Likes: Used this in the PhoenixSenior Masters and was able to get inside everyone else with great recovery. The condition rewarded my end over end roll, and even when they were hooking a lot I didn't seem to get any burnout. I was the only guy who didn't leave a couple of blowout 7-10s. Reminds me of the original cell, but the stronger core should help as the box condition cover tames down

Please see my initial 12/22 review for the gut feelings about this ball. Finally got to see this ball in action on a condition that it is suited for. This ball did not disappoint! Threw a couple of paractice balls with my AZO Pure Tactics to get an oil volume read. When I realized how heavy the volume was I went straight to the Theory. A pure strike thrown on either lane, assured me that fireworks were about to start. I had taken my ball back down to 1000 grit abralon, hoping that I'd get a chance to put it to a true "oiler" test.

This ball glides thru the heads and handles the midlane steady and true. It gives a very consistent read of the mids and then, just as smoothly drives through the pindeck, with continuous power. When this ball hits the pins, there is never any doubt of whether it will be a strike or not.....it just destroys the rack! I'd love to say, "it hits like a truck" but it doesn't. It hits more like a diesel-powered train!! I love this ball's consistency, and I love the fact that the more carrydown it sees....the stronger it gets! That was what really surprised me. As other bowlers continually got 2-4-5 leaves, or full buckets because of carrydown, and their balls being unable to make the corner, this ball acutally picked up steam and seemed to get stronger! I hope my 754 set is indicative of what I'm talking about. I shot this last nite, and shot it with complete confidence due to the Theory. 207-247-300. Without a doubt, the guys over at Roto Grip have outdone themselves this time. This ball is the Cell times 3!!This ball is an absolute BEAST!

Likes: I love the aggression of the ball when it makes the turn to the pocket. It hits like a brickhouse.

Likes:I could tell you about all the amazing things the Roto Grip Theory can do but instead I am going to talk numbers. Before the Theory I had bowled 54 games in 2 leagues this season, knocked down 10,782 pins and was averaging 199.6. Since I started bowling with the Theory, in 24 games I have knocked down 5,391 pins and have averaged 224.6 with it, a whopping 25 pin improvement. The biggest difference is carry. It does need oil to get through the heads though. If you liked the Cell you will love the Theory.

Likes: I set this ball up to be the replacement for my Cell going with a layout 5x4 pin above the bridge with no weight hole. This drilling was weaker than both my Cell and Rogue Cell which are drilled stacked leverage but to my surprise it has 3 boards more than my Cell and 5 more than my Rogue. I absolutely love the reaction I was able to get from this ball. It is able to stay very clean through the heads even 6 games into an event and it keeps a surprisingly angular ball motion even with the very aggressive cover. I have also been surprised by how little oil it seems to absorb. The original Cell was pretty good about not absorbing oil but still when I came back for my next shot to wipe it off the oil would be mostly absorbed into the cover. The oil on my Theory seems to stay on the surface much more.

Dislikes: I only have a couple dislikes with this ball and they are honestly all trivial. The Theory continues what seems to be a trend of Roto high performance balls which after a couple games the surface starts to look really bad. I have found the Theory is a magnet for beltmarks and will show what looks like tracking on the surface but after a quick cleaning it looks as good as new. It also does seem to take and oil shine very quickly but again it does not affect the performance and as soon as you clean it, it is as good as new. Finally I know I am really splitting hairs, but I would have loved this ball to be different colors. It was on the rack next to a Cell Pearl yesterday and they look almost identical.

Lay Out: 4 3/4" from PAP at 60* PAP angle and 40* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 60/4.75/40. The pin ended up above my ring finger and there is a 7/8" weight hole down my axis point in the P3 position (2 1/2") drilled 2" deep.

Surface: I have left it at box finish which is 2000 abralon. I drilled it a month or so ago so the only surface change was to touch up the cover with a Saair abralon pad.

Purpose: I wanted to drill up a ball to duplicate the reaction that I had with an Invasion last year. I was able to use this Invasion when there was more volume in the front of the lane, but cleaner back ends. Looking at the numbers on the Theory and remembering how much control I had out of the original Cell, I took a chance on this one.

Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on our house shot and on a couple of sport/flatter patterns that have more volume/longer distance. On the house pattern, I have to get on top of the oil to have a chance for the ball to hold energy. If I get it out to the dry too early, it is puff tens which the Invasion I want to replace did also. The surface is strong enough that I have no chance right now to use it on our league shot unless I was to get on the one pair in our league which is fresh. On the longer sport/flat pattern is where this ball took charge. I was able to control it quite a bit and used it for a long time breaking down the pattern to try some shinier stuff out also. The reaction for me was controlled arc and very good pin carry.

Other Ball Comparisions: I also put a couple of other balls in play to compare it to. I pulled out a Prodigy and Mutant Cell Pearl (MCP) that I have in my bag to compare to. The Prodigy has a similar pin distance (4 3/4) with 4000 abralon. I also have the ball laid out like a 45* angle and a hole down. The MCP has the same pin-to-pap distance and the RG is in a strong position close to the drilling angle of the Theory. The MCP has 4000 abralon on the cover. The Prodigy was not even close as it was about 5 and 3 right and still might have been even weaker compared to the Theory. The MCP was closer as the backend on this ball is strong for me. Even so, it was still a 4 and 2 right and softer ball speed until the fronts opened up some.

Final Thoughts: The Theory is definitely a stronger ball in the front of the lane. Those that loved the original Cell and it's usefulness should see ball motion almost identical except maybe a slightly newer cover to handle today's oils. To me it was smooth off the spot compared to other stronger balls in the RG and Storm lines.

Such a strong ball. It feels like I’m cheating! Unfortunately, this ball puts my mutant cell to shame. Much cleaner through the front part of the lane, and VERY responsive in the back. This ball continues through the pin deck and it doesn’t quit!

If there’s any oil at all, this ball is it. I’m very confident on just keep moving left as soon as the lanes dry up. It never stops rolling. I would highly recommend this ball for bowlers with lower speed. Most bowlers with lower speed (like myself), have problems with really strong coverstocks because they burn up and never carry. As strong as this ball is, it’s pretty amazing how much energy it retains going down the lane.

THEORY #4 – 30 X 4 X 55 P2 HOLE-- OUT OF BOX CONDITION 11RTYC30G052

INTENDED TO REPLACE A MUTANT CELL THAT HAD OVER 300 GAMES WITH SIMILAR LAYOUT

TESTED ON THS, AND SOME KEGEL PATTERNS LIKE BROADWAY, TURNPIKE, DEAD MAN'S CURVE .

THIS BALL STARTED UP EARLY AND GOT INTO A ROLL RELATIVELY VERY EASY AND DID NOT CREATE A LOT OF OVER/UNDER EVEN ON FRESH CONDITION. THIS BALL HAD A VERY NICE PATH TO THE POCKET AND VERY EVEN AND SMOOTH. JUST WHAT I WANTED AND NEEDED.
