but if it works on the day, Do it!

I got this ball when i noticed how hard this ball hits the pocket and the radical flipping power this ball has in the backend.

Drilled the ball to get through the heads and try to keep the flipping nature of the ball. One thing i dont like about the ball is that it looks ugly to me. Sorry "Roto Grip," mines has just one big splotch of yellow on one half of the ball and the other side is black and there is barely any red in it at all.

This ball has a crazy flip/backend when i threw it. Even when i threw it into heavy oil. It hits like a train. And the weird thing about this ball is that for me it leaves 8 pins from time to time. Would start to string strike and then all of a sudden i would leave a solid 8 pin.

Great ball by "Roto Grip". If you want a ball that flips hard, Look no further. And still holds enough energy to the pocket to make the pins go flying. Not too eye appealing to some, but you know what they say, "Looks can be deceiving."

Mutant Cell #5
30 x 4 x 50 pin down and P3 hole, box condition

My specs: left hander, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

Roll, Roll, hook is the best way I can explain how the shape of the roll of this ball. The does not skid a bit, it rolls very firm down the lane than with a softer angle, hooks up very nicely on 41FT and 42FT house patterns and was able to play 3rd arrow most of the nights I practiced or roll in league. The very first night I used it, I roll a 300 in the2nd game and a 788 series. A key to this ball is keeping the oil wiped off of it. If the oil lingers on it, it tends to go a shade longer down the lane. Keep your equipment clean with Storm ball cleaners and Storm microfiber towels.

As a freshman bowler on the Wright State team, I purchased the Mutant Cell bowling ball for use on heavy oil conditions. I have been able to use this ball out of the gate in most tournaments.  I like the way it reacts on the heavily oiled lanes because it fits my down and in style.  As the season goes on, I'm sure I will be using this ball frequently.

Although I haven't thrown the Mutant Cell much yet, I have still thrown it enough to know how this ball will react and it has met my expectations so far.  The Mutant Cell is a ball that has a lot of back end and made for longer patterns.  The way my ball is drilled it will go a bit longer than the Rogue Cell but it has a more powerful hook on the end allowing it to have more power when hitting the pocket. This drilling has allowed me to use this ball on patterns when my Rogue Cell just isn't powering through the pocket

When you bowl for a college team, such as Wright State, you come across many different kinds of oil patterns.  I have a Rogue Cell and Nomad Pearl.  However, whenever I came across a longer oil pattern, I had trouble with the ball finishing strong in the pocket.  I got the Mutant Cell just for that purpose.  I don't use it that often, but it works very well on longer patterns.  I have it drilled so it rolls pretty far down the lane, but it has a stronger backend which helps it to also finish strong.  I like the Mutant Cell because it works well on patterns that my Rogue and Nomad do not.
